Micrornas As Biomarkers For Predicting Complications Following Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage, Wang-Xia Wang, Joe E. Springer, Kevin W. Hatton
Sanders-Brown Center on Aging Faculty Publications
Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) is a high mortality hemorrhagic stroke that affects nearly 30,000 patients annually in the United States. Approximately 30% of aSAH patients die during initial hospitalization and those who survive often carry poor prognosis with one in five having permanent physical and/or cognitive disabilities. The poor outcome of aSAH can be the result of the initial catastrophic event or due to the many acute or delayed neurological complications, such as cerebral ischemia, hydrocephalus, and re-bleeding. Unfortunately, no effective biomarker exists to predict or diagnose these complications at a clinically relevant time point when neurologic injury can be …

Acute ischemic stroke continues to devastate millions of individuals worldwide. Current treatments work to restore blood flow but not rescue affected tissue. Our goal was to develop a combination of neuroprotective agents administered intra-arterially following recanalization to target ischemic tissue. Using C57Bl/6J male mice, we performed tandem transient ipsilateral middle cerebral/common carotid artery occlusion, followed by immediate intra-arterial pharmacotherapy administration through a standardized protocol. Two pharmacotherapy agents, verapamil and lubeluzole, were selected based on their potential to modulate different aspects of the ischemic cascade; verapamil, a calcium channel blocker, works in an acute fashion blocking L-type calcium channels, whereas lubeluzole, …

The limitation of residual bone height (RBH) and vital structures such as sinuses in the maxillary often make the implant placement procedure becomes complicated. Clinicians may perform sinus elevation prior to implant placement to accommodate the length of the implant fixture. Sinus elevation is an invasive procedure and complication may occur during the surgery including the most frequent complication is perforation of Schneiderian membrane.
Objectives: To discuss a comprehensive management of implant placement and its complication step by step from surgical procedures to crown placement.
Case Report: 67-year-old female patient with partial edentulism in the right maxillary region, presence of …
