Orthodontic Treatment Of Class Ii Malocclusion With Single Maxillary Incisor, Chien-Cheng Chen, Yi-Horng Chen

Orthodontic treatment of a Class II malocclusion case with single maxillary central incisor was presented in the case report. The treatment plan consisted of removing one maxillary central incisor instead of premolars. Bilateral maxillary lateral incisors were mesialized for space closure and substitution for maxillary central incisors. The morphology of maxillary lateral incisors was modified to mimic the maxillary central incisors. After treatment, both occlusion and esthetics was improved, and the patient was satisfied with the results.

This case report described the management of congenital missing bilateral mandibular central incisors in a 16 years-old female patient who was diagnosed as Angle’s Class I molar malocclusion, canine Class II relationship by a treatment plan of orthodontic space regain. The options of fixed bridge, removable partial denture or dental implants to replace the missing teeth were well explained to the patient by prosthodontic consultation. This 22-year-old female presents with skeletal Class III malocclusion, complicated by anterior cross bite, deep bite, and congenital missing of bilateral mandibular second premolars. The treatment modality was fullmouth fixed edgewise appliances. A favorable result of ideal overbite and overjet and closure of bilateral spaces of missing teeth were achieved. The patient was satisfied the improvement of function and esthetics after treatment.

Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) and Fusobacterium nucleatum (F. nucleatum) are Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria possessing several virulence factors that make them potential pathogens associated with periodontal disease. Periodontal diseases are chronic inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity, including gingivitis and periodontitis. Periodontitis can lead to tooth loss and is considered one of the most prevalent diseases worldwide. P. gingivalis and F. nucleatum possess virulence factors that allow them to survive in hostile environments by selectively modulating the host's immune-inflammatory response, thereby creating major challenges to host cell survival. Streptococcus sanguinis, an abundant and benign inhabitant of the oral cavity, is an important etiologic agent of infective endocarditis, particularly in people with pre-disposing cardiac valvular damage. Although commonly isolated from patients with IE, little is known about the factors that make any particular S. sanguinis isolate more virulent than another or, indeed, whether significant differences in virulence exist among isolates. Interleukin (IL)-1β is a potent pro-inflammatory cytokine and therefore its production is tightly regulated: its secretion requires the assembly of a macromolecular protein complex, termed the inflammasome. Aberrant activation of the inflammasome has been linked to debilitating human diseases including chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Thus, there is a great interest in understanding how inflammasomes are regulated. The oral microbiome may be affected by patient medications, disease conditions and systemic disorders. Selenomonas noxia is an anaerobic, motile, non spore-forming, gram-negative rod that has been repeatedly associated with periodontal disease and other disorders, including obesity. Based upon the paucity of evidence regarding oral prevalence, the objective of was to evaluate S. noxia prevalence by sampling saliva from the oral cavity to screen for this pathogen.
