The evidence from studies of maternal ambient air pollutant exposure (including O3, fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and PM2.5 metal constituents) and stillbirth is limited and equivocal. There is also limited evidence of the acute effect of temperature increases in the week preceding delivery and stillbirth. Research shows that exposure to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is common among adolescents; however, no studies have examined the prevalence of ACEs in a racially homogenous sample of African-American adolescents. Thus, the present study examined the cumulative and individual prevalence of ACEs in African-American adolescents. Data were collected from African-American adolescents (n = 241) who attended youth events hosted by churches in Houston, TX. An expanded ACEs tool was used to collect data. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, medical records of patients with CLD admitted to the Gastroenterology unit at the Aga Khan University Hospital were reviewed. Empathy, the most important human attribute that matters in every aspect of life, is essential in health care. Provision of patient-centered care requires empathic health care practitioners. The correlation between empathy of health care providers and improved patient adherence, satisfaction, and treatment outcomes is well-established. Scholarly evidence shows positive correlations between empathy and affective domains and confirms that soft skills are grounded in empathy. Empathic students have stronger affective skills and are capable to acquire, develop, reinforce, and display strong affective behaviors, abilities, and attitudes. One rehabilitation protocol effective in delaying the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is Lee Silverman Voice Training BIG (LSVT BIG), comprising pre-gait exercises and gait training. This study seeks to determine if combining Patterned Sensory Enhancement (PSE), a music therapy intervention, with LSVT BIG will improve quality of movement. During physical therapy sessions with three participants, a music therapist adapted the PSE stimuli to support each patient’s motor needs, which were then recorded on CD and sent with patients to exercise with at home. Quality improvement of nursing fall risk assessment was of special interest. A 23-year-old Indian male with infective endocarditis with embolic infarct was on IV antibiotics. One month later, he presented with convulsions without any significant focal deficit, CT revealed large intraparenchymal bleed, which on Digital Subtraction Angiogram (DSA) showed a leaking intracranial Mycotic Aneurysm (MA). Aneurysm was embolized using 62% histoacryl glue under roadmap guidance following which the leakage was stopped successfully. This case emphasizes the importance of considering the presence of MA in the differential diagnosis in the setting of suspected endocarditis and focal neurological deficits. We report the case of an 11-year-old girl, who presented with weakness of legs for 20 days at presentation. The symptoms started soon after the initiation of sodium valproate for generalized seizures. The patient was found to have carnitine deficiency. Majority of the reports suggest that valproate induced myopathy occurs months after the onset of treatment. We report this case where the myopathy developed within days of onset of treatment with valproate. This may have been the reason why the patient showed no changes in EMG. At 30% of all new diagnoses, the most prevalent malignancy for women is breast cancer, which in the United States will result in an estimated 266,000 new cases this year alone. Of the patients diagnosed with breast cancer, approximately 10-15% will develop distant metastases within three years of the initial detection of a primary tumor. For comparison, the five-year survival rate for localized breast cancer is 99%, whereas, the survival rate for metastatic breast cancer drops drastically to only 27%. The significant difference in survival rates is indicative of a need for a novel treatment strategy for metastatic breast cancer. …
