Speech education and concomitantly, speech re-education, is becoming an increasingly important part of the curriculum of the public schools. Speech is not only a tool; it is "our greatest agent of teaching and learning."¹ Therefore, the importance of adequate speech cannot be over-emphasized.

[From the Introduction] The purpose of this paper is to present data correlating three components of human serum: cholesterol, Sf 10-30 molecules, and lipid phosphorus. Three considerations rendered such a study worthwhile: first, the exclusive nature of the work that has been done relating of 10-30 molecules to cholesterol made repetition in a different laboratory desirable; second, there are not as yet any published reports concerning the relation of phospholipid levels to the large lipoproteins; and, third, the fact that Gofman relies in part on his studies of rabbit atherosclerosis (which may not be comparable to the human disease) in …

Th® basic problem, to which the following pages are devoted, was to determine the feasibility of autogenous peritoneum, external oblique fascia and inert polyethylene film as aortic grafts In doge. Today, the most successful and acceptable graft la homogeneous aorta obtained from Blood Vessel Banks. The thought was entertained that if a substitute for homogeneous aortic grafts could be found, especially if readily available, non-vital, or, if synthetic. Inexpensive and plentiful, a new approach to vascular grafting could be developed, many experimental uses of the ^improbable11 have resulted in clues to new approaches to scientific problems.

[From the Introduction] Slow but steady progress is being made in the treatment of laryngeal cancer and in understanding the factors which underlie the genesis of this disease. One important adjunct to such progress is the clinical experience furnished by periodic evaluation of cases previously diagnosed and treated. With this end in view, all New Haven Hospital cases were subjected to careful analysis and statistical study.

For over a quarter of a century a difference of opinion has existed regarding the relative value of auditory training in the education of the deaf child. The opponents have insisted that in most deaf children there is little or no residual hearing on which to use acoustic stimulation. The proponents have insisted that there are extremely few deaf children who do not have some residual hearing which could be stimulated to promote better speech, to increase speech perception, and to advance better mental health.

Its president is short, barrel chested, red-haired Walter P. Reuther. Reuther also occupies other posts within the union including the directorship of the General Motors Department, in which capacity he is chief negotiator in discussions with the General Motors Corporation. There are more than one million stutterers in the United States today, no less than 350,000 of whom are public school children (21). Rogers (22) estimated that the number of stuttering children in the United States is five times as many as the combined numbers of blind and deaf children. The incidence of stuttering is around one percent of the population (2,6,20). Around 20,000 stutterers are added to the number annually each year (13). Stutterers have been helped by many different methods of treatment based on many conflicting theories and therapies.
