Theories of language organization in the brain commonly posit that different regions underlie distinct linguistic mechanisms. However, such theories have been criticized on the grounds that many neuroimaging studies of language processing find similar effects across regions. Many of the molecular and cellular mechanisms discovered to regulate skeletal muscle hypertrophy were first identified using the rodent synergist ablation model. This model reveals the intrinsic capability and necessary pathways of skeletal muscle growth in response to mechanical overload (MOV). Reminiscent of the rapid cellular growth observed with cancer, we hypothesized that in response to MOV, skeletal muscle would undergo metabolic programming to sustain increased demands to support hypertrophy. Pediatric burn survivors experience increased risk for bullying, stigmatization, body image concerns, and problematic social functioning. Although coping behaviors are associated with engagement in social supports and positive self-concept in multiple pediatric illness populations, their relation has not been examined in pediatric burns. This study examined coping in relation to social functioning and self-concept in 51 pediatric burn survivors aged 7–17years (M=12.54; SD=2.65). Survivors and their caregivers completed the Child Coping Strategies Checklist (CCSC; youth report); the Burn Injury Social Questionnaire (BISQ; parent and youth report); and the Piers-Harris Children’s Self-Concept Scale-2 (PH-2; youth report). Anorexia nervosa (AN) is characterised by disrupted and restrictive eating patterns. Recent investigations and meta-analyses have found altered concentrations of inflammatory markers in people with current AN. We aimed to assess nutrient intake in participants with current or recovered AN, as compared to healthy individuals, and explore group differences in dietary inflammatory potential as a possible explanation for the observed alterations in inflammatory markers. Introduction: Nursing mentoring relationships are vital to the advancement of personal and professional growth in nursing. Mentoring has been identified as an effective method to decrease turnover resulting in retention of experienced nurses. Despite the benefits of a mentoring relationship, barriers exist in creating and cultivating a formal mentoring program in the hospital setting.

Methods: A qualitative descriptive study approach that explored nurses’ perceptions of a mentoring culture within a hospital environment. Background: Delays in patient transitions of care are complex and, therefore, a reductionist model of improvement is not likely to produce sustainable results. Exploration of the culture-performance link in the organization has the potential to guide improvement methods aimed at complex, non-linear processes.

Methods: An exploratory, descriptive correlational study was conducted employing the administration of the Hospital Culture of Transitions in Patient Care survey to a cross sectional convenience sample.

Over 80% of adverse events in healthcare are due to miscommunication. To improve patient safety, The Joint Commission recommended the use of standardized hand-off communication tools in 2012. One acute care hospital in Southeast Florida implemented standardized handoff reports in 2014 with few revisions since that time. The COVID-19 pandemic brought to light additional critical information was needed to keep patients and staff safe, such as laboratory results indicating the need for isolation precautions. Chronic kidney disease is a major public health burden. Elevated urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio is a measure of kidney damage, and used to diagnose and stage chronic kidney disease. to extend the knowledge on regulatory mechanisms related to kidney function and disease, we conducted a blood-based epigenome-wide association study for estimated glomerular filtration rate (n = 33,605) and urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (n = 15,068) and detected 69 and seven CpG sites where DNA methylation was associated with the respective trait. The majority of these findings showed directionally consistent associations with the respective clinical outcomes chronic kidney disease and moderately increased albuminuria. …

Elevated serum urate levels, a complex trait and major risk factor for incident gout, are correlated with cardiometabolic traits via incompletely understood mechanisms. DNA methylation in whole blood captures genetic and environmental influences and is assessed in transethnic meta-analysis of epigenome-wide association studies (EWAS) of serum urate (discovery, n = 12,474, replication, n = 5522). The 100 replicated, epigenome-wide significant (p < 1.1E-7) CpGs explain 11.6% of the serum urate variance. At SLC2A9, the serum urate locus with the largest effect in genome-wide association studies (GWAS), five CpGs are associated with SLC2A9 gene expression. Four CpGs at SLC2A9 have significant causal effects on serum urate levels and/or gout, and two of these partly mediate the effects of urate-associated GWAS variants. In other genes, including SLC7A11 and PHGDH, 17 urate-associated CpGs are associated with conditions defining metabolic syndrome, suggesting that these CpGs may represent a blood DNA methylation signature of cardiometabolic risk factors. This study demonstrates that EWAS can provide new insights into GWAS loci and the correlation of serum urate with other complex traits.

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among hypertensive patients. A crosssectional study conducted at Al-Rayan Specialized Hospital, Mukalla, Hadramout during (2/2015 - 4/2016). From 345 patients, 207 were diagnosed as metabolic syndrome (60%), with mean age (57.9±9.2) years was significantly higher than that of patients without the syndrome (44.7±6.6) years (p ˂0.0001). Females with the syndrome were significantly higher than males (67.6% and 32.4% respectively) compared with patients without, (p ˂0.0001). We adduce this case of a very rare intraspinal tumor, an intramedullary epidermoid cyst in a male child of a 3 yearold, which is also a rare age presentation. This tumor was diagnosed through spine magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) examination. The child presented with spastic paraparesis of about three months’ duration. A prospective descriptive study was conducted in Ib-Sina Hospital- Mukalla-Hadhramout To identify the causes and alarming signal of dengue -related deaths during the 2015-2016 dengue outbreak in Mukalla –Hadhramout- Yemen. Deaths due to dengue fever were reviewed from hospital records. Demographic details, clinical features, laboratory findings, and the treatment charts of death cases were reviewed and documented. Recurrent pneumonia in children continues to be a major problem for the pediatricians. The aim of our study was to determine the prevalence and predisposing causes of recurrent pneumonia (RP) in children. This is a prospective hospital-based study. The objectives of this study were to describe the frequency of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), to assess the effectiveness of canal repositioning procedure & its recurrence and to find out the relationship of with osteoporosis and menopause. This was a retrospective study of all patients with BPPV seen in ENT private clinic in Aden over six-years period. The total patients were 400 patients.
