Pediatric low-grade gliomas (pLGGs) exhibit heterogeneous prognoses and variable responses to treatment, leading to tumor progression and adverse outcomes in cases where complete resection is unachievable. Early prediction of treatment responsiveness and suitability for immunotherapy has the potential to improve clinical management and outcomes. Here, we present a radiogenomic analysis of pLGGs, integrating MRI and RNA sequencing data. We identify three immunologically distinct clusters, with one group characterized by increased immune activity and poorer prognosis, indicating potential benefit from immunotherapies. We develop a radiomic signature that predicts these immune profiles with over 80% accuracy. Furthermore, our clinicoradiomic model predicts progression-free …

Recent advances in immunology have broken barriers in reproductive medicine through immune-modulating therapies that support fertility and pregnancy. Treatments such as intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and intralipid infusions are increasingly offered to patients with Recurrent Implantation Failure (RIF) or Recurrent Pregnancy Loss (RPL), conditions that result in miscarriages and failed IVF treatments (Pillarysetti et al., 2023). Maternal-fetal immunology reveals a delicate interplay between immune tolerance and defense: the maternal system must accept a genetically foreign fetus while preserving immunological protection. Background Patients with massive/sub-massive pulmonary embolism (PE) and right ventricular strain have a significant risk of hemodynamic collapse. VA ECMO support provides an excellent salvage option for patients with acute/unstable pulmonary embolism with obstructive cardiogenic shock undergoing mechanical thrombectomy. Using VA-ECMO for a “protective PE” procedure allows control of hemodynamics and enables interventionalists to perform the thrombectomy in a more controlled environment. BACKGROUND: Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are utilized as a therapeutic option for patients with end-stage heart failure. While LVAD implantation can enhance survival rates and quality of life, the procedure has its risks, and postoperative complications are common. This review aims to investigate whether there is an association between living in a rural area and the incidence of postoperative complications or hospital readmissions following LVAD implantation, compared to urban LVAD recipients.

Abstract

Introduction

Despite the recommendations of the United States Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, HPV immunization lags behind other routine vaccines by up to 31%. Although there are many reasons for the low vaccine rate, provider hesitancy and lack of confidence significantly contribute to suboptimal HPV vaccine uptake.

Objectives

This project aimed to utilize evidence-driven interventions to increase family nurse practitioners' (FNPs) knowledge and confidence in offering the HPV vaccine.

Methods

Participants were given pre- and post-questionnaire surveys. The Wilcoxon Rank Test was used to compare, quantify, and measure the results of the eight-week data collection.

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is characterized by vasculitis of small and medium sized blood vessels and granulomatous lesions of the upper respiratory tract. A rare condition associated with GPA, subglottic stenosis, presents in about 20% of cases on inpatient GPA. Symptoms such as stridor, hoarseness, dyspnea and dysphagia are hall marks of subglottic stenosis. Here we present the case of a male patient with life threatening subglottic stenosis that required tracheostomy.

Introduction Surgical site infections (SSI) account for 20% of all healthcare associated infections with an estimated yearly cost of $3.3 billion in the US alone (1). Cefazolin (Ancef) is a commonly used prophylactic antibiotic in orthopaedic surgery and has been shown to reduce SSI compared to other antibiotics, but potential cross-reactivity in patients with a penicillin allergy (PA) leads to concerns regarding the safety of cefazolin administration. Among personal protective equipment, beard covers for surgical staff with facial hair have been recommended as a measure to prevent contamination. Introduction: Pericardial effusion resulting from uremic pericarditis is a complication associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD). In patients with advanced CKD or End Stage renal disease (ESRD) renal transplant is the definitive treatment to improve long term outcomes. However, the presence of a large pericardial effusion poses a risk of hemodynamic compromise during transplant surgery. Options of stabilizing the patient with aggressive dialysis, pericardiocentesis or pericardial window can be considered. Introduction: This quality improvement project centers around the implementation of a dedicated mechanism for ordering bubble studies in echocardiograms at Medical City North Hills Hospital. Drawing inspiration from successful implementations observed at Medical City Denton Hospital, the project aims to address existing challenges, standardize practices, and improve overall efficiency in the echocardiogram ordering workflow. Background: The echocardiogram ordering process at Medical City North Hills Hospital currently faces challenges, specifically the absence of a dedicated mechanism for ordering bubble studies.
