Background: Robotic hepatectomy represents an appealing treatment modality for resectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). A contemporary review of robotic hepatectomy compared to laparo- scopic/open hepatectomy is necessary. Methods: We performed a literature review to identify studies between 2018–2024 comparing robotic to laparoscopic/open hepatectomy for HCC with measurable outcomes. Results: A total of 10 studies were identified, including 943 patients undergoing robotic hepatectomy compared to 1678 patients undergoing laparoscopic/open hepatectomy. Generally, while similar short/long-term survival was noted across all resection modalities, robotic hepatectomy was associated with longer operative time, shorter length of stay, and less post-operative compli- cations. In this paper, we investigated the use of screen printing for the fabrication of a non-invasive wearable sensor, aimed at achieving accurate and continuous measurement of respiratory rate. The developed sensor was clinically evaluated on 15 healthy human participants, demonstrating its potential for point-of-care testing. In this study, female spontaneously hypertensive (SHR) and normotensive Wistar Kyoto (WKY) rats were used to analyze expression patterns of 96 genes spanning inflammatory, metabolic, sympathetic, fibrotic, and renin-angiotensin (RAS) pathways in five organs, at five time points from the onset to established hypertension. BACKGROUND: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and continuous subcutaneous insulin infusions (CSIIs) are the current standard treatment devices for type 1 diabetes (T1D) management. With a high prevalence of T1D beginning in pediatrics and carrying into adulthood, insufficient glycemic control leads to poor patient outcomes. Dermatologic complications such as contact dermatitis, lipodystrophies, and inflammatory lesions are among those associated with CGM and CSII, which reduce glycemic control and patient compliance.

Chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) significantly increases the risk of major adverse limb events (MALE) and major adverse cardiac events (MACE) after lower extremity revascularization (LER). This study aims to identify novel biomarkers that help to further reduce the risk of postoperative cardiovascular complications. In this prospective, nonrandomized, observational study, baseline serum levels of sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) were assessed in 147 diabetic patients scheduled for LER due to CLTI, and participants were followed for the occurrence of MALE and MACE over 12 months. BACKGROUND & AIMS: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder, affecting multiple organ systems. CF intestinal disease develops early, manifesting as intestinal bacterial overgrowth/dysbiosis, neutrophilic inflammation, and obstruction. As unresolvable infection and inflammation reflect host immune deficiency, we sought to determine if the CF-affected immune system plays any significant role in CF intestinal disease pathogenesis. METHODS: CF and sibling wild-type (WT) mice underwent reciprocal bone marrow transplantation. This case report describes a patient with a history of multiple sclerosis (MS) and optic neuritis, who presented with acute onset of generalized abdominal pain. The patient was ultimately diagnosed with cecal volvulus requiring emergent laparotomy and right hemicolectomy. This case highlights the relationship between neurogenic bowel dysfunction (NBD) associated constipation in patients with MS and intestinal volvulus. Additionally, this case demonstrates the importance of NBD associated constipation management through various modalities including laxative regimens, behavioral and diet modification, and reduction of polypharmacy, with an emphasis on individualized patient management.

In 1952, Hershey and Chase used bacteriophage T2 genome delivery inside Escherichia coli to demonstrate that DNA, not protein, is the genetic material. Over 70 years later, our understanding of bacteriophage structure has grown dramatically, mainly thanks to the cryogenic electron microscopy revolution. In stark contrast, phage genome delivery in prokaryotes remains poorly understood, mainly due to the inherent challenge of studying such a transient and complex process. Adiposis dolorosa (Dercum disease) is a rare condition characterized by diffuse and recurring painful lipomas on the trunk and extremities. Patients are typically middle-aged females with an elevated BMI presenting with chronic pain. Physical examination reveals soft subcutaneous nodules and masses, tender to palpation. The associated pain significantly impacts quality of life and requires therapeutic intervention. The most common treatment option is surgical excision. Alternative options should be considered for patients with numerous lipomas where surgical management is not practical or is not desired. This study aims to develop and evaluate radiomics-based machine learning (ML) models for predicting meningioma grades using multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The study utilized the BraTS-MEN dataset's training split, including 698 patients (524 with grade 1 and 174 with grade 2-3 meningiomas). We extracted 4872 radiomic features from T1, T1 with contrast, T2, and FLAIR MRI sequences using PyRadiomics. LASSO regression reduced features to 176. This dataset provides information from a study that validates a method for non-invasive urine collection utilizing sodium polyacrylate-based diapers, designed for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) detection of uropathogens. The dataset includes samples from 17 participants, comprising seven clinically contrived samples inoculated with known uropathogens and ten samples collected from volunteers wearing sodium polyacrylate-based diapers. The study involved optimizing urine extraction from the diaper matrices, ensuring minimal loss of diagnostic sensitivity for downstream quantitative PCR (qPCR) analysis. Disease-modifying therapies are standard of care (SOC) for sickle cell disease (SCD), but hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) has curative potential. We compared outcomes prospectively through 2-years after biologic assignment to a Donor or No Donor (SOC) Arm based on the availability of an HLA-matched sibling or unrelated donor (BMTCTN 1503; NCT02766465). A donor search was commenced after eligibility confirmation. The primary endpoint was the comparison of survival 2 years after biologic assignment between treatment arms. BACKGROUND: Although regular physical activity (PA) mitigates the risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) during midlife, existing PA interventions are minimally effective. Harnessing social influences in daily life shows promise: digital micro-interventions could effectively engage these influences on PA and require testing.

PURPOSE: This feasibility study employed ecological momentary assessment with embedded micro-randomization to activate two types of social influences (i.e., comparison, support; NCT04711512).

Background Total joint arthroplasty (TJA) patients on preoperative anticoagulation therapy present a challenge for adult reconstruction surgeons. The goal in managing such patients is to limit bleeding complications associated with administering the medications while preventing medical complications from withholding them. At our institution, we began a protocol in 2017 that utilizes a half-dose direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) regimen for one week followed by resuming of the full-dose regimen in select patients who underwent TJA. The endoplasmic reticulum is organized into ordered regions enriched in cholesterol and sphingomyelin, and disordered microdomains characterized by more fluidity. Rabbit CYP1A1 and CYP1A2 localize into disordered and ordered microdomains, respectively. Previously, a CYP1A2 chimera containing the first 109 amino acids of CYP1A1 showed altered microdomain localization. The goal of this study was to identify specific residues responsible for CYP1A microdomain localization. Thus, CYP1A2 chimeras containing substitutions from homologous regions of CYP1A1 were expressed in HEK 293T/17 cells, and the localization was examined after solubilization with Brij 98.
