NOD-like receptors (NLRs) play a large role in regulation of host innate immunity, yet their role in periodontitis remains to be defined. NLRX1, a member of the NLR family that localizes to mitochondria, enhances mitochondrial ROS (mROS) generation. mROS can activate the NLRP3 inflammasome, yet the role of NLRX1 in NLRP3 inflammasome activation has not been examined. In this study, we revealed the mechanism by which NLRX1 positively regulates ATP-induced NLRP3 inflammasome activation through mROS in gingival epithelial cells (GECs). Orofacial development is a multifaceted process involving tightly regulated genetic signaling networks, that when perturbed, lead to orofacial abnormalities including cleft lip and/or cleft palate. We and others have shown an association between the cysteine-rich secretory protein LCCL domain containing 2 (CRISPLD2) gene and nonsyndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (NSCLP). Further, we demonstrated that knockdown of Crispld2 in zebrafish alters neural crest cell migration patterns resulting in abnormal jaw and palate development. Purpose

Furcations are complicated periodontal defects. Untreated furcations lead to loss of the involved teeth and supporting tissues. It has been demonstrated that regenerative biomaterials are beneficial in reconstruction of the bone surrounding furcation‐affected teeth. These biomaterials range from bone grafts and nonresorbable/resorbable barrier membranes to biologics that are able to trigger inactive regenerative processes in periodontal tissues. Selection of appropriate material(s) to treat furcations is challenging. The aim of this article is to provide a comparative outlook on different biomaterials applicable in regeneration of furcations with a focus on enamel matrix derivative (EMD).

BACKGROUND This in vitro experimental study investigated and compared the physical properties of three newly developed atraumatic restorative treatment materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS Atraumatic Restorative Treatment materials (ART) with three different compositions were prepared by varying the percentage of Azadirachta indica (Neem) extract within the materials. Micro-hardness, compressive strength, marginal adaptation to tooth structure of the atraumatic restorative treatment materials were assessed. Chronic orofacial pain is a significant health problem requiring identification of regulating processes. Involvement of epigenetic modifications that is reported for hindlimb neuropathic pain experimental models, however, is less well studied in cranial nerve pain models. Three independent observations reported here are the (1) epigenetic profile in mouse trigeminal ganglia (TG) after trigeminal inflammatory compression (TIC) nerve injury mouse model determined by gene expression microarray, (2) H3K9 acetylation pattern in TG by immunohistochemistry, and (3) efficacy of histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors to attenuate development of hypersensitivity. Objective: To evaluate the correlation between atlas morphology and maxillo-mandibular divergence.
Study design: Cross-sectional, analytic study.
Place and duration of study: Dental Clinics, The Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, Pakistan from February to August 2017.
Methodology: Pretreatment lateral cephalograms of 208 subjects, aged 18 to 25 years, were evaluated. The atlas parameters were categorized into atlas dorsum, anteroposterior and ventrum, and measured on View Pro-X software. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the long term effect of a centric interference on canine tooth wear (CTW) and on centric occlusion (CO) and maximal intercuspation (MIP) variance. Materials and Methods: Thirty subjects, 11 males and 19 females, were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Changes in enamel volume were studied between the end of orthodontic treatment (T2) and at least seven years post treatment (T4). Expedient interpolation of segmented data that provides clinically acceptable results will encourage clinicians to frequently use CBCT images for clinical/radiographic evaluation. The difficulty in providing stability to the coronal segment makes cervical root fracture one of the most challenging dental traumatic injury. This type of injury is less frequent in children. However, due to their serious consequences and poor prognosis, tooth loss may occur. This report presents the management of a case of cervical root fracture in an 11-year-old patient with epilepsy. The stabilization of the root-fractured tooth with a splint failed due to the recurrent seizures the patient had. Integrating oral health into an existing San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) social marketing campaign was a specific goal of the San Francisco Children’s Oral Health Strategic Plan 2014-2017 with the purpose to more fully integrate oral health promotion into the City’s overall health promotion efforts. In the winter of 2015, utilizing a collaborative approach, oral health was successfully integrated in the Open Truth campaign, promoting decreased consumption of sugar sweetened beverages in order to improve health outcomes, including decreasing tooth decay.

Background: Interprofessional Education (IPE) is mandated for accreditation in health professional schools. IPE between Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and dentistry students have been developed to improve health oral systemic health outcomes and improve inter-professional practice competencies.

Method: Literature on APRN dental IPE was searched was searched via CINAHL Complete from 2007-2018, looking for scholarly journals, English language. The search was narrowed from 55 to three relevant, data-based studies.

Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) is the main etiological bacteria present in the oral cavity that leads to dental caries. All of the S. mutans in the oral cavity form biofilms that adhere to the surfaces of teeth. Dental caries are infections facilitated by the development of biofilm. An esterified derivative of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), epigallocatechin-3-gallate-stearate (EGCG-S), was used in this study to assess its ability to inhibit the growth and biofilm formation of S. mutans. DATA SOURCES: Primary and secondary data on health care use and outcomes for participants in Oregon's 2008 Medicaid lottery.

STUDY DESIGN: We used the lottery's random selection to gauge the causal effects of Medicaid on dental care needs, medication, and emergency department visits for dental care.

The Cast-Radiograph Evaluation is the index used by the American Board of Orthodontics. The purpose of this study is to use this index to evaluate treatment outcomes in the graduate orthodontic clinic at Loma Linda University from 2012-2016. Materials and Methods: Patients included were comprehensively treated, debonded between 1/1/2012 and 12/31/2016, and under age 30.
