Risk Factor Assessment For Breast Cancer In North Cyprus: A Comprehensive Case-Control Study Of Turkish Cypriot Women, Ruqiya Pervaiz, Özgür Tosun, Hasan Besim, Nedi̇me Serakinci

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: This case-control study aims to assess the strength of associations between reproductive, lifestyle, sociodemographic, and dietary factors as well as other potential breast cancer risks and breast cancer (BC) in a North Cyprus population. Materials and methods: The study includes 408 BC patients and 412 age-matched controls recruited from Near East Hospital and Dr. Burhan Nalbantoglu State Hospital in North Cyprus. Information regarding clinical and epidemiological characteristics was collected through a standardized interview. Age-adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% con dence intervals (CIs) were calculated by logistic regression before and a er adjusting for the potential confounders. Results: In …

Association Of Serum Leptin With Serum Estradiol In Relation To Breast Carcinogenesis: A Comparative Case-Control Study Between Pre- And Postmenopausal Women, Syed Danish Haseen Ahmed, Farah Idrees, Muhammad Ahsan, Aziza Khanam, Naheed Sultan, Naheed Akhter

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: The aims of this study were to observe the interhormonal relationship of serum leptin with serum estradiol and to compare pre- and postmenopausal women for possible implications in breast carcinogenesis. Materials and methods: This comparative case-control study encompasses 175 breast cancer patients and 175 age-, sex-, and BMI- matched healthy controls. For comparison, the subjects were divided into pre- and postmenopausal groups according to their menstrual history. Blood samples were analyzed for serum leptin and serum estradiol by the ELISA method. Results: Higher mean values of serum estrogen and leptin were observed in breast cancer cases among both the …

Detection Of Ccnd1, C-Myc, And Fgfr1 Amplification Using Modified Sybr Green Qpcr And Fish In Breast Cancer, Asaad Azarnezhad, Mina Tabrizi, Firozeh Javan, Parvin Mehdipour Jan 2018

Detection Of Ccnd1, C-Myc, And Fgfr1 Amplification Using Modified Sybr Green Qpcr And Fish In Breast Cancer, Asaad Azarnezhad, Mina Tabrizi, Firozeh Javan, Parvin Mehdipour

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: The aims of this study were to detect CCND1, C-MYC, and FGFR1 amplification using qPCR, confirmation with FISH, and to further assess their clinicopathological relevance. Materials and methods: Thirty-five breast tumor samples were analyzed for amplification of the selected genes using modified SYBR Green qPCR. The accuracy of the qPCR was assessed by FISH as a gold-standard method. Results: CCND1, C-MYC, and FGFR1 amplifications were observed in 34.28%, 28.57%, and 17.14% of the 35 samples, respectively. qPCR results were significantly confirmed by FISH and qPCR and FISH showed excellent correlation (P = 0.000). CCND1 amplification with tumor stage (P …

Cross-Cultural Adaptation, Reliability, And Validity Of The Turkish Version Of The Cancer Fatigue Scale In Patients With Breast Cancer, Sedef Şahi̇n, Meral Huri̇, Orkun Tahi̇r Aran, Mi̇ne Uyanik

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: The Cancer Fatigue Scale (CFS) was developed to evaluate the severity of fatigue in patients with breast cancer. The aim of this study is to translate and culturally adapt a Turkish version and investigate the validity and reliability of the CFS in Turkish patients with fatigue symptoms. Materials and methods: Eighty participants completed the Turkish version of the CFS for breast cancer and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Core Questionnaire ″Core 30″ (EORTC QLQ-C30). Test-retest reliability was evaluated by repeating the CFS with a 7-day interval. Results: The CFS demonstrated high test-retest …
