A Mathematical Model Of Immune Response To Tumor Invasion, Lisette De Pillis, Ami Radunskaya

Recent experimental studies by Diefenbach et al. [1] have brought to light new information about how the immune system of the mouse responds to the presence of a tumor. In the Diefenbach studies, tumor cells are modified to express higher levels of immune stimulating NKG2D ligands. Experimental results show that sufficiently high levels of ligand expression create a significant barrier to tumor establishment in the mouse. Additionally, ligand transduced tumor cells stimulate protective immunity to tumor rechallenge. Based on the results of the Diefenbach experiments, we have developed a mathematical model of tumor growth to address some of the questions …

This information will allow providers to identify services and groups of people where the biggest gap exists in receiving needed health care services. This may provide the basis for the design of an advanced practice preventative health intervention for the community.

Aminoglycoside antibiotics are first-line treatment for many infectious diseases in the pediatric population and are effective in adults. The traditional dosing interval in children is every 8–12 hours. Studies in adults reported equivalent efficacy and equal or less toxicity with once-daily regimens. Despite many studies in the adult population, this approach has yet to become standard practice in most pediatric hospitals. Reasons for lack of acceptance of this strategy in children include rapid aminoglycoside clearance, unknown duration of postantibiotic effect, safety concerns, and limited clinical and efficacy data.

TO THE EDITOR: Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy has gained popularity for the treatment of neuromuscular diseases (i.e., myasthenia gravis, inflammatory myopathy, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy), although adverse events are associated with high-dose IVIG infusions.^1,2 Common adverse reactions to IVIG therapy are anxiety, headache, fever, chills, chest pain, dyspnea, nausea, and abdominal pain.³ More serious adverse events include anaphylaxis, hemolytic anemia, hepatitis C, and thrombosis.³ Studies have shown documented effects of IVIG on blood rheology. It increases plasma viscosity in a dose-related response and may also activate platelets.^2–4 High-dose IVIG therapy is approximately 24–54 g/d.⁴

ทันตแพทย์มักจะประสบปัญหาค่อนข้างมากในการวางแผนการรักษาเพื่อบูรณะฟันที่มีการสูญเสียการยึด เกาะของอวัยวะปริทันต์ หรือในกรณีที่มีฟันผุหรือมีจุดแตกหักบริเวณจุดแยกรากในฟันกรามหลายราก ถึงแม้ว่าปัญหาดังกล่าวจะมีผลต่อการพยากรณ์โรคในระยะยาวของฟันที่ได้รับผลกระทบ การถอนฟันออกก็ไม่ใช่ทางเลือก ที่ดีเสมอไป การตัดแบ่งรากฟัน โดยเอาส่วนรากฟันและตัวฟันที่มีปัญหาออกไป มักเป็นทางเลือกหนึ่งใน การให้การรักษากรณีดังกล่าว รายงานฉบับนี้เป็นรายงานผู้ป่วยหนึ่งรายที่ใช้ฟันกรามล่างที่ทําการผ่าตัดแยกรากฟันออกไปหนึ่งรากร่วมกับฟันกรามอีกหนึ่งซี่เป็นฟันหลักในการบูรณะด้วยสะพานฟันที่เป็นโลหะล้วน ชนิด semi- precious และออกแบบฟันแขวน (pontic) เป็นแบบ sanitary pontic เพื่อให้ง่ายต่อการทําความสะอาด และได้ ติดตามผลการรักษาเป็นระยะทุกๆ 6 เดือน เป็นเวลา 3 ปี 3 เดือน (นับถึงวันที่เขียนรายงานฉบับนี้) ผลปรากฏ ว่าผู้ป่วยสามารถใช้งานฟันปลอมได้ดี ไม่มีอาการเจ็บปวด สะพานฟันอยู่ในสภาพดี ไม่โยกขยับ ไม่มีการรอบ คอฟัน ไม่มีคราบจุรินทรีย์เกาะติดรอบสะพานฟัน

The general purpose of the present study was to examine the nature of role ambiguity in sport teams and to explore the construct validity of the operational definition of role ambiguity developed by Beauchamp, Bray, Eys, and Carron (2002). Role ambiguity was operationalized as a multidimensional construct (Scope of Responsibilities, Behavioral Responsibilities, Evaluation of Performance, and Consequences of Not Fulfilling Responsibilities) that occurs in two contexts, offense and defense. Consistent with the a priori hypothesis, perceptions of role ambiguity exhibited some degree of within-group consistency and group-level variability, but most of the variance in role ambiguity was seen at the …

Parallel tangent breast irradiation is commonly used postbreast conservation surgery for early breast cancer patient without lymph node involvement to improve local disease control. Intra-fractional and inter-fractional variabilities are often presented in daily treatment setup. The present pilot study used Electronic Portal Imaging (EPI) to evaluate intra-and inter-fraction motion in patients undergoing simple breast tangent radiotherapy.

The human auditory cortex comprises multiple areas, largely distributed across the supratemporal plane, but the precise number and configuration of auditory areas and their functional significance have not yet been clearly established. In this paper, we discuss recent research concerning architectonic and functional organisation within the human auditory cortex, as well as architectonic and neurophysiological studies in non-human species, which can provide a broad conceptual framework for interpreting functional specialisation in humans.
