Urinary N-Acetyl-\Beta-D-Glucosaminidase Excretionin Asphyctic Newborns-Does It Predict Thedevelopment Of Acute Renal Failure?, Mete Aki̇sü, Nilgün Kültürsay, Resmiye Oral, Nermin Tansuğ, Caner Kabasakal

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Urinary N-acetyl-\beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) levels of twenty healthy full-term newborns and of seventeen full-term newborns with perinatal asphyxia were evaluated within the first 48 hours of life. Urinary NAG levels and NAG indices (urinary NAG/urinary creatinine ratio) were sig-nificantly higher in newborns with perinatal asphyxia than control group (p

Vitamin E and other antioxidants prevent or minimize oxidative damage in biological systems. The level of antioxidant defense sufficient to protect the organism from high free radical concentrations is one of the new horizons for Vitamin E research. The role of Vitamin E as a protective agent aganist oxidative stress was evaluated by meas-uring the antioxidant enzyme catalase (CAT) activities in different tissues of Swiss male albino rats aged two months. In this study, rats were divided to three groups; control (n=10), E 1 (n=5) which received 25 mg/kg. per day of Vitamin E, IM. for 10 days and E …

Diethylstilbestrol (DES), nonsteroid in structure, is an artificial estrogen derivative and is used as an anabolic agent. It is known that diethylstilbestrol causes genetic disorders and toxic effects leading up to carcinoma even in amounts below its residual levels. For this purpose, a dose of 60µm/kg/day of DES dissolved in 0,1 ml corn oil has been administered to rats by oral gavage for varying periods of 20, 50 and 100 days periods. Rat renal tissue samples, following routine electron microscopical procedure, have been examined by transmission electron microscopy. Following diethylstilbestrol administration, glomerular capilleries seemed dilated along with occasional basement membrane …
