This poster examines the relationship between clinical symptom scales and electroencephalographic (EEG) biomarkers in patients with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Participants from inpatient substance use treatment facilities completed validated mental health and withdrawal assessments, including the COWS, PHQ-9, HAM-A, and ASRS followed by cognitive testing while undergoing 19-lead EEG recording.
Preliminary findings indicate that synthetic opioid use is associated with prolonged P300 response latency across brain regions, suggesting measurable neurophysiologic differences tied to substance type and addiction severity. The study explores how EEG metrics may complement subjective symptom reporting to provide more objective markers of addiction status, co-morbid psychiatric burden, …

A Narrative Review Of Barriers To Utilization Of Surgical Risk Assessment Calculators, Jacob Lahti, Kaiya A. Noe, Abigail Veenstra, Sarah Gallitto, Victoria I. De Leon, Thomas C. Varkey, Nimit Agarwal
Annual Research Symposium
Over the last several decades, it has become the desire of surgical and medical teams to decrease risk levels involved for patients undergoing surgery. However, despite the advent of risk assessment calculators to help physicians obtain more accurate and objective judgements for postoperative complications, these tools are underutilized in standard clinical practices in comparison to other methods of risk assessment. This is likely due at least in part to certain barriers that decrease their functionality and ease of use. This review discusses the major barriers to the utilization of current risk calculators so as to allow for a better understanding …

Ctl+Heal: A Scoping Review On Therapeutic Alliance And Technology, Vineet Sadarangani
Ctl+Heal: A Scoping Review On Therapeutic Alliance And Technology, Vineet Sadarangani
Annual Research Symposium
A strong therapeutic alliance between a healthcare provider and patient is built upon a strong bond, trust, and open communication, all essential for successful healthcare outcomes. Establishing a robust therapeutic alliance relies significantly on non-verbal behaviors, including tone, facial expression, and eye contact. Traditionally, expert feedback was essential for addressing undesirable non-verbal behaviors and cultivating desirable ones; however, technological advancements have introduced the concept of technology-assisted feedback. This would eliminate the immediate need for experts, thus allowing the clinician more time to focus on their clinical skills; however, these methods are scattered across various fields of medical education, technology and …
Evaluation Of Novel Therapeutic Agents For The Treatment Of Chronic Dry Eyes, Lilian Huynh, Evonie Villarete, Surajit Dey
Evaluation Of Novel Therapeutic Agents For The Treatment Of Chronic Dry Eyes, Lilian Huynh, Evonie Villarete, Surajit Dey
Annual Research Symposium
Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial ocular condition, where disrupted tear film stability and ocular surface inflammation affected between 5% to 34% of the worldwide population in 2015 and posed a challenge to conventional ophthalmic treatments. Recent advances have led to potential novel therapeutics aiming to alleviate symptoms and improve patient outcomes.
Post-Partum Depression (Ppd) Screening Tools Effectiveness In Refugee Populations, Joshua Jensen
Post-Partum Depression (Ppd) Screening Tools Effectiveness In Refugee Populations, Joshua Jensen
Annual Research Symposium
Purpose:
Immigrant mothers check all the boxes that are significant risk factors for developing or exacerbating Postpartum Depression (PPD). These risk factors include, suffering in solitude, cultural conceptualizations, barriers to help seeking, and a lack of facilitators to help seeking. Despite this very little research has been done to find effective screening methods for this population.
The purpose of this research project is to compile the works of those before me to determine whether the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression or the PHQ 9 screening tool is the most effective for immigrant mothers.
Methods:
Research determining the effectivity of the two tests …
