The Utility Of Magnetic Stimulation In Peripheral Nerve Study, Wang-Lin Su, Baii-Jia Yang Dec 1994

The Utility Of Magnetic Stimulation In Peripheral Nerve Study, Wang-Lin Su, Baii-Jia Yang

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Clinically, we were occasionally asked to evaluate peripheral nerve injuries in patients whose local cutaneous conditions, such as burn wound, crushing wound, skin graft, and gauze overlying limb, were not suitable for percutaneous electrical stimulation or needle EMG. Could the magnetic stimulation be used in these conditions? How much potential deviation could be produced with this technique when the limbs were covered by gauze? Its our purpose to solve these questions.Thirteen young volunteers participated in this tudy. First, we performed the motor and sensory NCV with percutaneous electrical stimulation. Then, the magnetic stimulation was performed with Cadwell MES-10, 9cm pointed …

The mean period of these cases since onset to receiving urodynamic study was 2 years and 4 months (range from 1 month to 14 years). All of these cases had accepted at least two urodynamic …

Effect Of Elbow Position On Motor Nerve Conduction Study Of Ulnar Nerve, Shih-Ching Chen, Chao-Jung Chen, Chein-Wei Chang Dec 1994

Effect Of Elbow Position On Motor Nerve Conduction Study Of Ulnar Nerve, Shih-Ching Chen, Chao-Jung Chen, Chein-Wei Chang

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of elbow position on segmental motor nerve conduction velocity (MNCV) of ulnar nerve and compound motor action potential (CMAP) pick up on abductor digiti minimi. The study was performed on 38 ulnar nerves of 19 healthy persons under 4 different joint angles (FE: full extension, F45: flexion 45°, F90: flexion 90°, FF: full flexion). The results show: (1) The latency, amplitude and area of CMAP are all not affected by elbow position. (2) The ulnar MNCV of across elbow segment (AcV) and forearm segment (FV) and the measured length of …

Cardiovascular Response After Isokinetic Power-Endurance Ecercise, Tcho-Jen Liu, Chen-Liang Chou, Chen-Ming Chiu, Tao-Chang Hsu

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

This study was taken to determine the cardiovascular response after isokinetic endurance exercise among different extremities (Upper vs Lower), speeds (High-180°sec vs Low-60°sec), Types (Concentric vs Eccentric). The subjects (N=80) used KinCorn isokinetic dynamometer to perform isokinetic endurance exercise. Systolic & Diastolic pressure, rate pressure product and change ratio were measured at rest and after exercise.Among the lower limb isokinetic endurance exercise, the high speed eccentric contraction group had the significant cardiovascular response; among the upper limb, the low speed concentric had the significant cardiovascular response. Campared with the upper & lower limb group, the lower limb groups had higher …

The Correlation Between Distance Of Two Point Discrimination In Hand And Performance Of Functional Discriminative Activeity In Normal Young Adults: A Preliminary Study, Sue-May Kang, Shen-Chang Chen, Tao-Chang Hsu

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the difference of the distance of two point discrimination between distal and proximal areas in hands and the correlation between the performance of functional discriminative activity and the distance of two point discrimination. The moving and static two point discrimination distances of bilateral hands were measured in thirty normal young college students. Each of them performed the tests of functional discriminative activity by searching red-beans mixed in a container of rice and recognizing the numbers (from zero to nine) engraved on ten rubber stamps. The results revealed that (1) The distance of two …

Comparative Study Of Recording Electrode On First Donrsal Interosseous And Abductor Digiti Minimi In Cubital Tunnel Syndrome, Gii-Hsiang Hsu, Rai-Chi Chan, Tu-Bin Chu, Tao-Chang Hsu

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Cubital tunnel syndrome is the common entrapment/compression mononeuropathy diagnosed in the electromyography (EMG) laboratory. Slowing of the elbow segment's motor conduction velocity is a primary identifier of anab normality. The purpose of this study is to compare the difference of the conduction velocity with recording in First Dorsal Interosseous (FDI) and Abductor digiti minimi in cubital tunnel syndrome (CuTS).The subjects included three groups: one study group consist of 24 upper limbs with CuTS which were diagnosed by NCS & needle EMG.. Another two control groups consist of 52 normal upper limbs which were fmther divided into older group (>30 years …

Antalgic Gait Of The Pelvic Girdle Dysfunction: Two Cases Report, Ching-Maw Lin, Chinn-Dong Chung, Chorng-Song Chou, Tao-Chang Hsu

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

The dysfunction or pathomechanics of sacroiliac joint is a common cause of low back pain. The sacroiliac joints are nonweight bearing joints that function to absorb forces from various directions. Pyogenic infection of the sacroiliac joint resulted in limited hip mobility and pain when the peivis was compressed. The first case was diagnosed as septic arthritis and reported.Infectious processes in the retroperitoneal space often involve the iliopsoas muscle. The infection usually is secondary to other intra-abdominal or intra-pelvic inflammatory processes However they rarely arise primarily within the retroperitoneum. These primary infections occur most often in younger patients and usually will …

Inclusion Body Myositis: Report Of A Case, Chein-Wei Chang, Tien-Jye Chang, Ming-Shiang Wu, Che-Yen Chen

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

A female of age 30 years developed a muscular weakness in proximal extremities during 2 years and responded poorly to steroid treatment. Creatine kinase in isoenzymic MM form was markedly elevated according to a serum muscle enzyme test. Electromyography examination showed a myopathic feature. Histopathological tests in muscle biopsy specimens revealed prominent cytoplasmic vacuoles rimmed by basophilic granules under space optical microscopy, and abundant intranuclear filamentous inclusions in electron microscopy. These clinical features and athological especially electron microscopic findings are considered to be of paramount importance for the diagnosis of inclusion body myositis.
