Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The present work was carried out on twenty-five goats to study the anatomy and sonar as well as Doppler vascular perfusion of kidney in the goat. The ultrasonographic scanning of goat's kidney appeared its cortex oriented as a homogenous hypoechoic area while the medullary pyramids are presented as hypoechoic-anechoic areas deeper than the cortex. The arterial supply of the kidneys of the goat was supplied by the right and the left renal arteries. The renal artery gives accessory renal artery then passing for dividing into the dorsal and the ventral renal branches. Both branches detache the caudal dorsal, caudal dorsal …
An Analysis Of Taste Neuron Morphological Variability: Influences Of Neuron Type And Plasticity., Lisa Christina Ohman
An Analysis Of Taste Neuron Morphological Variability: Influences Of Neuron Type And Plasticity., Lisa Christina Ohman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Taste neurons are functionally and molecularly diverse, but their morphological diversity was, until recently, completely unexplored. Taste neurons were considered relay cells, communicating information from taste-transducing cells to the brain without variation in morphology. Instead, individual taste neurons are tremendously morphologically variable. To determine how differences in branching relate to the number and types of taste-transducing cells providing neuronal input, I combined sparse cell genetic labeling with a whole-mount immunohistochemistry and analysis workflow. I found that the maximum number of taste-transducing cells capable of providing convergent input onto individual gustatory neurons varied with a range of 1-22 taste-transducing cells. Consistently, …

BACKGROUND: Information learned over a longer period of time has been shown to result in better long-term knowledge retention than information learned over a shorter period of time. In order to address multiple curricular goals, the timing and spacing of anatomy content within the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at our institution recently changed from a very spaced to a very compressed format. The purpose of the present study was to assess differences in anatomy knowledge retention that might have been impacted by this change. The research hypothesis was that students receiving spaced instruction would have significantly better anatomy …

Incidental Finding Of Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return Of The Left Upper Lobe, A Rare Anatomical Variation, Anika Dutta, Loren Zuiderveld
Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews
Partial anomalous pulmonary venous return (PAPVR) is a rare congenital abnormality in which 1 to 3 of the pulmonary veins connect to the right atrium rather than the left atrium. In this synthesis of the literature on PAPVR of the left upper lobe, we attempt to illustrate this clinical entity using a case detected incidentally on chest computed tomography, explain the anatomical aspects of this anomaly, and summarize the reported incidence and etiology of left-sided PAPVR. Lastly, differential diagnoses, clinical relevance, and management of left-sided PAPVR are presented. The identification of this variant is important, as it may have serious …
The Chevron Capitate-Trapezoid Joint: A Case Report, Dean W. Smith
The Chevron Capitate-Trapezoid Joint: A Case Report, Dean W. Smith
Western Journal of Orthopaedics
Anatomical variations to the human skeletal system are common and frequently reported in the literature. The structures around the hand and wrist are no exception, and these variations can affect ligaments, tendons, muscles, nerves, arteries, joints, and bone morphology. Musculoskeletal health care providers must be familiar with normal, individual variations when encountered during patient care and diagnostic imaging. In some instances, morphological variations have resulted in differences in kinematics, while others have been found in association with certain medical conditions. We discuss an unusual variation of the capitate-trapezoid joint. To the best of our knowledge, no prior studies have previously …

The Coumadin Ridge: Incidental Finding Mimicking Thrombus On Echocardiogram, Keith Brown Jr., Matthew Everwine, Keith R. Anacker, Jose Nieves
Rowan-Virtua Research Day
The left atrial ridge or “coumadin ridge” is a cardiac anatomic structure located between the left pulmonary vein and the orfice of the left atrial appendage. Historically, patients were misdiagnosed with intra-atrial thrombus and were incorrectly placed on anticoagulation with warfarin, ultimately acquiring the name of the “coumadin ridge”. Fortunately this anatomical variant is now more commonly recognized, however when improperly identified can lead to unnecessary testing, cost, diagnosis anxiety, and inappropriate treatment for the patient. This purpose of this case is to bring awareness to this common clinical dilemma in an attempt to reduce ambiguity and unnecessary workups surrounding …

Computational Medicine Center Faculty Papers
Vagal stimulation is emerging as the next frontier in bioelectronic medicine to modulate peripheral organ health and treat disease. The neuronal molecular phenotypes in the dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus (DMV) remain largely unexplored, limiting the potential for harnessing the DMV plasticity for therapeutic interventions. We developed a mesoscale single-cell transcriptomics data from hundreds of DMV neurons under homeostasis and following physiological perturbations. Our results revealed that homeostatic DMV neuronal states can be organized into distinguishable input-output signal processing units. Remote ischemic preconditioning induced a distinctive shift in the neuronal states toward diminishing the role of inhibitory inputs, with …

Death, Discipline, And The Dead: Biopolitical Rhetoric In Early Modern English Texts, Leslie Raybuck Malland
Death, Discipline, And The Dead: Biopolitical Rhetoric In Early Modern English Texts, Leslie Raybuck Malland
Theses and Dissertations--English
Death, Discipline, and the Dead: Biopolitical Rhetoric in Early Modern English Texts locates allusions to the biopolitical culture of Early Modern England within popular English texts. Through my examination of the period’s fascination with death—public executions, newly-authorized anatomies—and the ways in which death, as well as the treatment of the dead, was authorized by and supported the ideological aims of the state, my research identifies how those themes carry over into the most popular works of the day, reviewing instances of both verbal and nonverbal rhetoric across genres to find allusions to biopower — or, state control of the biological. …
