Introduction

Papua New Guinea (PNG) experiences widespread health inequity and shortage of health professionals, exacerbated by poverty, isolation, gender-based violence and limited infrastructure, transport and accessible services. Nurses and community health workers (CHW) represent 72% of health workforce. However, health professional education programs are outdated and not aligned with national health priorities. We aimed to explore the adequacy of current curricula for nurses and CHWs by examining graduate competencies and preparedness for practice.

Methods

Cross-sectional study with four cohorts: 1) 130 new nurse graduates, 2) 75 nurses who supervised them, 3) 105 new CHW graduates and 4) 65 CHW supervisors. …

Staff Education Project For Adult Icu Nurses, Hani Ayyad

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This staff education project is a crucial initiative designed to enhance nursing knowledge and skills in the care of central lines. Its overarching goal is to reduce the incidence of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) in a teaching hospital. Given that CLABSIs are a major concern in Intensive Care Units (ICUs), due to higher morbidity, mortality, and healthcare expenditures, this project is very important. My goal was to fill these gaps by providing a comprehensive staff education program addressing this critical issue. The evidence-based practice question (EBP) guiding this Doctor of Nursing Project (DNP) project was: Does the Staff Education …

Specialized Contact Sites Regulate The Fusion Of Chlamydial Inclusion Membranes, Christine Linton, Jordan Wesolowski, Anna Lobley, Toshiyuki Yamaji, Kentaro Hanada, Fabienne Paumet

Department of Microbiology and Immunology Faculty Papers

The intracellular bacterial pathogen Chlamydia trachomatis replicates within a membrane-bound compartment called the inclusion. Upon infection with several chlamydiae, each bacterium creates its own inclusion, resulting in multiple inclusions within each host cell. Ultimately, these inclusions fuse together in a process that requires the chlamydial protein IncA. Here, we show that inclusions form unique contact sites (inclusion contact sites, ICSs) prior to fusion, that serve as fusogenic platforms in which specific lipids and chlamydial proteins concentrate. Fusion depends on IncA clustering within ICSs and is regulated by PI(3,4)P2 and sphingolipids. As IncA concentrates within ICSs, its C-terminus likely interacts …
