Bactericidal Mechanism Of Peracetic Acid Against Salmonella Mediated By Reactive Oxygen Species, Mohammed Khalid Wheib Al-Doury
Bactericidal Mechanism Of Peracetic Acid Against Salmonella Mediated By Reactive Oxygen Species, Mohammed Khalid Wheib Al-Doury
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Peracetic acid (PAA) is extensively used as a bactericidal agent in poultry processing to reduce foodborne pathogens, including Salmonella enterica serotype Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium). Despite its widespread application, the exact mechanisms underlying its bactericidal effects, particularly the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS), remain incompletely understood. This dissertation examines the role of ROS in PAA-mediated bacterial killing and explores both genetic and metabolic factors that influence bacterial susceptibility to PAA. Findings from these studies have implications for enhancing the efficacy of PAA, thereby improving food safety practices in the industry.
The first study investigates ROS as a central component …

Background: Despite the popularity of JUUL e-cigarettes, other brands (eg, Elf Bar) may be gaining digital attention.
Objective: This study compared Google searches for Elf Bar and JUUL from 2022 to 2023 using Google Health Trends Application Programming Interface data.
Methods: Using an infodemiology approach, we examined weekly trends in Google searches (per 10 million) for “Elf Bar” and “JUUL” at the US national and state levels from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023. Joinpoint regression was used to assess statistically significant trends in the search probabilities for “Elf Bar” and “JUUL” during the study period.
Results: Elf Bar …

Background:
The COVID-19 pandemic triggered policy changes in 2020 that allowed insurance companies to reimburse telehealth services, leading to increased telehealth use, especially in rural and underserved areas. However, with many emergency rules ending in 2022, patients and health care providers face potential challenges in accessing these services.
Objective:
This study analyzed telehealth use across specialties in Arkansas before and after the pandemic (2017-2022) using data from electronic medical records from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Medical Center. We explored trends in insurance coverage for telehealth visits and developed metrics to compare the performance of telehealth versus in-person …

Background: Recruiting participants for clinical trials poses challenges. Major barriers to participation include psychological factors (eg, fear and mistrust) and logistical constraints (eg, transportation, cost, and scheduling). The strategic design of clinical trial messaging can help overcome these barriers. While strategic communication can be done through various channels (eg, recruitment advertisements), health care providers on the internet have been found to be key sources for communicating clinical trial information to US adults in the social media era.
Objective: This study aims to examine how communication source (ie, medical doctors and peers) and message framing of TikTok videos (ie, psychological and …
Utilizing Spatial Transcriptomics To Compare Gene Expression In Volumetric Muscle Loss Injury Recovery, Colton Gattis
Utilizing Spatial Transcriptomics To Compare Gene Expression In Volumetric Muscle Loss Injury Recovery, Colton Gattis
Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
Volumetric Muscle Loss (VML) injuries are known to disrupt the normal regenerative process via fibrosis leading to an extensive permanent loss of muscle function. The specific causation of this disruption remains to be defined; however, with new developments in transcriptomics, genetic trends can be identified across regions of tissue over time. This study follows VML injuries within the tibialis anterior of a mouse model for fifteen days after initial injury to attempt to identify expected transitions in healing. Genetic presence began to become more diversified as recovery progressed from four to fifteen days post injury with spatial clusters becoming globalized …
Characterization Of Public Opinion On Severity Of Mental Illness And Hiv Based On Individual Traits Using Hierarchical Multi-Category Probit Models, Md Moinul Ahsan
Characterization Of Public Opinion On Severity Of Mental Illness And Hiv Based On Individual Traits Using Hierarchical Multi-Category Probit Models, Md Moinul Ahsan
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In this thesis, we focus on modeling categorical response variables from public opinion datasets. A hierarchical probit model was used to analyze these different variables. Particularly for multinomial data, we tried different covariate settings to see the model’s performance. For that purpose, we tried two different estimation techniques. The first algorithm uses identified parameters by fixing the first diagonal element of the covariance matrix at 1. The second algorithm uses one unidentifiable parameter and subsequently identifies the parameters by fixing the trace of the covariance matrix. The results from the simulation study confirm that the trace-restricted algorithm performs better with …

The purpose of the study is to investigate patient-physician interactions during a clinical encounter to ascertain the impact of tablet computing on physician satisfaction during a clinical encounter. This study was conducted at a primary care clinic, and the physicians who participated could use a tablet during their clinical encounters. The authors compared satisfaction between physicians who used the tablet during a clinical encounter and those who did not using data from 122 clinical encounters involving 82 patients. The results indicate that physicians who used the tablet during clinical encounters are more satisfied than those who did not. Additionally, there …
