Health disparities in maternal health are a significant challenge to the public health of the United States, and Black women have double the morbidity and mortality rates of maternal illnesses in comparison with White women. These inequalities persist across socioeconomic levels, highlighting systemic inequities within the healthcare system. Some published studies have focused on quantitative outcomes, but few have examined Black women's lived experiences and their impact on pregnancy outcomes. This paper fills this gap by discussing the maternity care experiences of Black women in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Objective
Vaccination is crucial to college student health, but quantitative analyses of barriers in this population are limited. The present study expands the work of Su and Chen to determine the relative influence of structural, psychological, and social vaccination barriers.

Participants
Participants were 650 students from a large, midwestern university during the 2024 vaccination season.

Methods
Participants were recruited from a college campus and randomized to respond to items assessing their barriers to, intentions to receive, and uptake of the COVID-19 or influenza vaccination.

Background: The optimal protocol for intermittent androgen deprivation therapy (IAD) in managing biochemical recurrence (BCR) and persistent prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels after radical prostatectomy (RP) remains undefined. This study aimed to introduce a novel IAD protocol, conduct an initial assessment of the protocol’s effectiveness in real-world settings, and develop a risk-based model to identify patients most likely to benefit from this approach. Methods: This study included 175 post-RP patients receiving IAD, with a median follow-up of 44.77 months [interquartile range (IQR), 31.87–69.50 months] post-androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). Alzheimer's disease (AD) accounts for 60-80% of all dementia cases. Recent advances in diagnostic biomarkers of early symptomatic AD (ie, mild cognitive impairment and mild dementia due to AD) and amyloid-targeting therapies (ATTs) have the potential to improve outcomes for patients with AD. Two ATTs (donanemab and lecanemab) are currently approved and available for use in the US. Both ATTs can slow disease progression as well as cognitive and functional decline in patients with early symptomatic AD. Treatment with ATTs is associated with specific safety concerns such as amyloid-related imaging abnormalities. Therefore, the benefit versus risk profile needs to be …

CT radiomics-based machine learning has potential to predict lung cancer in pulmonary nodules (PNs) earlier than standard-of-care methods. Low malignancy rates in early-development PNs and variable image acquisition hinder development of radiomic models for diagnosing these PNs. To address these challenges, we augmented training using later-development PNs and harmonized for acquisition effects. We examine early-development benign and malignant PNs (n = 106) below the sensitivity of standard-of-care diagnosis. Classifiers predicting malignancy performed near chance when trained on ComBat-harmonized radiomic features from only early-development PNs. ABSTRACT

Background: There was a lack of documentation of endotracheal tube (ETT) cuff pressures (CPs) by flight crew providers at Base 1 of HealthNet Aeromedical Services. A three-month pre-intervention data collection showed 1.8% of patients had initial CPs documented. Inadequate documentation and monitoring of ETT CPs can lead to patient complications such as tracheal injury and aspiration making this an important area for quality improvement.

Purpose: To increase documentation of ETT CPs through education and evidence-based interventions.

Introduction: Operating room debriefing is an evidence-based strategy shown to improve communication, efficiency, patient safety, and safety culture; however, debriefing is inconsistently performed in obstetric operating rooms due to workflow, cultural, and time-related barriers.

Purpose: The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was to increase the frequency of debriefings in the Birthing Center operating rooms at WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital through implementation of a nurse-driven, evidence-based debriefing initiative.

Introduction: Excessive noise in the operating room negatively impacts patient comfort and outcomes, particularly in patients undergoing spinal anesthesia who have the potential for awareness.

Background: Research demonstrates that music therapy is a low-cost, low-risk intervention that reduces perioperative anxiety and sedative requirements. Literature supports the use of music as an adjunct to anesthesia care, especially in orthopedic populations.

Purpose: At J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, orthopedic procedures with regional anesthesia expose patients to high noise levels, often leading to increased anxiety, sedation use, and longer recovery times. Addressing this problem aligns with institution goals for safe, patient-centered care.

Electrons in matter can rearrange extremely quickly under external perturbations, underpinning subsequent structural and chemical transformations. Coulomb interactions between neighbouring electrons often shape this response, giving rise to correlated motion and strongly affecting the distribution of electrons in the system. Here we show that non-resonant hard X-ray scattering can directly access changes in the radial electron-pair density during the rapid rearrangement of core and valence electrons. We do this by studying sulfur hexafluoride molecules undergoing Auger–Meitner decay. Background: Pressure ulcers are a significant concern for hospitalized patients, leading to various complications and increased medical costs. Despite common preventative interventions, pressure ulcer rates remain elevated. The prevalence of pressure ulcers contributes to patient suffering, extended hospital stays, increased healthcare expenses, and even fatalities. This emphasizes the critical need for additional prevention strategies. The reported increase in pressure ulcer injuries among spinal cord injury patients in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), along with 7E and 8NE step-down units, at a large academic hospital highlights the pressing issue.
