The Immunomodulatory Roles Of Supracrestal Gingival Connective Tissue-Derived Human Mesenchymal Stromal Cells In The Polarization Of Macrophages, Jirawit Inthayat Jan 2020

The Immunomodulatory Roles Of Supracrestal Gingival Connective Tissue-Derived Human Mesenchymal Stromal Cells In The Polarization Of Macrophages, Jirawit Inthayat

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

MSCs exert their immunomodulatory effects on various immune cells by cell-cell contact and cytokines secretion. Our previous study has demonstrated that supracrestal gingival connective tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (SG-MSCs) were recognized to be a good candidate for periodontal regeneration. SG-MSCs showed the similar potential to PDL-MSCs and held significant advantage over PDL-MSCs by which a tooth extraction is not required. In terms of immunomodulatory properties, the effect of SG-MSCs on macrophage has never been explored. This study was aimed to investigate the effects of SG-MSCs on macrophages by cocultured SG-MSCs and THP-1-derived macrophages (THP-1-MPs) in direct cell-cell contact condition. Briefly, …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Radiotherapy is the standard treatment of head and neck cancer (HNC). The radiation may affect on normal tissue and surrounding salivary gland resulting to xerostomia. Treatment of radiation-related xerostomia focuses on relieving symptoms by using saliva substitutes or saliva stimulants. Because the salivary stimulants have significant side effects, such as sweating, dizziness or increasing urge to urinate, saliva substitutes are preferable. Trehalose solution has been suggested for improve moisture in dry mouth condition and can be used as saliva substitute. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of 10% Trehalose solution spray to improve dry mouth condition …

Prevalence Of Enterococcus Faecalis And Candida Albicans In Teeth Requiring Endodontic Retreatment, Sopida Thipung Jan 2020

Prevalence Of Enterococcus Faecalis And Candida Albicans In Teeth Requiring Endodontic Retreatment, Sopida Thipung

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Endodontic failures are mainly caused by persistence of microorganisms in the root canal system. Enterococcus faecalis has been reported as the most commonly isolated species from root canals with endodontic treatment failure in many studies, but was not the dominant species in others. Recent studies showed that Candida albicans is found together with Enterococcus faecalis within infected root canals in a polymicrobial community and both species can form biofilm. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the prevalence of Enterococcus faecalis and/or Candida albicans in root canals requiring retreatment by using both culture-based and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniques, and examine …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Bisphoshonates (BPs) are widely used for treating osteoporosis, multiple myeloma, breast cancer, and bone metastasis cancer. Trauma or tooth extraction in patients treated with BPs can lead to MRONJ development because of its mechanism of action by which interferes bone homeostasis and angiogenesis. Once MRONJ has occurred, this hard-to-cure disease posed the risk of having poor quality of life to the patients. The application of miRNA for curing the diseases is now being of interest in medical field. Aiming at elucidating the role of miRNAs in the pathogenesis of MRONJ, a rat model was used in creating MRONJ and the …
