Rates of teen pregnancy among Blacks, Whites, Asians, and other races has decreased; however, the Latino population has not seen similar declining numbers. The Hispanic population currently has the highest rate of teen pregnancy that continues to increase in comparison to any other racial–ethnic group. Isaacs’ syndrome, also known as Acquired Neuromyotonia, is a rare condition caused by continuous firing of the motor units, leading to twitching muscles and cramping that will persist even during sleep. The medical treatment of Isaacs’ syndrome is nondescript and arbitrary. Because of the rare incidence of the disorder, very few studies have been conducted to help determine the appropriate intervention for individuals with this affliction. The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in electrical evoked stapedial reflex thresholds (ESRTs) and electrodes impedance over time in children with MED-EL cochlear implants.

Methods

In this study, 60 kids were included, while 15 kids were excluded because their cases did not fit the requirements. Patients who received MED-EL cochlear implants were monitored postoperatively over 5 years to determine whether or not their ESRT and electrode impedance remained stable.
