Background/aim: The aim of this study is to study subclinical platelet activation by detecting three important platelet activation parameters of mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW), and plateletcrit (PCT) in patients with branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) in comparison to those in healthy control subjects.Materials and methods: This prospective study included 43 patients with BRVO (Group 1)and 40 control subjects (Group 2). Background/aim: Measles is one of the important vaccine-preventable diseases with many complications in childhood. This study presents cross-sectional seroepidemiological data, beginning from neonatal cord blood in infants to children under 6 years of age, about waning of measles antibody and tries to suggest the proper time for measles immunization.Materials and methods: A total of 564 blood samples consisting of neonatal cord blood and samples taken from infants and children at ages of 6, 9, 24-48, and 49-72 months were analyzed for measles seropositivity in a period of 6 months. The hemostatic action of ABS depends upon fibrinogen gamma chain, prothrombin, and red blood cells. Background: Conventionalmethods of detecting Brucella spp. suffer from technical and biological complications. Besides, newly characterized species of the genus Brucella could be neglected by previously designed polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests. Background/aim: Oxidative stress contributes to pathophysiological dysfunction in sickle cell anemia (SCA). Copper (Cu) is a prooxidant, whereas zinc (Zn) and selenium (Se) are antioxidant trace elements. This study investigates the serum levels of Cu, Zn, and Se among children with SCA.Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was performed at King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh. Background/aim: Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a clinical, biological, and pathological entity that is rare but has certain morbidity that may be life-threatening. This work aims to establish a focus on the hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis and analyze different aspects of diagnosis while emphasizing the biological data.Materials and methods: We report the results of a retrospective study conducted in the hematology department of Avicenna Hospital in Marrakesh. Background/aim: We aimed to define the effect of tumor size on recurrence and survival rates in patients with stage I?II endometrioid-type endometrial cancer.Materials and methods: A total of 550 patients who had total abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and pelvic-paraaortic lymphadenectomy were included. Background/aim: Changes in collagen metabolism and fibroblastic activity may play a role in the pathogenesis of brucellosis. The prolidase enzyme plays an important role in collagen synthesis. We aimed to investigate the association of prolidase levels with brucellosis.Materials and methods: Serum prolidase levels in 20 patients newly diagnosed with brucellosis were compared with levels in 30 healthy control subjects. This work presents the characterization of a self-powered glucose biosensor using individual sequential assays of human plasma glucose obtained from diabetic patients. The self-powered glucose biosensor is exploited to optimize the assay parameters for sensing plasma glucose levels. In particular, the biofuel cell component of the system at pH 7.4, 37 °C generates a power density directly proportional to plasma glucose and exhibited a maximum power density of 0.462 mW·cm−2 at a cell voltage of 0.213 V in 5 mM plasma glucose. Purpose: The overall aim of this project was to gather information from two groups of stakeholders, providers and patients, on the feasibility of implementing prevention practitioners in the primary care system to address overweight and obesity.

Methods: This study utilized a quantitative descriptive design through the use of electronic surveys. Provider surveys were explained and presented during a monthly provider meeting. Patient flyers were posted in exam rooms and surveys were accessible through a provided link and QR code.

Background: Emergency department (ED) visits for opioid related visits have increased dramatically during the opioid epidemic. Buprenorphine is an evidence-based therapy for treating opioid use disorder (OUD) and withdrawal. Unfortunately, lack of access to pharmacotherapy for OUD, including buprenorphine, remains a challenge. Research supports ED-initiated buprenorphine as a practical, cost-effective strategy which engages patients in treatment better than non-pharmacologic alternatives.

There is significant health risk associated with firearm ownership. To address this risk a primary care-based intervention was designed and implemented to screen for firearm ownership, educate patients on the risks of gun ownership, and provide patients with resources for reducing associated health risks.

Objective: To examine for an association between the occurrence of work­ related trauma injuries in the state of Kentucky and occupational noise exposure.

Methods: Using the Kentucky Trauma Registry, work-related trauma injuries were identified between the years of 2013 and 2017. Subjects were assigned noise scores based on O*NET noise exposure data by occupational industry. Associations between the occurrence of occupationally-related injuries and noise scores were assessed using linear regression analysis.

Results: A total of 1,808 work-related traumatic injuries were identified from the trauma registry over the five years of data reviewed in the study. The majority of occupational injuries …
