BACKGROUND: Anemia among women of reproductive age has remained highly prevalent globally. Intravenous (IV) iron is well tolerated and proven effective for treating postpartum iron deficiency anemia in high-income countries, but evidence from LMICs, where oral iron is standard treatment, is limited. The PRIORITY trial will test the effectiveness of IV iron compared to oral iron for postpartum women with moderate anemia in eight LMIC sites. Lysosomal storage disorders (LSD) are a group of inherited metabolic diseases that contribute to nonimmune hydrops fetalis (NIHF). Our objective was to review the pooled exome sequencing (ES) diagnostic yield of LSD in NIHF cases. We expanded our previous meta-analysis and updated our search strategy of prenatal ES studies from 1/1/2000 to 8/1/2024. Cases with LSD gene variants were reviewed. Variants were curated based on the current American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics and ClinGen guidelines. Forty-one ES studies met our inclusion criteria. Background/Objectives: Dopamine partial agonists are drugs initially developed to treat schizophrenia, seeking a double effect of increased dopaminergic transmission in the prefrontal cortex and decrease in the accumbens/striatum. Of these drugs, aripiprazole, brexpiprazole, and cariprazine are currently marketed and used in schizophrenia spectrum and mood disorders. Sustained viability, migration, and invasion are essential cellular properties for embryonic extravillous trophoblasts to execute their roles in placental development and function, while derailment of these cellular processes is linked to placental disorders. Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a rare, life-threatening complication of pregnancy in which a hypercoagulable state develops secondary to the contact of tissue factor with circulating blood and causes widespread abnormal clotting. This pathological process disrupts normal blood flow, which can cause multi-organ dysfunction and is associated with very high maternal morbidity and mortality. Objective: To examine rates of postpartum hemorrhagic (PPH) morbidity among patients who did and did not have immediate skin-to-skin contact (SSC).

Methods: This study was a retrospective cohort of all non-anomalous, term singleton vaginal births at a Level IV center over 2 years. Exclusion criteria included COVID-19. Immediate SSC was defined as at least 60 min of direct contact initiated between parturient and neonate within 10 min of birth. Background:Toxoplasma gondii, an obligate intracellular protozoan, infects more than one-third of the global population and causes toxoplasmosis, which can lead to severe fetal complications in pregnant women. The global prevalence of latent toxoplasmosis in pregnant women is 33.8%, with regional variations and risk factors, including the consumption of undercooked meat, exposure to cat feces, and consumption of contaminated water. Objectives: Evaluate associations between maternal perceived stress and depressive symptoms, and fetal body composition and organ volumes.

Methods: In the NICHD Fetal 3D Study (2015-2019; n = 2457), stress and depressive symptoms were assessed at enrollment (10-13 weeks). High stress was defined as a Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) score ≥15 and high depressive symptoms, defined as an Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) score ≥10. Evidence regarding antibiotic exposure during early pregnancy and risk of congenital malformations is limited and inconsistent.

DESIGN: Pilot prospective cohort study.

SETTING: Academic Medical Center.

SUBJECTS: One hundred eighty-three women desiring pregnancy were recruited from the local community of an academic medical center located in the Midwest and provided sleep information between February 1, 2015, and November 30, 2017.

EXPOSURE: Sleep and activity data were obtained via actigraphy watches worn continuously for 2 weeks to assess measures of chronodisruption, including sleep period onset, offset, midtime, and duration; as well as variability in each of these measures.

In a translationally relevant ovine model of gestational hyperandrogenism we have previously reported cardiometabolic disruption in female offspring (males were not extensively studied). We hypothesized that gestational hyperandrogenism would lead to sex-specific disruption in offspring's growth, cytokine and metabolic milieu, potential mediators of cardiometabolic disease (CMD). 100 mg Testosterone propionate (T) or vehicle (C) was administered intramuscularly twice weekly between gestational days (GD) 30-90. Maternal morbidity and mortality remain significant public health concerns in the United States, but particularly in Mississippi, which has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the country. This study analyzes data from the Mississippi Poison Control Center (MPCC) from January 2020 through December 2024 to assess trends in exposures among pregnant women. A total of 168 cases were identified. Exposures were categorized as unintentional, intentional, adverse reactions, or unknown, with unintentional exposures (47.6%) being the most common, often due to medication misuse. Intentional exposures, often linked to suspected self harm (31.5% of cases), represented 39.9% of the total. …

Introduction: Teenage pregnancy remains a critical global health issue, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The intergenerational transmission of teenage pregnancy underscores the need for targeted interventions. Existing research on intergenerational approaches is fragmented, with varying methodologies and outcomes. This scoping review seeks to address this gap by answering the following research questions: What are the available intergenerational interventions for teenage pregnancy, and what are the associated risks and protective factors for early and late teenage pregnancy?

BACKGROUND: Amino acids (AAs) during pregnancy are crucial for fetal growth. Prior studies measured AA concentrations at single time points in pregnancy, despite their fluctuations throughout pregnancy. We measured plasma AA profiles in blood samples longitudinally collected from early through late pregnancy and evaluated their associations with neonatal anthropometry.

METHODS: Concentrations of plasma aromatic AAs, branched-chain AAs, and AAs involved in one-carbon metabolism were assessed at 10-14, 15-26, 23-31, and 33-39 gestational weeks (GW) among 321 women from a case-control study from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) Fetal Growth Studies-Singleton Cohort. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a polymicrobial condition of the vaginal microbiota associated with a variety of sexually transmitted infections, infections of maternal and fetal tissues during pregnancy, and even some infections outside of the reproductive tract, including the urinary tract and mouth. BV has also been associated with conditions in which the body generates prominent inflammatory reactions to microbes, including infections of the cervix and other upper genital tract tissues. For reasons still not understood, BV is a highly recurrent and often difficult-to-treat condition, complicating attempts to prevent these associated infections.
