PPCN pharmacies have been able to successfully collaborate, bi-directionally, with health plan care managers to improve patient health and enable appropriate utilization of healthcare resources

To build off of our early success, additional systems and tracking capabilities are being explored related to the following:

• Bi-directional tracking of referrals
• Care managers to pharmacists
• Pharmacists to care managers
• Delivery drivers as community health workers
• Drug class specific interventions (ex. a focus on opioids)
• Disease state specific interventions (ex. a focus on asthma or type 2 diabetes)
• Formal interventions focused on dialing patients back into the services/resources offered by health plans

Background:
Globally, approximately 14.6% children are born with low birth weight (LBW) annually. In Pakistan, this figure however reaches approximately 16%. Low birth weight infants are vulnerable to develop early morbidities like hypothermia, hypoglycemia, respiratory distress syndrome and hypocalcemia. There is a scarcity of statistics which creates a gap in development of strategies for improving quality of care in developing countries. The aim of our study was to determine the frequency of early morbidities such as respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), hypoglycemia, hypothermia and hypocalcemia in low birth weight neonates.

Permeation Of Ethoxy- And Butoxy- Ethanols Through A Disposable Nitrile Glove, Sean Banaee, Shane S. Que Hee

The purpose of this study was to investigate the permeation of the glycol ethers, 2-ethoxyethanol (2-EE) and 2-butoxyethanol (2-BE) through disposable, nitrile exam gloves using a modified ASTM closed-loop module. The purple unsupported, unlined, powderless nitrile glove from Kimberly-Clark was challenged by the two pure glycol ethers. Their permeation parameters were measured with the aid of a 2.54 cm ASTM F739 closed-loop permeation cell using water collection at 35.0±0.5 ⁰C in a moving tray water bath, and capillary gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for quantification. Each set of experiments consisted of four standard permeation cells with water as the collection solvent. …

BACKGROUND: The incidence of Moyamoya disease (MMD)-associated intracranial aneurysms ranges from 3% to 14% in adult patients, whereas this complication has rarely been reported in children.

CASE DESCRIPTION: We herein report the first case, to our knowledge, of an extremely rare subarachnoid hemorrhage presentation of a child with a ruptured anterior cerebral artery dissecting aneurysm secondary to a newly discovered, unilateral Moyamoya-like pathology.

CONCLUSIONS: MMD-associated aneurysms are extremely rare in children, and hemorrhage may be the initial presentation of the disease. Prompt intervention is essential to exclude the ruptured aneurysm that is at risk of rebleeding because of persistent hemodynamic …

A Pilot Study: Baseline Educational Achievements Of Children Raised By Grandparents In A Kinship Care Program, Mary Lou Lacomb-Davis, Phd, Aprn, Cpnp-Pc, Michael Patton, Msw, Jean Pawl, Phd, Rn, Ocn, Cne

GrandFamilies: The Contemporary Journal of Research, Practice and Policy

This pilot study reports the baseline data of a prospective longitudinal study examining the educational achievements of grandchildren being raised by grandparents in parent absent homes. The baseline data includes 117 grandchildren in grades K-12 in two school districts in a southeastern state. School records reporting 2,230 grades were examined for grade point average (GPA) and attendance for K-12 and conduct in grades K-5. The majority of the grandchildren achieved A/B averages. There were no significant differences between gender, pre-care experiences, placement by welfare agencies or paternal involvement across years of schooling. GPAs were lower in the grandchildren who had …

Electronic Data Capture (EDC) is the process of recording data from a primary data source into a computerized system for improved reliability, security, and convenience. Data stored in EDC systems are used for analysis and, in the case of clinical studies, are an important part of the development pipeline for new drugs and medical devices. This text provides an introduction to data capture and the management of a scientific study using the popular EDC solution REDCap.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are one of the most common knee injuries in female soccer players that require reconstruction and rehabilitation. The incidence rate of autogenous ACL reconstruction (ACLR) complications during surgery are reported as low as 0.2% to 1.7%. There is insufficient information on the most effective rehabilitation protocol for patients with complications during surgery. Many rehabilitation protocols fail to include programs for patients who have general joint laxity. No known studies have reported on the most effective treatment for a patient with generalized laxity and an autograft rupture during surgery. The purpose of this case report was …

The manual transcription of patients’ vital signs often delays entry of critical information to Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. This documentation delay within inpatient settings results in a lack of recent information on patient condition, decreased ability for providers to make clinical decisions, and an increased risk of data error. To alleviate these concerns, hospitals are adopting device interface systems which digitally integrate medical devices and EMRs. Prior studies have found that this type of system integration can potentially reduce the time spent on manual entry of information in the EMR and support other value-added activities in the hospital. This case study investigates business process redesign within the perioperative process as a method to achieve digital transformation. Specific perioperative sub-processes are targeted for re-design and digitalization, which yield improvement. Based on a 184-month longitudinal study of a large 1,157 registered-bed academic medical center, the observed effects are viewed through a lens of information technology (IT) impact on core capabilities and core strategy to yield a digital transformation framework that supports patient-centric improvement across perioperative sub-processes. One key aspect of evidence-based psychological services is monitoring progress to inform treatment decision making, often using a brief self-report measure. However, no such measure exists to support measurement based care given the distinct needs of transgender and gender diverse people (TGD), a group facing large documented health disparities and marginalization in healthcare. The purpose of the present study was to develop and provide initial psychometric validation of a short, behavioral health progress monitoring self-report measure, the Trans Collaborations Clinical Check-in (TC3).
