BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: It has been known that genetic factors influence orthodontic tooth movement, however, scientific research on humans is lacking. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate dynamic changes to the genetic profile in human periodontal ligament (PDL) tissue and cytokine release in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) during the first 28 days of orthodontic treatment.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifteen teeth from three patients were recruited. BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI), an assemblage of genetic diseases with dental enamel malformations, is generally grouped into hypoplastic, hypomaturation, and hypocalcified types. This study aimed to identify the genetic etiology for a consanguineous Iranian family with autosomal recessive hypocalcified AI.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: Dental defects were characterized, and whole exome analysis conducted to search for disease-causing mutations. Minigene assay and RT-PCR were performed to evaluate molecular consequences of the identified mutation and expression of the causative gene in human dental tissues.

Single-cell omics and multi-omics have revolutionized our understanding of molecular and cellular biological processes at a single-cell level. In bone biology, the combination of single-cell RNA-sequencing analyses and in vivo lineage-tracing approaches has successfully identified multi-cellular diversity and dynamics of skeletal cells. This established a new concept that bone growth and regeneration are regulated by concerted actions of multiple types of skeletal stem cells, which reside in spatiotemporally distinct niches. Due to the underutilization of screening mammography, African American women (AAW) are more likely to experience negative health outcomes after receiving a late-stage breast cancer diagnosis than White Women (WW). BACKGROUND: Several studies have demonstrated varying rates of efficacy, reliability, and sensitivity of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in identifying occult nodal disease for early stage oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC) depending on the radionuclide agent utilized. No head-to-head comparison of cost or clinical outcomes of SLNB when utilizing [99mTc]tilmanocept versus [99mTc]sulfur colloid has been performed. Titanium (Ti) and Ti-based alloys are commonly used in dental implants, and surface modifications of dental implants are important for achieving osseointegration (i.e., direct connection between the implant surface and bone). This study investigated the effect of an eco-friendly etching solution-a hydrogen peroxide-sodium bicarbonate mixture-on the surface properties and contact angles of osteoblast adhesion and proliferation on Ti surfaces. Disk-shaped Ti specimens were prepared using different surface treatments (machining, sandblasting, and sandblasting/acid-etching), and they were immersed in the etching solution and ultrasonically cleaned. PURPOSE: Biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP), a widely used biomaterial for bone regeneration, contains synthetic hydroxyapatite (HA) and β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP), the ratio of which can be adjusted to modulate the rate of degradation. The aim of the present study is to determine the prevalence and demographics of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) condylar changes in the asymptomatic general population of a hospital based Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) practice. We retrospectively reviewed cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans of 272 TMJs from 136 consecutive patients to detect osteophyte, subchondral cyst, sclerosis, cortical erosions, and flattening. While gender did not appear to play a significant role in TMJ pathology, age was positively correlated with prevalence of condylar changes. Leukemia is the most prevalent malignancy of leukocytes and can occur in children and adults. Oral manifestations are part of the complexity of signs and symptoms in patients with leukemia and, in some patients, oral manifestations precede systemic manifestations. Oral signs of leukemia include spontaneous bleeding, gingival enlargement, and whiteness of the oral mucosa. Head and neck lymphadenopathy is common in patients with leukemia. Eliminating health disparities and achieving health equity are central to US national health objectives and the Military Health System’s “quadruple aim,” which has readiness as its core aim. Because military service members enjoy universal eligibility for health care, it is sometimes assumed that health disparities do not exist in the Department of Defense (DoD). However, while some studies have shown that disparities have been attenuated or eliminated in the DoD, others suggest that significant disparities remain. OBJECTIVE: Studies with statistically significant results are frequently more likely to be published than those with non-significant results. This phenomenon leads to publication bias or small-study effects and can seriously affect the validity of the conclusion from systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Small-study effects typically appear in a specific direction, depending on whether the outcome of interest is beneficial or harmful, but this direction is rarely taken into account in conventional methods.
