Purpose: Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcomas (UPSs) demonstrate therapy-induced hemosiderin deposition, granulation tissue formation, fibrosis, and calcification. We aimed to determine the treatment-assessment value of morphologic tumoral hemorrhage patterns and first- and high-order radiomic features extracted from contrast-enhanced susceptibility-weighted imaging (CE-SWI).

Introduction: Perioperative immunotherapy has shown promise in some patients with early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study examined tissue and imaging biomarkers associated with pathologic response in a phase II clinical trial in patients with resectable HCC.

Methods: Analysis included 18 patients with biopsy-proven resectable HCC treated with neoadjuvant nivolumab plus ipilimumab or nivolumab alone in a phase II clinical trial at MD Anderson Cancer Center (NCT03222076). Objectives: Duplicate patient records can increase costs and medical errors. We assessed the association between demographic factors, comorbidities, health care usage, and duplicate electronic health records.

Methods: We analyzed the association between duplicate patient records and multiple demographic variables (race, Hispanic ethnicity, sex, and age) as well as the Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), number of diagnoses, and number of health care encounters. The study population included 3,018,413 patients seen at a large urban academic medical center with at least one recorded diagnosis. Duplication of patient medical records was determined by using a previously validated enterprise Master Person Index.

High-grade B-cell lymphoma not otherwise specified (HGBCL, NOS) has overlapping morphological and genetic features with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and Burkitt lymphoma (BL), leading to uncertainty in its diagnosis and clinical management. Using functional genomic approaches, we previously characterized HGBCL and NOS, that demonstrate gene expression profiling (GEP), and genetic signatures similar to BL. Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) development is characterized by an altered DNA methylation landscape, which presents a promising area for developing MPNST-specific biomarkers for screening patients with NF1. Genome-wide DNA methylation profiling of a cohort of 13 patients with MPNST (29 samples of tumor and adjacent neurofibroma tissues) and of NF1-MPNST cell lines was performed to identify and validate candidate MPNST-specific CpG sites (CpGs). Purpose: Neurotrophic tropomyosin receptor kinase (NTRK) fusions may act as an oncogenic driver in thyroid carcinomas. Given their low frequency, clinical, pathological, and molecular data on these patients and their responses to targeted therapies are limited.

Objective: This study investigates the incidence and causes of diagnostic changes from primary open-angle glaucoma suspect (POAGS) to primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), and vice versa, in clinical practice.

Design: This is a retrospective, single-site, case-control study.

Participants: It includes patients > 40 years of age diagnosed with either POAG or POAGS between 2013 and 2020. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive breast cancer subtype associated with limited targeted treatment options, heterogeneous treatment response, and high risk of early recurrence. Artificial intelligence (AI) has rapidly emerged as a powerful tool to address key clinical challenges in TNBC across diagnosis, treatment response assessment, and prognosis. This study examined racial and geographic disparities in breast cancer detection modalities (screening-, diagnostic-, or non-mammography) with cancer stage and mortality. A retrospective cohort study was conducted using Texas Cancer Registry-Medicare linkage data for geriatric women. Cancers detected through screening and diagnostic mammography had 43 % (95 % CI, 39 %-46 %, p < .0001) and 31 % (95 % CI, 27 %-35 %, p < .0001) lower all-cause mortality, and 49 % (95 % CI, 41 %-54 %, p < .0001) and 37 % (95 % CI, 32 %-43 %, p < .0001) lower cancer-specific mortality, respectively, compared to non-mammography-detected breast cancers. Patients from rural areas were 17 % (95 % CI, 1.06 - 1.29) more likely to be diagnosed with mid- (p = .0023) and advanced stage (p = .003) cancers compared to their urban counterparts. Racial or geographic disparities in cancer detection modalities with associated mortality no longer exist after adjusting for covariates. Healthcare professionals can leverage these findings to promote rural cancer health equity.

Background: The aim of this study is to characterize the patterns of loco-regional progression (LRP) and outcomes after definitive-dose intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) with macroscopic neck disease at the time of IMRT.

Methods: Disease/treatment characteristics and outcomes for patients with unresected or incompletely resected ATC who received IMRT (≥45 Gy) were retrospectively reviewed. For those with LRP after IMRT, progressive/recurrent gross tumor volumes (rGTV) were contoured on diagnostic CTs and co-registered with initial planning CTs using deformable image registration. rGTVs were classified based on established spatial/dosimetric criteria.

Background: Dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS) is one of the most common types of soft tissue sarcoma (STS) characterized by liposarcomatous differentiation and a predilection for the retroperitoneum. Background: Elevated lipoprotein(a) (Lp[a]) is the most common inherited dyslipidemia that is independently and causally associated with increased atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk. However, data from diverse populations with ASCVD are lacking.

Objective: To evaluate Lp(a) levels in a diverse, contemporary United States (US) population with ASCVD, stratified by race, ethnicity, and sex.

Objective: Autoimmune or inflammatory rheumatic diseases (AIRDs) increase the risk for poor COVID-19 outcomes. Although rurality is associated with higher post-COVID-19 mortality in the general population, whether rurality elevates this risk among people with AIRD is unknown. Introduction: The U.S. Study to Protect Brain Health Through Lifestyle Intervention to Reduce Risk (U.S. POINTER) is evaluating lifestyle interventions in older adults at risk for cognitive decline and dementia. Here we characterize the baseline data set of the POINTER Imaging ancillary study.

Methods: Participants underwent health and cognitive assessments and neuroimaging with multimodal positron emission tomography (PET) (beta-amyloid [Aβ] and tau) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Framingham risk score (FRS) was used to quantify cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk.

Introduction/objectives: Diabetes increases the risk of complications, especially for vulnerable populations. Our previous randomized clinical trial (RCT), TIME (Telehealth-supported, Integrated Community Health Workers (CHWs), Medication access, group visit Education), showed the efficacy of CHW-led diabetes care. This study aimed to gather data on transitioning TIME from clinical trials to practical implementation.

Methods: We conducted a 12-month RCT at a nonprofit community clinic using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR). Objective: Parotid gland neoplasms account for a large proportion of benign salivary gland tumors, with pleomorphic adenomas (PA) being the most common in the civilian population, followed by Warthin's tumor (WT). However, the distinct risk profiles of Veterans significantly influence the incidence and prevalence of salivary gland neoplasms. We investigated the diagnostic and management algorithms for benign parotid gland neoplasms in Veterans.

Aim: Determine the follow-up rate for patients referred following an abnormal teleretinal imaging (TRI) screening and examine patient characteristics predictive of follow-up nonadherence.

Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study of patients screened between August 2014 and July 2016 in the Harris Health System (HHS) in Houston, TX. All diabetic patients referred for in-person examination, who had data for all study variables, and who did not have established ophthalmic care in the HHS within the previous 2 years were included. Background: Chylomicronemia is characterized by fasting triglyceride (TG) ≥1000 mg/dL; its longitudinal course is not well studied.

Methods: Using National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data (1999-2018; n = 21,998), we determined chylomicronemia prevalence and temporal trend. Using Mayo Clinic data (4,524,506 TG measurements for 1,294,044 individuals), we studied the longitudinal course and ascertained persistent chylomicronemia (PC), defined as TG ≥1000 mg/dL in more than half the measurements for individuals with ≥3 measurements. We used logistic regression to assess factors associated with PC.

Introduction: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is common in persons with kidney failure on hemodialysis. In the general population, higher intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) levels were found to be associated with presence of AF. Whether iPTH associates with AF in patients on hemodialysis is unknown.

Methods: Using merged USRDS-DaVita data (2006-2011), we selected persons aged 67+ years who initiated hemodialysis and survived 120 days. Eligible persons had continuous Medicare A + B coverage from 2 years prior to kidney failure and no diagnosis of AF. BACKGROUND: Neurotechnologies often advance through industry-academia (IA) partnerships and offer insight into brain and nervous system functions, bringing improved diagnosis and treatment options to patients. Both neurotechnology and IA partnerships pose ethical challenges that can impact research participation experiences, patient treatment, and health outcomes.

METHODS: Investigators conducted interviews with 16 patients who used neurotechnology devices in therapeutic or research settings. Interviews explored participants' experiences using neurotechnology, perspectives on IA partnerships, preferences for neural data use and long-term care, and advice for future neurotechnology device users. Data were analyzed using inductive thematic analysis.

Background: In this pre- and post-intervention quality improvement (QI) study, the impact of an electronic medical record (EMR) order set for Helicobacter pylori treatment was assessed. We evaluated changes in optimal treatment regimen usage, eradication testing, and successful eradication rates based on the intervention.

Materials and methods: Data were collected from patients within the Harris Health System (Houston, TX) with H. pylori infection. The pre-intervention cohort included patients with a positive H. pylori test from January to February 2022.
