The Effects Of Teacher Education On Children With Sensory Feeding Difficulties, Heather Eager Apr 2021

The Effects Of Teacher Education On Children With Sensory Feeding Difficulties, Heather Eager

MOT Student Capstones

Background: 3 According to recent studies, there is strong evidence to support the effectiveness for education over feeding therapy interventions and its link to promoting carryover within a client's environments. However, there is limited literature concerning the effects that teacher education over sensory feeding can provide to the pediatric population. This Capstone project was developed to provide evidence-based support for teacher education over this therapeutic concept and the positive outcomes it can have on student's goal progression. Furthermore, when a student's occupational performance is being negatively impacted by feeding aversions and behaviors, he/she is unable to successfully engage in meaningful …

Aquatic Therapy For Subacute Stroke Patients, Meaghan Buchanan Apr 2021

Aquatic Therapy For Subacute Stroke Patients, Meaghan Buchanan

MOT Student Capstones

Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability in the U.S. affecting patients physically and psychologically. A stroke can lead to significant functional deficits, depending on the location of the stroke, and level of rehabilitation. Currently, no rehabilitation protocol exists for stroke patients and often patients reach a plateau during treatment, without reaching their full potential, and with continued deficits that affect functional mobility. Interventions provided in an aquatic environment can promote continued therapeutic outcomes, not possible with land-based therapy. The purpose of this paper is to showcase aquatic therapy as a viable therapeutic intervention and to provide a …

Implementation Of Mental Imagery Training For Upper Extremity Recovery Post-Stroke, Jenna Curcio

MOT Student Capstones

Mental imagery is a powerful tool in upper extremity stroke recovery when used in conjunction with traditional rehabilitative therapies. ft is the process of cognitively visualizing fluid and functional movements of the affected upper extremity during everyday tasks. Substantial research has been conducted regarding the efficacy of this intervention with supported outcome measurement data. Mental imagery training is beneficial because it can be done with minimal set up and completed outside of therapy hours. Neuroplasticity is used to salvage motor pathways for functional return of the limb. This tool is not suitable for every person who has had a stroke, …

United States Public Health Resources

In the midst of resurging COVID-19 cases, the second NIH/FDA virtual COVID-19 and Cytokines symposium was held on 1 December 2020, focusing on longitudinal studies of COVID-19 immunity, including long-term consequences, potential associations with autoimmunity and the multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C).

A central and ongoing quest in COVID-19 research is to establish why and how SARS-CoV-2 elicits heterogeneity in disease severity and immunopathology among infected individuals. Hence, much effort has been exerted to understand the cellular basis of SARS-CoV-2-induced immune responses, with the aim of identifying new biomarkers and prognostic tools and developing new therapeutic options. Cytokines emerged …

Management Of Paediatric Intracranial Ependymoma, Syeda Kubra Kishwar Jafri, Saqib Kamran Bakhshi, Muhammad Shahzad Shamim

Section of Neurosurgery

Intracranial ependymoma are relatively common paediatric brain tumours, but their eloquent location and high recurrence rate pose a significant challenge. Gross total resection or maximum safe resection followed by adjuvant radiotherapy are currently the standard recommended treatment, although there is still nearly 50% recurrence risk at 5 years. Chemotherapy has shown some promising results after recent advances in molecular understanding of ependymomas, but needs further evaluation before it could be added to the treatment regime.

Prone Versus Supine In Mechanically Ventilated Patients, Caroline Nham, Estela Hurd

Spring Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry

The purpose for this project is to determine whether the prone position is the best position for a patient who is being placed on a mechanical ventilator. Our research question is, in mechanically ventilated patients, does the use of the prone position promote better patient outcomes than the supine position? We are comparing recent studies on the benefits and complications that can arise in placing patients in the prone or supine position. We hypothesize that the prone position has greater benefits towards the patient's quality of care. Utilizing the library as a resource, provided us with relevant information related to …

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Fighting the COVID‐19 pandemic requires large numbers of citizens to adopt disease‐preventive practices. We contend that national identification can mobilize and motivate people to engage in preventive behaviors to protect the collective, which in return would heighten national identification further. To test these reciprocal links, we conducted studies in two countries with diverse national tactics toward curbing the pandemic: (1) a two‐wave longitudinal survey in China (Study 1, N = 1200), where a national goal to fight COVID‐19 was clearly set, and (2) a five‐wave longitudinal survey in the United States (Study 2, N = 1001), where the national leader, …
