This article describes the design, curriculum, culture, and values of an experiment in transpersonal education for young adolescents, the Millennium middle school in San Francisco, CA. The overarching design of the school was to help children exiting the latency period of child development, who exhibit the rudiments of Wade’s Authentic consciousness or Maslow’s Self-actualization motive stage, consolidate that level rather than losing it, as the vast majority do, because of social pressures that make earlier stages of development more adaptable in most contemporary societies. Arguably transpersonal education is still in its infancy in relation to defining the area and from this, implementing into practice. While broad themes exist, such themes tend to apply to graduate or postgraduate education. The purpose of this article is to revisit definitions of transpersonal education in relation to compulsory schooling (elementary school through to the end of secondary school). From this, a series of principles and practices have been identified and presented to educators and students for validation purposes. This article addresses the “why,” “what,” and “how” of teaching for transpersonal learning. Why transpersonal education is relevant for addressing modern social problems and the global ecological crisis, what it is like to teach for transpersonal learning, and how transpersonal learning becomes transformative are discussed. Three promising options in technology and consciousness studies for transpersonal learning—transpersonal media, multistate studies, and entheogenic education—are described and the challenges of introducing transpersonal education into academic settings and assessing educational (student) learning outcomes are reviewed. Patients who have had near-death experiences are often profoundly changed by the event, and they and their families can find these phenomena bewildering or even distubing. Despite this, awareness of near-death experiences appears to be minimal among health care providers in India. This cross-sectional study was conducted with 100 individuals who attend patients at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi, Kerala, India, and with 100 physicians at the same institution. Background: Preoperative anesthesia evaluations of elective procedures are important to anesthesia care and imperative to prevent postoperative complications and unnecessary surgical cancellations¹. Triaging cases are complex, requiring clinical skills to facilitate the process. Triaging is cumbersome and, in most organizations, done manually. In 2021, our healthcare institution transitioned to EPIC² and formed a team of anesthesiologists, surgeons, informaticists, and EPIC analysts to automate the triage process which was nonexistent.

Research supports that empathy enhances caregiver well-being. Significance: Caregiver burden can lead to burnout, negatively affecting care quality. Breastfeeding is widely acknowledged for its significant benefits for mother and child. Despite the many advantages for breastfeeding, disparities in breastfeeding rates persist, particularly among non-Hispanic Black women in Montgomery County, OH. Rates for babies born in 2020 were low for those who were ‘ever’ breastfed (NH-Black 68.8% vs white 76.6% for ‘ever’ breastfed at hospital discharge) and even lower for those who were exclusively breastfed (NH-Black 38.2% vs. NH-white 57.9% exclusively breastfed at hospital discharge).1 Ohio's breastfeeding initiation rate remains among the lowest in the nation ranking 41st out of 50 states and falling short of the Healthy People …

From Stress To Social Context: Examining The Drivers Of Excessive Drinking, Esha Kulkarni, Rudra Gandhi

Investigating different variables and the impact they have on excessive drinking can help us enhance our population’s overall quality of life. Our research examined key variables, including social associations, unemployment, education level, rural residency, mental health, physical distress, and access to mental health providers.
In Ohio, excessive drinking rates increased significantly between 2016 and 2023, coinciding with a decline in social association rates. A moderate positive correlation was identified between excessive drinking and educational attainment (r = .480, p < .001), suggesting increased alcohol use in more educated populations. Unexpectedly, a weak negative correlation emerged between unemployment and excessive drinking, challenging conventional assumptions. Additionally, the prevalence of frequent poor mental health in Ohio rose remarkably between 2016 and 2023, underscoring the growing burden of mental health challenges. Interestingly, no significant correlations were found between excessive drinking and rural residency or the availability of mental health providers. Lastly, a significant 37% of the variance in excessive drinking was explained by frequent physical distress, highlighting alcohol's potential role as a coping mechanism.

Objective: Previous studies have shown a correlation between rates of uninsurance and worse health outcomes. However, the efficacy of utilizing uninsurance rates as a marker for community health has not been clearly shown. Therefore, this study investigates how rates of uninsurance in Ohio correlate with worse health outcomes, as well as how Ohio counties utilize health insurance.
Methods: County Health Rankings was used look at rates of uninsurance among adults and children in Ohio along with diabetes prevalence, preventable hospitalizations, and premature death.
