Less has been established regarding care protocols in this population. The absence of standardized procedures has been linked to preventable, adverse patient outcomes, including cases of permanent damage due to delayed treatment. Background: Team Rubicon International deploys emergency medical teams with little targeted training on the health and illness patterns common to the geographic region and the type of disasters to which they respond, such as cholera, malaria, and malnutrition. These high-risk, low-incidence illnesses are infrequently seen in Western medical practices. Medical, nursing, and paramedical training programs address these illness patterns in the curriculum. With a referral rate at 5-fold capacity, the need to create an efficient intake process that allowed for triage and data collection was apparent.

PURPOSE: Institute an integrated electronic new patient intake questionnaire (e-NPIQ) to improve work efficiency.

A chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by disruption of the epidermal barrier, eczema has increased in prevalence in tandem with industrialization. Ambient air pollution is a ubiquitous exposure resulting from industrial processes that includes fine particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter measuring less than 2.5 µm (PM2.5). Studies on the potential association between PM2.5 and eczema have produced conflicting results. Objective: To assess if evidence of disparities exists in functional recovery and social health post-lower limb amputation.

Design: Race-ethnicity, gender, and income-based group comparisons of functioning and social health in a convenience sample of lower limb prosthetic users.

Setting: Prosthetic clinics in 4 states.

Participants: A geographically diverse cohort of 56 English and Spanish speaking community-dwelling individuals with dysvascular lower limb amputation, between 18-80 years old.

The American Society for Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition (ASPEN) and the Society for Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) updated the Adult Patient Enteral Nutrition Guidelines in 2016. These updates included discontinuing routine gastric residual monitoring due to its contribution to poor patient outcomes and mentioning the lack of evidence proving its relevance to gastric motility. Per ASPEN and SCCM, best practice suggests monitoring patients for intolerance symptoms and then checking gastric residual volume (GRV) if symptoms are present. Ninety-one percent of surviving spouses in the U.S. cared for their spouses before they died. This review explores the challenges of the transition from caregiving to widowhood and different coping strategies used by widowed spousal caregivers. A systematic review of literature on the transition from caregiving to widowhood was conducted using four major academic search engines. Overall, 280 articles were identified, with 22 meeting the inclusion criteria. Challenges for widowed caregivers included experiencing care burden, letting go of the caregiver role, grief, and triggers. Few studies have examined the association between green space and life expectancy, and only one study has looked at that data for small areas in the United States. These studies have found a positive association between green space and life expectancy. This study investigates the association between green space and small-area life expectancy in Chicago, a city in the United States with distinct environmental and socioeconomic characteristics and the largest U.S. life expectancy gap between neighborhoods.

Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, accounting for 74% of deaths annually. Satellite imagery provides previously unattainable data about factors related to NCDs that overcome limitations of traditional, non-satellite-derived environmental data, such as subjectivity and requirements of a smaller geographic area of focus. This systematic literature review determined how satellite imagery has been used to address the top NCDs in the world, including cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes.

Objective: To examine hospices’ approaches to improving the current racial/ethnic hospice utilisation disparity.

Methods: During June and July 2020, we conducted in-depth, semistructured interviews with 22 hospice leaders from across the USA. The interviews focused on inclusive strategy approaches. We analysed the data using qualitative methods.

Results: Multiple themes emerged about racial/ ethnic minority inclusion strategies: (1) hospices tailor strategies to the local communities they serve; (2) improvement involves addressing social determinants of health that extend beyond end-of-life care; (3) costs of strategies are not a primary concern and the benefits are worth the costs; and (4) hospices want to …

Black women have disproportionately alarming HSV-2 infection rates yet receive little attention in sexual health literature. Using a strengths-based resilience framework, this study sought to determine culturally relevant protective predictors of self-esteem for Black women who are justice-involved and have HSV-2. The authors conducted secondary data analysis on data from the “Black Women in the Study of Epidemics (B-WISE) Project,” a longitudinal prospective study investigating health disparities and health services utilization among Black women with justice involvement. It is categorized depending on the immature cells that proliferate and replace the normal tissue in the bone marrow. The broad categories are acute myeloid leukaemia if the immature cells are myeloblasts and acute lymphoid leukaemia if lymphoblasts.
