Introduction: Metformin is a small, non-protein-bound molecule that can cause lactic acidosis in 6 out of 100,000 patients with a mortality rate of 30-50%. Concurrent euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) from sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor has been reported in one case. We report a unique case of a patient with acute kidney injury (AKI) in the setting of metformin-induced lactic acidosis and osmotic diuresis due to euglycemic DKA complicated by celecoxib use. There is limited evidence to support pharmacogenetic (PGx) testing in children. We conducted a retrospective review of PGx testing among 452 patients at an academic children's hospital to determine the potential utility of PGx in diseases of childhood and to identify targets for future pediatric pharmacogenetic research. An actionable gene-drug pair associated with the 28 genes tested (Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC) level A or B, Pharmacogenomics Knowledge Base (PharmGKB) level 1A or B, or US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommendation and a PharmGKB level) was present in 98.7% of patients. Social power research has been limited by theoretical and methodological traditions that prioritize static comparisons of high and low-power states. This is a crucial limitation given power’s inherently dynamic nature. Accordingly, Anicich and Hirsh (2017a) recently developed a theoretical framework related to the consequences of vertical code-switching – i.e., the act of alternating between behavioral patterns directed toward higher-power and lower-power interaction partners – known as the approach-inhibition-avoidance (AIA) theory of power. Problem definition: In 1992, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) instituted the accelerated approval pathway (AP) to allow promising drugs to enter the market based on limited evidence of efficacy, thereby permitting manufacturers to verify true clinical benefits through postmarket studies. However, most postmarket studies have not been completed as promised. We address this noncompliance problem. The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceived factors that occupational and physical therapy graduate students believed led to success in a clinical neuroscience course. A cross-sectional survey design was utilized from a convenience sample of Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students. There were 76 (42%) responses collected, comprised of 62 (82%) OTD students and 14 (18%) DPT students. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze all survey results. Current cancer prevention recommendations advise limiting red meat intake to <500g/week and avoiding consumption of processed meat, but do not differentiate the source of processed meat. We examined the associations of processed meat derived from red vs. non-red meats with cancer risk in a prospective cohort of 26,218 adults who reported dietary intake using the Canadian Diet History Questionnaire. Incidence of cancer was obtained through data linkage with Alberta Cancer Registry with median (IQR) follow-up of 13.3 (5.1) years. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression models were adjusted for covariates and stratified by age and gender. The median (IQR) consumption (g/week) of red meat, processed meat from red meat and processed meat from non-red meat were 267.9 (269.9), 53.6 (83.3), and 11.9 (31.8), respectively. High intakes (4th Quartile) of processed meat from red meat was associated with increased risk of gastro-intestinal cancer Adjusted Hazard Ratio (AHR) (95% CI): 1.68 (1.09-2.57) and colorectal cancers AHR (95% CI): 1.90 (1.12-3.22), respectively in women. No statistically significant associations were observed for intakes of red meat or processed meat from non-red meat. Results suggests that the carcinogenic effect associated with processed meat intake may be limited to processed meat derived from red meats. The findings provide preliminary evidence toward refining cancer prevention recommendations for red and processed meat intake.

Sacubitril/Valsartan (S/V), an angiotensin receptor blocker-neprilysin inhibitor (ARNi), has demonstrated beneficial outcomes in heart failure (HF) patients. Tick-borne parasites (TBPs) in genera Anaplasma, Babesia, and Theileria pose a serious economic threat to small ruminant production. The present study was carried out to examine TBPs from goats and ticks in Thailand using PCR and DNA sequencing. A total of 93 ticks were collected from three provinces and identified as Rhipicephalus microplus. Occupational welding fumes contains varies of toxic metal particles and may affect cardiovascular system like the Particulate Matters (PM). The hypothetical mechanisms of welding fume toxicity center on oxidative stress and inflammatory, similar as the mechanisms that link PM2.5 and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). The popular mechanisms on toxicity of welding fumes agreed that PM was associated with increased WBC and neutrophil counts, and increased WBC counts lead to higher Cardiovascular risks and Coronary heart disease risks.Urine Mn and Cr level in the welder group was significantly higher than the non-welder group (Mn: 0.96 VS 0.22 ug/g creatinine, p < 0.001; Cr: 0.63 VS 0.22 ug/g creatinine, p < 0.01). One third of the non-welders were in the high metal-exposed group. When all the participants were divided by occupation type, two times measurements revealed that Hct, WBC and Eosinophil indices of the welder groups were significantly higher (all p < 0.05). Linear regression models showed that, comparing to non-welders, welding could cause alterations to most hemostatic indices majorly by effecting an increase: Hct (β = 0.015, p = 0.007), WBC (β = 0.047, p = 0.033), Eosinophil ratio % (β = 0.345, p = 0.001). When all the participants were divided by metal level groups, there was bidirectional relationship between urine Mn level and WBC count in the linear regression models ((β = - 0.049, p = 0.045 and β = 0.059, p = 0.007, separately for starting and ending point). The study participants (both welders and non-welders) had an average systolic BP in the “high normal” range (Welders: 125.21 ± 11.23 mmHg for systolic BP Non-welders: mean = 126.33 ± 11.41 mmHg for systolic BP). Systolic blood pressure of the welder group increased significantly higher than the non-welder group after one year follow up (welder group VS non-welder: 4.13 ± 11.76 VS - 0.15 ± 6.60 mmHg, p = 0.037).

Asiatic acid (AA) has neuroprotective properties potential for prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Natural waxes with various ratios of tween 80 and span 80 or soybean lecithin were formulated to obtain AA-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (AA-SLN) in order to improve direct nose to brain transport. Optimal AA-SLN had particle size below 200 nm with uniform size distribution as confirmed by transmission electron microscope (TEM) results and zeta potential of nearly -30 mV indicating low risk on particle aggregation. Asiatic acid (AA), natural triterpene found in Centalla asiatica, possesses polypharmacological properties that can contribute to the treatment and prophylaxis of various diseases. However, its hydrophobic nature and rapid metabolic rate lead to poor bioavailability. The aim of this research is to study nanogel system from hyaluronic acid (HA) for solubilization and stability enhancement of AA. Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (pNIPAM) was conjugated onto HA using carbodiimide reaction followed by 1H NMR characterization. pNIPAM-grafted HA (HA-pNIPAM) nanogels were prepared with three concentrations of polymer, 0.1%, 0.15% and 0.25% w/v in water by sonication method. Importance: The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2019 (GBD 2019) provided systematic estimates of incidence, morbidity, and mortality to inform local and international efforts toward reducing cancer burden. Objective: To estimate cancer burden and trends globally for 204 countries and territories and by Sociodemographic Index (SDI) quintiles from 2010 to 2019. Phelan-McDermid syndrome (PMS) is a rare genetic disorder typically caused by loss or disruption of the distal long arm of chromosome 22. Children with PMS exhibit severe to profound communication deficits, and the majority meet the criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). To date, no language or communication intervention studies focused on children with PMS exist in the literature despite a steady increase in diagnosed cases.
