Background: Adult oral health has been identified as a major public health problem by the United States Surgeon General. A substantial number of adults between the ages of 20 and 64 have untreated tooth decay. There are limited treatment options for adults without dental insurance. Low-income adults must turn to free/low cost clinics, or private dentists that accept Medicaid to receive dental care. However, these resources are often limited. When the resources are not available these adults are left to deal with untreated tooth decay which can lead to worsening conditions and other health issues.

OBJECTIVES: The various types of cone beam CT (CBCT) differ in several technical characteristics, notably their spatial resolution, which is defined by the acquisition voxel size. However, data are still lacking on the effects of voxel size on the metric accuracy of three-dimensional (3D) reconstructions. This study was designed to assess the effect of isotropic voxel size on the 3D reconstruction accuracy and reproducibility of CBCT data.

Background: Denture liners are routinely used as part of immediate denture therapy, following surgery involving edentulous tissues, and to improve the function and stability of existing removable prostheses. Appropriate application of denture liners can facilitate patient comfort during prolonged therapy and prior to placement of definitive restorations. Background: The objective of this study is to determine if facial soft tissue measurements using digital calipers can be reliably taken by the same examiner and by a large group of examiners.

Materials and Methods: Ten examiners performed a set of 18 in-clinic measurements on 10 female and 10 male dental students using a digital caliper twice over a 3-week period. The intra-class correlation coefficient and the Shrout-Fleiss method were used for the statistical analysis.

Results: Anthropometric intra-examiner reliability was high for all measurements (none fell below R = 0.934). However, inter-examiner reliability exhibited a wide range of values, some …

Phaeohyphomycosis is an infection caused by pigment-producing saprophytic fungi. Systemic infections may occur in the immunocompromised patient. Infection in healthy individuals may result in subcutaneous abscess formation. Oral lesions appear to be rare. A case of intraoral phaeohyphomycosis presenting as a well-demarcated, painful nodule of the anterior hard palate in a 12-year-old healthy male is described. The mass was excised and the diagnosis was established following histopathologic examination of the tissue.

Despite the declining prevalence of dental caries over recent decades, caries remain the most common chronic childhood disease, especially in high-risk (low socio-economic status) populations. This appears to be true even when parents are aware of good oral health habits. The purpose of this study was to gather oral hygiene data on high-risk children in Nevada and to assess parental attitudes and education concerning their children’s oral health. Using visual examinations and a dmft (decayed, missing, filled, teeth) severity index, 235 lower SES children were screened and given treatment recommendations. Background: Elevated blood lead levels (EBLL) are declining in the United States, although some population subgroups continue to exhibit significant health disparities. A childhood lead poisoning prevention program was recently started in Nevada, and many efforts have been made to support this program and increase the screening rates.

Methods: To expand the potential pool of children screened for EBLLs, a pilot study was performed to evaluate lead concentrations in extracted deciduous teeth using Graphic Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (GFAAS), Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis.

Over 51 million school hours are missed annually by school-aged children due to a dental problem or visit, with 117 hours missed per 100 children (NIDCR, 2002). Approximately half a million of California's 7.2 million school-age children missed at least one day of school in 2007 because of dental issues such as toothaches (Pourat, & Nicholson, 2009). As the number of older adults in the United States continues to grow, this change in patient demographics will profoundly affect the practice of dental hygiene. Not only are there more older adults, but they are also retaining more of their natural teeth than ever before. The risk of alveolar bone loss; gingival recession, which can lead to exposed cervical and root areas of the teeth; and tooth wear all increase with age. Objective To investigate the prevalence and risk factors, both prosthesis and microbiological, associated with different types of denture stomatitis in Thai patients. Materials and methods Thai patients with upper removable denture (n = 137) were evaluated for the prevalence of and risk factors associated with denture stomatitis by questionnaire, oral and dental prosthesis examination. Palatal mucosa and denture fitting surfaces were swabbed for yeast carriage investigation. Candida species were primarily identified by colony color on chromogenic Candida agar, and their identity confirmed by colony, microscopic cell morphology, and biochemistry tests. วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อประเมินค่ากําลังแรงยึดแบบผลักของเดือยฟันคอมโพสิตเสริมเส้นใยเมื่อยึดด้วยเซลฟ์แอดฮีซีฟเรซินซีเมนต์ในผนังคลองรากฟันแต่ละตําแหน่งที่มีการปรับสภาพด้วยวิธีแตกต่างกัน วัสดุและวิธีการ ฟันกรามน้อยล่างรากเดียวจํานวน 40 ปี แบ่งเป็น 4 กลุ่ม กลุ่มละ 10 โดยวิธีสุ่ม ตัดส่วนตัวฟัน รักษาคลองรากฟันและเตรียมพื้นที่สําหรับเดือยฟันไฟบริเคลียร์ เบอร์ 3 ปรับสภาพผนังคลองรากฟันดังนี้ กลุ่มที่ 1 ไม่มีการปรับสภาพผนังคลองรากฟัน กลุ่มที่ 2-4 ปรับสภาพผนังคลองรากฟันด้วยกรดฟอสฟอริกความเข้มข้นร้อยละ 37 นาน 5 วินาที (กลุ่มที่ 2) อีดีทีเอความเข้มข้นร้อยละ 17 นาน 1 นาที (กลุ่มที่ 3) และอีดีทีเอความเข้มข้น ร้อยละ 17 นาน 1 นาที ตามด้วยโซเดียมไฮโปคลอไรท์ความเข้มข้นร้อยละ 2.5 นาน 15 วินาที (กลุ่มที่ 4) จาก นั้นยึดเดือยฟันด้วยเซลฟ์แอดฮิซิฟเรซินซีเมนต์รีไลเอ็กซ์ยูนิเซม (RelyXTM Unicem) ตัดฟันทุกซี่เป็น 6 ชิ้น แต่ละชิ้นหนา 1 +0.05 มิลลิเมตร ทดสอบค่ากําลังแรงยึดแบบผลักด้วยเครื่องทดสอบสากล (Instron) ความเร็ว ของหัวกด 0.5 มิลลิเมตรต่อนาที นําข้อมูลมาวิเคราะห์ความแปรปรวนสองทางและเปรียบเทียบเชิงซ้อนชนิด ทุกีย์ ที่ระดับนัยสําคัญ p < 0.05 และวิเคราะห์ลักษณะการแตกที่เกิดขึ้นของทุกชิ้นทดสอบด้วยกล้องจุลทรรศน์ชนิดสเตอริโอ ผลการศึกษา ค่ากําลังแรงยึดแบบผลักของกลุ่มที่ 2 มีค่าสูงที่สุด โดยค่ากําลังแรงยึดของกลุ่มที่ 3 มีค่าสูงกว่ากลุ่มที่ 1 และ 4 อย่างมีนัยสําคัญ แต่กลุ่มที่ 1 และ 4 มีค่าไม่แตกต่างกัน (p>0.05) นอกจากนี้ตําแหน่งรากฟันไม่ส่งผล ต่อค่ากําลังแรงยึดแบบผลัก (p>0.05) สรุป การปรับสภาพผนังคลองรากฟันด้วยกรดฟอสฟอริกความเข้มข้นร้อยละ 37 นาน 5 วินาทีหรืออีดีทีเอความ เข้มข้นร้อยละ 17 นาน 1 นาที สามารถเพิ่มค่ากําลังแรงยึดแบบผลักของเซลฟ์แอดฮีซีฟเรซินซีเมนต์ (ว ทันต จุฬาฯ 2555;35:167-78)

Modification Of Anterior Guidance In Patient With Wear In Mandibular Anterior Teeth: A Case Report, Mathuros Korkerdsup, Chalermpol Leevailoj

This case report describes how to establish the favorable anterior guidance in an anterior tooth wear patient. The anterior tooth wear is present at lower anterior teeth with an improper contour upper anterior fixed partial dental prosthesis (FPDP) 12-21. The FPDP was removed and replaced with a provisional cantilever FPDP. The favorable anterior guidance was established using a custom incisal guide table. Final restoration was placed. Periodic follow up evaluation is necessary.
