The functional limitations associated with the painful stiffness of knee osteoarthritis (kOA) can affect the muscles of the knee, such as the quadriceps femoris (QF) and articularis genu (AG). The vastus medialis oblique (VMO) of the QF complex is particularly sensitive to kOA. The AG, which can be sampled during total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for kOA, can provide information about the condition of the QF when affected by patient-reported disuse, helping to identify indicators of muscle weakness in the synovial fluid. Diaper dermatitis is a rash typically localized to the genital area and may have various etiologies, including irritant and allergic contact dermatitis. In most cases, it resolves on its own with minimal to no medical intervention, and when treatment is necessary, it usually responds promptly. Here, we present a prolonged case of diaper dermatitis accompanied by a nearly full-body rash that was resistant to initial treatment with steroids, antibiotics, and antifungals.

Introduction: The rubber dam has been a standard in endodontic practice for over 140 years, providing critical isolation to prevent microbial contamination during root canal therapy. However, studies indicate that microleakage between the rubber dam and tooth structure may still occur, potentially leading to bacterial infiltration. Lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs) constitute a group of monogenic systemic diseases resulting from deficiencies in specific lysosomal enzymes that cause the intralysosomal accumulation of non- or partially degraded substrates, leading to lysosomal dysfunction. In some cases of LSDs, the bone is more severely affected, thus producing skeletal manifestations in patients. Current therapies, such as enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) and gene therapy (GT), show limited efficacy in correcting skeletal abnormalities. OBJECTIVE: To compare the impact of upper versus lower lumbar decompression on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs).

MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients undergoing L1-L2, L2-L3, L4-L5, or L5-S1 single-level elective decompression with 1-year PROMs were identified. Included PROMs were the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), visual analog scale (VAS) back and leg, and Short Form-12 physical (PCS) and mental (MCS) component scores. Minimal clinically important differences (MCID) were calculated. Multivariable regressions assessed the independent predictive ability of operative level controlling for demographic confounders.

BACKGROUND: The objective of this study was to determine the effect of bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) on long-term patient outcomes when used as an adjuvant to acetabular repair of the labrum.

METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis were completed following PRISMA 2020 guidelines. OBJECTIVE: To establish thyroid ultrasound volume norms appropriate for studies of diffuse goiter in a cohort of children and adolescents from an iodine-deficient population exposed to 131I by the Chernobyl fallout.

METHODS: A cohort of 11,970 Belarusians aged ≤18 years at the time of the 1986 Chernobyl accident with individual thyroid radiation dose estimates was screened 10-18 years later. From these, a low-dose subset of 2,392 with no thyroid diseases was selected to construct age- and sex-specific normative values for thyroid ultrasound volume, compared to Belarusian Ministry of Health (MOH) norms and existing WHO and European standards.

The basis and impact of functional asymmetries in the brain, particularly language lateralization, are not fully understood, and the relationship between functional and structural asymmetries remains largely untested. This study investigated the degree to which asymmetries in hemispheric language laterality are concordant with asymmetries in gray matter (GM) structure and whether the hemispheric organization of memory is influenced by functional language asymmetries. BACKGROUND: The study aimed to report the outcomes of patients treated with cenegermin 0.002% for neurotrophic keratopathy (NK) following penetrating keratoplasty (PK).

MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective case series included patients evaluated at a tertiary care hospital who completed an 8-week course of cenegermin for NK within 12 months following PK. The primary outcome measure was NK stage, while secondary outcomes included complete epithelial healing, epithelial defect size, and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at baseline and four time points during and following treatment. Some evidence suggests that female patients are at greater risk of chronic postoperative pain and hernia recurrence. Accurate and timely diagnosis remains a major clinical challenge, hindered by the limitations of conventional histopathological methods, which often rely on labor-intensive staining protocols and subjective interpretation by specialized pathologists. These methods can fail to capture the full molecular and phenotypic heterogeneity of tumors, leading to increased diagnostic time, cost, and variability. The outbreak was widely reported in the media in the United Kingdom, leading to increased emergency department (ED) attendances and threatened supplies of antibiotics. Ladd's procedure is the standard surgical intervention for intestinal malrotation. Although generally curative, rare cases of early postoperative complications, including adhesions or recurrent volvulus, can necessitate reoperation. We present the case of a full-term newborn girl who underwent emergent Ladd's procedure on Day 3 of life for malrotation with volvulus. She was discharged on postoperative Day 17 but returned the following day with recurrent bilious emesis. Imaging suggested partial obstruction. Exploratory laparotomy revealed recurrent volvulus with two twists at the duodenojejunal junction, which was successfully reduced. AIMS: This study compared the six-month medical/pharmacy costs and healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) for knee OA patients undergoing intra-articular therapy with different classes of hyaluronic acid (HA) (by molecular weight) or corticosteroid (ICS). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients across high molecular weight (HMW) HA, medium molecular weight (MMW) HA, low molecular weight (LMW) HA, and ICS therapy groups were matched from a U.S. claims database (Optum's de-identified Clinformatics Data Mart Database), with a final size of 6,234 patients per group. A 23-year-old man with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN 1) with pancreatic tail masses and Cushing syndrome (status after transsphenoidal adenomectomy) presented with a slow-growing, asymptomatic right lower lung lobe mass confirmed to be an atypical carcinoid tumor by pathologic staging following successful basilar segmentectomy with mediastinal lymphadenectomy. Pulmonary carcinoid tumor (PCT) is a rare neoplasm in patients with MEN 1, but there is limited data on trends in atypical versus typical carcinoid tumors in these patients. OBJECTIVE: Assess feasibility, safety, and tolerability of 3 months of oral brivaracetam for severe (9-10/10) spinal cord injury-related neuropathic pain.

METHODS: We conducted a multisite pilot study where adults were randomized to 3 months of brivaracetam (100 mg BID) or placebo. Pain was assessed via the Brief Pain Inventory, the International Spinal Cord Injury Pain Basic Dataset (version 2.0), and a daily pain diary.
