Prevalence Of Os Acromiale In An Indigenous East African Population: A Computerized Tomography Scan-Based Study, Mordicai Atinga, Njalalle Baraza, Sarah Wambui, Wachira Joseph Thiong’O, Angela Atinga
General Surgery, East Africa
Background: Failure of fusion to any of the acromion physes at maturity may lead to an os acromiale. A radiological review into the prevalence of os acromiale in an indigenous East African population was performed using computer tomography (CT) imaging. The study aimed to demonstrate a lower prevalence of os acromiale in an urban population compared with cadaveric studies.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study with consecutive sampling. CT scans of both shoulders obtained for non-shoulder pathology were used for the analysis. CT scanning was performed at a tertiary referral hospital from January 2019 to July 2020.

School of Medicine Publications
Background It is unknown whether endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) is cost effective in large ischemic core infarcts.
Methods In the prospective, multicenter, cohort study of imaging selection study (SELECT), large core was defined as computed tomography (CT) ASPECTS(CTP) ischemic core volume (rCBF
Results From 361 patients enrolled in SELECT, 105 had large core on CT or CTP (EVT 62, MM 43). 19 (31%) EVT vs 6 (14%) MM patients achieved modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score 0–2 (OR 3.27, 95% CI 1.11 to 9.62, P=0.03) with a shift towards better mRS (cOR 2.12, 95% CI 1.05 to 4.31, P=0.04). Over the projected …

Between-Site Equivalence Of Turning Speed Assessments Using Inertial Measurement Units, Lucy Parrington, Laurie A. King, Margaret M. Weightman, Carrie W. Hoppes, Mark E. Lester, Leland E. Dibble, Peter C. Fino
Physical Therapy Faculty Publications
Background
Turning is a component of gait that requires planning for movement of multiple body segments and the sophisticated integration of sensory information from the vestibular, visual, and somatosensory systems. These aspects of turning have led to growing interest to quantify turning in clinical populations to characterize deficits or identify disease progression. However, turning may be affected by environmental differences, and the degree to which turning assessments are comparable across research or clinical sites has not yet been evaluated.
Research question
The aim of this study was to determine the extent to which peak turning speeds are equivalent …

The endocervix, the primary site of Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct) infection in women, has a unique repertoire of locally synthesized IgG and secretory IgA (SIgA) with contributions from serum IgG. Here, we assessed the ability of genital and serum-derived IgG and IgA from women with a recent positive Ct test to neutralize Ct elementary bodies (EBs) and inhibit inclusion formation in vitro in human endocervical epithelial cells. We also determined if neutralization was influenced by the major outer membrane protein (MOMP) of the infecting strain, as indicated by ompA gene sequencing and genotyping. At equivalent low concentrations of Ct EB (D/UW-3/Cx …

Assessing Procedural Pain In Infants: A Feasibility Study Evaluating A Point-Of-Care Mobile Solution Based On Automated Facial Analysis, Kreshnik Hoti, Paola Teresa Chivers, Jeffery David Hughes
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
BACKGROUND: The management of procedural pain in infants is suboptimal, in part, compounded by the scarcity of a simple, accurate, and reliable method of assessing such pain. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the PainChek Infant, a point-of-care mobile application that uses automated facial evaluation and analysis in the assessment of procedural pain in infants. METHODS: Video recordings of 40 infants were randomly chosen from a purposely assembled digital library of 410 children undergoing immunisation as part of their standard care in Prishtina, Kosovo, between April 4, 2017, and July 11, 2018. For each infant …
