Evaluation Of Two Cryopreservation Protocols On Cauda Epididymal Spermatozoa Characteristics In Domestic Cats, Kanokwan Thammapradit, Suppawiwat Ponglowhapan
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Various protocols of feline spermatozoa cryopreservation have been reported and used in clinical practice. To compare the quality of post-thawed epididymal spermatozoa subjected to two different sperm freezing protocols, sperm samples were collected from domestic cats (n=7) after castration and divided into 2 aliquots as for Protocol 1 (P1) or Protocol 2 (P2). In P1, after centrifugation, sperm pellets were extended with Tris-based egg yolk extender (TEY) containing 3% glycerol and held for 60 min (5°C) prior to the second dilution (1:1) with 7% glycerol and 1% Equex STM Paste. The straws were frozen by lowering the goblets in three …

FIV and FeLV infections are mostly studied among clinically sick cats; therefore, results may deviate from the true prevalence in a whole population. By using a commercially available kit, the infections were observed in 216 clinically health client-owned cats in Khon Kaen province, Thailand. A cross-sectioned study was undertaken to estimate the presence of FIV and FeLV infections in the cats which underwent health checkup from October 2016 to January 2017. The prevalence of FIV-antibody positive and FeLV-antigenic cats were 6.1% and 3.1%, respectively, and co-infection was not identified. The updated information provides necessary guidelines for veterinarians to provide preventive …

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) has become a major swine disease worldwide. Relevant management strategies and diagnostic assays are of importance for PRRS virus (PRRSV) control. The objective of this study was to determine the use of oral fluids for PRRSV monitoring in endemically PRRSV-infected herds. PRRSV RNA and PRRSV-specific antibodies were monitored using oral fluid samples and serum samples in two conventional swine farms in Thailand (‘Farm A’, a one-site conventional system farm, and ‘Farm B’, a one-site P0-P1 segregation system farm) during farrowing to nursery periods. Both PRRSV RNA and PRRSV antibodies were detected from 3 to …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Physical exercise is one of the most physiologically stressful stimuli which cause animal to experience reversible alterations in various homeostatic variables. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of gender and jumping exercise on leukocyte, dopamine and prolactin values and the correlation among these parameters in 20 clinically healthy and regularly trained horses. The horses took part in a three-day jumping competition. Blood sampling was performed before the first day of competition (T0), within 10 minutes from the end of each race (J1, J2, J3) and 24 h after the end of J3 race (T24) in order …
The Impact Of Antibiotic Stewardship Education On Parental Care Satisfaction And Follow-Up, Paige Ferguson
The Impact Of Antibiotic Stewardship Education On Parental Care Satisfaction And Follow-Up, Paige Ferguson
DNP Projects
Parental satisfaction with antibiotic stewardship has been investigated extensively in pediatric inpatient settings; however, there has been relatively little research in pediatric outpatient settings. In 2014 upper respiratory infections were the most common infections seen among the general population with children having an average of 3 to 8 viral respiratory illnesses per year and receiving 34.6% of all antibiotic prescriptions. Escalating antibiotic resistance and increased emphasis on patient/parental satisfaction necessitates the exploration of a method to improve antibiotic stewardship while maintaining parental satisfaction. The purpose of this project was to assess parental satisfaction with care and follow-up visits after antibiotic …

Background Despite huge investments in HIV prevention, treatment, and care in sub-Saharan Africa, fewer than one in 10 individuals knows their HIV status, and 40% of individuals living with HIV are not cognisant of their positive status. Efforts to improve and strengthen HIV service delivery, particularly in HIV testing, are necessary to increase efficiency in HIV case finding and optimise service delivery. Standard approaches to HIV testing have not been effective in addressing this gap. Our objective was to evaluate a targeted approach for HIV case identification in a PEPFAR-supported HIV programme in Nigeria. Methods Between October, 2016, and June, …

Occupational Noise Dose Reduction Via Behavior Modification Using In-Ear Dosimetry Among Usaf Personnel Exposed To Continuous Impulse Noise, Jesse A. Trawick
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this research was to investigate the use of in-ear noise dosimetry and worker feedback to reduce noise exposures among combat arms instructors and heavy equipment operators in the Air Force. Specifically, this thesis sought to determine how effectively hearing protection devices (HPDs) are being utilized currently, and whether providing at-ear noise exposure data to workers results in reduced noise exposures or changes in worker attitude. These questions were addressed by performing a six-month field study using dosimeters to record worker noise exposures under HPDs. Subjects served as their own control, receiving feedback in only the latter half …

Background: Hypertension affects 33% of Americans while type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer's disease (AD) affect 10% of Americans, respectively. Ryanodine receptor 3 gene (RYR3) codes for the RYR which functions to release stored endoplasmic reticulum calcium ions (Ca2+) to increase intracellular Ca2+ concentration. Increasing studies demonstrate that altered levels of intracellular Ca2+ affect cardiac contraction, insulin secretion, and neurodegeneration. In this study, we investigated associations of the RYR3 genetic variants with hypertension, AD, and diabetes.
Methods: Family data sets were used to explore association of RYR3 polymorphisms with risk and age at onset (AAO) of hypertension, diabetes, and AD.

Multiple chronic conditions in cancer survivors are highly prevalent and may increase health care costs for both patients and the health care system. Studies of cancer survivors reveal positive effects of physical activity (PA) on reducing risk of cancer recurrence, other chronic conditions, and secondary cancer. Few nationally representative studies have examined how physical activity levels have affected survivors' annual economic burden in the United States.
Leisure-time physical activity data from the National Health Interview Survey was linked to health care expenditure data from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey data (2008–2012). We calculated per-person annual total medical expenditures for identified …

INTRODUCTION Interactive Voice Response (IVR) technology has become an increasingly popular and valid method for collecting Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) data on a variety of health-risk behaviors, including daily alcohol use and cigarette smoking, and for stimulating behavior change. However, very little research has evaluated the parameters of IVR compliance and reactivity in respondents who may have greater problem severity than samples previously examined in published IVR studies. This study examined the prevalence and correlates of use, receptivity and reactivity to IVR monitoring in 77 untreated risky drinking smokers who were motivated to quit within the next 6 months.

UNAIDS 90‐90‐90 targets and Fast‐Track commitments are presented as precursors to ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030, through effecting a 90% reduction in new HIV infections and AIDS‐related deaths from 2010 levels (HIV epidemic control). Botswana, a low to middle‐income country with the third‐highest HIV prevalence, and Australia, a low‐prevalence high‐income country with an epidemic concentrated among men who have sex with men (MSM), have made significant strides towards achieving the UNAIDS 90‐90‐90 targets. These two countries provide lessons for different epidemic settings. This paper discusses the lessons that can be drawn from Botswana and Australia with respect to their …
