Combined Multi-Segmental Surgical-Orthodontic Treatment In Skeletal Class Iii With Facial Asymmetry And Gummy Smile: Two-Year Stability, Rouh-Hwai Wang, Hui-Ling Chen

Taiwanese Journal of Orthodontics

This is a case of skeletal class III malocclusion with facial asymmetry, gummy smile, and maxillary canting, treated with bimaxillary surgery and orthodontic treatment. The two-jaw surgery was performed including a 3-pieces LeFort I segmental osteotomy, anterior segment impaction with clockwise rotation, and bilateral sagittal split osteotomies with genioplasty. Through the 2-year-4-month treatment procedure, the skeletal and occlusal relationship turned to be normal with esthetically pleasing smile and profile. Furthermore, in the two-year follow-up, we found the treatment results were quite stable no matter in skeletal or dental aspects.

Background: Low temperature degradation, also known as ageing, is the major challenge we cannot avoid in zirconia restorations. Changes in temperature, pressure, mechanical force and moisture are few of the factors which contribute to ageing which eventually leads to failure of zirconia restorations. Background/objectives: Professional topical fluoride (F) gel application has been used to prevent dental caries with a concern about safety in young children. The aim of this study is to evaluate a paint-on technique using a No. 8 paint brush for applying professional topical F gel as an alternative method in children at a safer, lower dose compared with a tray. Background: Animal studies are pivotal in allowing experimentation to identify efficacious treatment protocols for resolution of peri-implantitis. The purpose of this investigation was to characterize an expedited dog peri-implantitis model clinically, radiographically, and microbiologically. Methods: Eight hound dogs underwent extractions (week 0) and implant (3.3 × 8.5 mm) placement with simultaneous surgical defect creation and ligature placement for induction of peri-implantitis (week 10). Ligatures were replaced at 6 weeks (week 16) and removed after 9 weeks (week 19) when supporting bone loss involved approximately 50% of the peri-implant bone. To compare fracture resistance of endodontically treated maxillary premolars restored with ceramic restorations using three retentive techniques. Forty maxillary premolars were randomly selected as a control (Group 1), composite core/crown (Group 2), fiber-reinforced composite post/ composite core/crown (Group 3) and endocrown (Group 4). All restorations were thermo-cycled and subjected to vertical loading. Fracture load and fracture modes were analyzed. The results showed that Group 3 recorded a significantly highest fracture load (2304 ± 737 N). Background/objectives This study aimed to investigate the effect of one or two brackets on orthodontic frictional forces and to compare frictional forces of posterior segments when a molar tube had different degrees of tipping. Materials and Methods Five different types of posterior segment templates with six templates per type were constructed. Templates A and B had one and two brackets with an untipped tube, respectively. Background
When implants are restored with cement-retained restorations, prosthetic retrievability can be difficult and often requires sectioning using rotary instruments. Sometimes repeated removals of a cement-retained implant crown are needed such as for treatment of peri-implantitis or immediate implant provisionalization. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG) laser as a non-invasive treatment modality to remove lithium disilicate crowns from zirconia implant abutments following long-term cementation, repetitive debonding and re-cementation, and short-term retrieval.
