Height With Age Affects Body Mass Index (Bmi) Assessment Of Chronic Disease Risk, Peter R Holt, Osama Altayar, David H Alpers

Body mass index (BMI) is a function of weight and height, but changing height has not been emphasized. Using the Framingham Heart Study with 5 decades of data on anthropomorphic measurements and disease states, changing height with age was extracted, and BMI was calculated using current and "young" height (calculated as height at age < 40 years). Decreased height began at age 40, with a mean loss from ages 40 to 80 of 4.8 cm for women and 3.6 cm for men. Using cutoff values of 25 and 30 for overweight and obesity, ~12.5% of women and ~10% of men were misclassified. Comparable figures for obesity classification were ~10 and 8%. At age 70, ~20% of women and ~15% of men were misclassified. Using the BMI corrected to "young" height, obese subjects had an increased risk for developing pre-diabetes and diabetes, with a higher risk for women than men. Using corrected BMI, obese subjects had a higher risk for developing hypertension, lower than for diabetes and higher for men than for women. These data do not establish whether the increased disease risk is clinically important but demonstrate that there is an advantage to using BMI corrected for "young" height when compared with BMI using current age-related height.

Purpose/Background:

There is limited research aimed at addressing the reoccurrence of admission rates for first-episode psychosis. Research shows that early interventions for first-episode psychosis lead to remissions and prevention of relapses. Research also estimates that approximately one-half of first-episode clients have a history of cannabis abuse or dependence and one-third have a current cannabis use disorder (Wisdom et al., 2011). This study looks to determine whether Medication-assisted therapy (MAT) impacts readmission rates for patients who have substance use disorder and first-episode psychosis within six months of discharge.

Obesity is distinguished by a body mass index (BMI) greater than 30. Tremmel et al. (2017) reports obese individuals are at a greater risk for developing cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer. Anti-immigrant sentiment and "English-only" ideologies have a significant impact on educational policies, practices, and processes. This includes parental engagement, the quality of education and life opportunities offered to immigrant children, and families’ well-being. Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy (TCM) is known as stress induced cardiomyopathy which may be triggered by emotional or physical stress. It contributes approximately 0.02% of all the hospitalizations in the US. It is acute and reversible cardiomyopathy with transient decrease in ventricular function and unremarkable angiogram. TCM was initially considered to be a benign condition however recent studies have shown that it may be associated with complications and mortality similar to acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Therefore, its early recognition is fundamental in the management of potentially reversible pathology.

Objective This investigation aimed to investigate differences between dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) patients treated with cardiac resynchronization therapy with defibrillator (CRT-D) for tachycardia therapy-related outcomes as well as mortality during follow-up of at least 1 year. Methods Seventy-eight patients with DCM (n=42) and ICM (n=36) with implantation or upgradation to CRT-D were included in this study and analyzed for incidence of non-sustained ventricular tachycardia (NSVT), non-sustained ventricular fibrillation (NSVF), defibrillator therapies, anti-tachycardia pacing (ATP), and mortality. Thrombocytopenia can be seen in about 20-25% of patients with bacterial infective endocarditis (IE). Platelets have a major role in the pathogenesis of endocarditis, and they are also sensitive monitors of systemic host response to bacteremia. Thrombocytopenia on presentation of patients with IE identifies higher risk groups and carries higher mortality risk. The presence of thrombocytopenia is an independent prognosticator of poor outcomes in IE. Adult intussusception is a rare diagnosis that can be caused by non-Hodgkin’s diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). In this case report, we discuss a middle-aged man who presented with non-specific symptoms of intussusception and absence of classic B symptoms. He was found to have intussusception secondary to stage IIIE, CD20 positive DLBCL. The patient underwent small bowel resection with anastomosis, followed by 6 cycles of R-CHOP, which resulted in complete remission of his neoplasm. In reporting this case, we hope to further highlight the role of malignancy in intussusception and guidance on appropriate therapy.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to assess the feasibility of completing a randomized clinical trial (RCT) and examine the preliminary effects of 2 interventions for hip-related groin pain (HRGP).

METHODS: In this pilot RCT, patients with HRGP, who were 18 to 40 years old, were randomized (1:1 ratio) to a joint mobilization (JtMob) group or a movement pattern training (MoveTrain) group. Both treatments included 10 supervised sessions and a home exercise program. The goal of JtMob was to reduce pain and improve mobility through peripherally and centrally mediated pain mechanisms.
