Exploring Chatgpt’S Clinical Ethics Ability: A Pilot Study, Daniel Jenkins, Christian Vercler, Andrew Barnosky, Janice Firn
Journal of Health Ethics
Background: Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly public models like ChatGPT, has revolutionized the generation of human-like thought processes and text. Across healthcare, the integration of AI in decision-making processes is increasingly pervasive. However, the application of AI in ethical decision-making remains relatively unexplored.
Methods: Ethics consultation notes from a tertiary academic medical center were de-identified. We trained ChatGPT using three separate ‘chats’ with one, two, or five unique notes and asked it to produce an ethical analysis/discussion and recommendations for a test case. We conducted this same series again but gave ChatGPT only the ethical analysis/discussion and recommendation sections from the …

Increased Risks Of Maternal Mental Health Conditions Following Covid-19 Pandemic, Anita Zhou, Allison Zetterman, Megan Ott, Colman Freel, Kayla Adams, Charmayne R. Adams
Office of Health Promotion Scholarship
Background: Women are at an increased risk of developing psychiatric conditions such as anxiety and depression during pregnancy. Psychiatric conditions during pregnancy can put mothers and fetuses at risk of worse physical and mental health before, during, and after the completion of a pregnancy. Previous research indicates that women pregnant during COVID-19 were at a greater risk of developing mental health conditions and being exposed to stressors. While most of the research in the field focuses solely on maternal mental health or interactions between stressors and maternal mental health, little research has been done comparing maternal mental health, demographic variables, …

Hepatic hydrothorax (HH) is a complication of end-stage liver disease involving the accumulation of pleural fluid in patients with cirrhosis, in the absence of other cardiopulmonary disease. HH occurs in 10% of patients with decompensated cirrhosis, conferring a 5-fold increased risk of mortality.1 Alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) and metabolic dysfunction associated steatohepatitis (MASH), which accounts for 80% of liver cirrhosis in the US are known risk factors for HH. 2

The Psychological Impacts Of Algorithmic And Ai-Driven Social Media On Teenagers: A Call To Action, Sunil Arora, Sahil Arora, John Hastings
Research & Publications
This study investigates the meta-issues surrounding social media, which, while theoretically designed to enhance social interactions and improve our social lives by facilitating the sharing of personal experiences and life events, often results in adverse psychological impacts. Our investigation reveals a paradoxical outcome: rather than fostering closer relationships and improving social lives, the algorithms and structures that underlie social media platforms inadvertently contribute to a profound psychological impact on individuals, influencing them in unforeseen ways. This phenomenon is particularly pronounced among teenagers, who are disproportionately affected by curated online personas, peer pressure to present a perfect digital image, and the …

Ethical And Legal Questions With Street Medicine, Gordon Wong
Journal of Health Ethics
The homeless problem has been worsening in the U.S. for many years. Homeless residents have many health issues. Yet their healthcare needs are difficult to be met. To address this problem, the federal government and state governments are encouraging the implementation of Street Medicine programs by providing funding and changing regulations. However, due to the unique characteristics of this population, there are many ethical and legal issues related to delivering care to them. These issues have not been well discussed. This paper attempts to highlight the ethical and legal issues in Street Medicine. The goal is to call the attention …

Advances In Biomedical Research And Treatments: What Is Acceptable?, Michael L. Clancy, Khalid M. Iskandarani, Mitchell C. Mccrea
Journal of Health Ethics
This study investigated the technology acceptance (TA) of twenty-first century biomedical treatments by adults in the United States. A new TA instrument was created, using five distinct levels: (1) Healing and Prevention, (2) Replacement Organs, (3) Enhancements-Medical, (4) Enhancements-Discretionary, and (5) Transhumans. An on-line survey produced 353 usable responses, which showed distinct patterns for each of five biomedical treatment levels. There was clear support for Levels 1–3, but very strong opposition to Levels 4–5. The TA finding draws the line between which human interventions are acceptable versus others that should be prohibited through public policies and medical guidelines.

Labor & Delivery Ebp Project: Reducing Implicit Bias In Nursing As A Way To Decrease Maternal Racial Health Disparities And Improve Outcomes, Julianne Andreades, Robin Illian
Nurse Residency
Introduction/Background:
• Maternal mortality for Black birthing people in the United States is 3X higher than it is for white birthing people (CDC, 2022).
• Racism, including implicit bias, is a driver of these disparities (CDC, 2022).
• Research has shown that clinicians' implicit bias, defined as unconscious attitudes and beliefs that impact behaviors, affects treatment decisions and patient outcomes (Groves et al., 2021 and Siden et al., 2022).

Spot Form Net Blotch And Its Management In Barley, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Grains and other field crops factsheets
Spot form net blotch (SFNB) has become increasingly more common in Western Australia (WA) due to the widespread cultivation of susceptible varieties, such as Spartacus CL and RGT Planet.
These crops generate large amounts of inoculum, which is carried between seasons on infected stubble. Crops grown onto or located close to infected stubble are at greatest risk of infection. The disease can be effectively managed using a combination of varietal selection, crop rotation, and fungicides.

Ophidiomyces Ophidiicola And Texas Snakes: A Field To Bench Study Of Ophidiomycosis, Kenlynn L. Volz
Biology Theses
Ophidiomyces ophidiicola (Oo), the primary cause of Ophidiomycosis, is a fungal pathogen recently detected in Texas snakes. Prior to this study, there were major knowledge gaps regarding Oo growth, spread, and suitable environmental conditions. This study filled those gaps using a field to bench approach involving sampling snakes across Texas, in vitro fungal growth, and ecological niche modeling. 103 snakes were sampled across Texas in 2023 and 2024 and six cases of Oo infection were detected. Results of the growth experiment suggest that Oo prefers more stable temperatures and high humidity to a point and that there is a …
