During a four-week geriatrics rotation, medicine interns complete a fifty-minute, in-person, multimedia lecture to introduce the IP collaborator concept and the Canadian and American IP competency frameworks. The objective of this study was to quantify first-year health professional students’ attitudes toward their own and other professions following an interprofessional education (IPE) course. Additionally, this study sought to investigate the relationship between strength of professional identity and attitudes toward other professions.

Professional identity, along with the stereotypes that students hold of other professions, are key factors influencing IPE. Expectations are that attitudes towards other professions will improve following participation in an introductory IPE experience. Abortion laws are proliferating in the United States. From 2011 to 2013, 30 states passed a total of 205 abortion restrictions.¹ Increasingly, these laws are focused on abortion providers. Such laws have been criticized by professional organizations including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists,² but few studies have assessed the impact of these laws on abortion providers.
