The Relationship Between Maxilla And Mandible In Oral Rehabilitation (ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างขากรรไกรบนล่างในการปรับสภาพช่องปาก), Patchanee Rungrongarnun, Issarawan Boonsiri

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

The important step in oral Rehabilitation for dental prosthesis is to measure the distance between maxilla and mandible. The measurement can be done in a number of ways, distance measurement from lateral cephalometric radiograph, electrical muscle stimulator, phonetic and sound, the facial soft tissue contour, swallowing and the consideration of the remaining teeth in order to evaluate whether or not the proper relationship between the maxilla and the mandible has been loss. It should be kept in mind that the error regarding the distance finding between the maxilla and the mandible when making dental prosthesis could be harmful to the …

The Alleviation Of The Problem Of Rescinding The Contract By The Contract Dentist.(การบรรเทาปัญหาการชดใช้ทุนของทันตแพทย์ผู้ทําสัญญา), Sant Ananchanachai

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

The Contract Dentist Project was launched by the government to solve the problem of lacking dentists in the rural areas. The government specified that the dentist having graduated since 1989 was the contract dentist. It is incumbent upon all contract dentists to work for the government in the specific areas for 3 years. However, the subsequent problem is the indemnifying 400,000 baht for rescinding the contracts by the contract dentists. The problem has an inclination to increase every year. The development of the dental faculty members' abilities is one of the crucial ways to alleviate this problem.(โครงการทันตแพทย์ผู้ทําสัญญา เป็นโครงการที่รัฐบาลดําเนินการเพื่อแก้ไขปัญหาการขาดแคลนทันตแพทย์ในเขตชนบท โดยกําหนดให้ทันตแพทย์ที่สําเร็จการศึกษาตั้งแต่ปี 2532 …

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of two citric acid application techniques on cementum slabs in vitro. Eight extracted periodontally involved canine teeth were used. Two cementum slabs were obtained from the root of each tooth for each technique after they were scaled and root planed. Each slab was grooved to devided in to two parts, one for citric acid application and one for control. Citric acid (pH 1) was applied to sixteen cementum slabs for 3 minutes with two techniques: light application and rubbing techniques. All slabs were fixed in paraformaldehyde 4%, prepared for SEM …

Laccase Production By Chaetomium Elatum, A Soft-Rot Fungus, Wilson H. Howe, Joyce M. Hardin Jan 1994

Laccase Production By Chaetomium Elatum, A Soft-Rot Fungus, Wilson H. Howe, Joyce M. Hardin

Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science

Though enzymes responsible for rotting wood have been studied for some time, the enzymes and enzymatic systems responsible for breaking down lignin have only begun to be discovered. The lignin-degrading enzymes produced by soft-rot fungi, in particular, have not been sufficiently studied. The present study presents evidence that the enzyme called laccase, known to be associated with lignin biodegradation, is produced by the species Chaetomium elatum, a soft-rot fungus. Cerrena unicolor, a positive control, and Chaetomium elatum were grown in culture. These species were tested for the presence of laccase using syringaldazine as a chromogenic substrate. As expected, Cerrena unicolor …

Complexity Of Fetal Movement Detection Using A Single Doppler Ultrasound Transducer, William A. Russell Jr., Curtis L. Lowery, Patrick J. Baggot, James D. Wilson, Robert Walls, Roger M. Hawk, Pam Murphy

Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science

The objective of this paper is to discuss the complexity of fetal movement detection encountered during development and implementation of an automated single Doppler ultrasonic transducer based instrument. The single transducer instrument was intended to better quantify the duration, velocity, and magnitude of fetal movements. A Corometrics Model 116 fetal heart rate monitor was modified, and a fetal movement detection algorithm (Russell Algorithm) was developed to detect fetal movements on one and two (data fusion) transducers. A Hewlett-Packard (HP) M-1350-A fetal monitor and the Russell Algorithm were used to detect and record fetal movements concurrently on sixty patients between the …

Use Of Visual And Tactile Behaviors By Rats (Rattus Norvegicus) In An Object Discrimination Swimming Task, Todd Wiebers Jan 1994

Use Of Visual And Tactile Behaviors By Rats (Rattus Norvegicus) In An Object Discrimination Swimming Task, Todd Wiebers

Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science

When challenged with a cognitive task, rats demonstrate a behavioral flexibility in use and preference of sensory modalities. The present study describes visual and tactile behaviors used by rats in a two choice object discrimination swimming task. The task was designed to preclude use of other sensory modalities and could not be solved via spatial strategies. Fourteen rats learned to criterion a series of 10 discrimination problems. Rats exhibited three stereotypic visual and two stereotypic tactile behaviors over the course of the study. Data analyses indicated that rats demonstrated these behaviors more frequently as they became more familiar with the …
