Effects Of Alternate Hot-And-Cold Treatment Following Hysterectomy, Teresa Eileen Holland

This study was conducted to find out if the giving of alternate hot-and-cold treatments to the chest following abdominal hysterectomy would result in measurable benefits in improved patient comfort and rate of recovery. The White Memorial Hospital was selected as the control area and the Loma Linda Sanitarium and Hospital was selected as the experimental area.

Literature was reviewed to determine the value of wet heat and cold on the circulatory and respiratory system and whether or not their effects would be useful postoperatively.

Teaching and maintenance of standards of nursing care are indeed a responsibility of the clinical instructor. If she is to do effective instruction of the student's clinical experience, she needs to know what factors are influencing the student's performance as a result of her presence.

The significance of the student's reactions to various educational experiences has been receiving increasing recognition during the last several years. This study was conducted to identify factors from nursing students' opinions concerning what clinical instructors do that influence effective student performance. This study was done to develop a manual to be used in instructing food service supervisors in Brazil.

The need for the study was established when the writer was asked to direct a training course for food service supervisors in Brazil. Correspondence with dietitians in Brazil reveled that there was a definite need for a manual which presents current scientific, and technological information.

Current literature was reviewed and studied to determine present concepts in each of the areas of food service supervision and management. A manual of instruction was then prepared which included these concepts.

The forces exerted by the perioral musculature and the effects observed in subjects with adverse swallowing patterns accompanied by demonstrable mentalis habits were compared with a control group of "normal" subjects by the following methods:

1. Study casts of upper and lower arches were obtained for a morphological evaluation of denial structures.

This study was conducted to find out to what extent the student load at the Paradise Valley School of Nursing was conductive to a well balance life and to make recommendations which might guide the faculty in curriculum planning.

The normative-survey was the method used to gather data from the faculty and students of the Paradise Valley School of Nursing. Interviews and two guide sheets were used to gather information from fourteen instructors regarding their course requirements and their estimates of balanced living for students. This thesis concerns the use of ethyl N-substituted oxamates and ethyl N, N-di-substituted oxamates as intermediates in the synthesis of large molecules.

Richardson et al. (1) showed that ethyl N-aryloxamates were effective in differentiating between primary and secondary alkyl amines.

This thesis makes use of such differentiating ability in order to obtain preferential reaction on series of compounds, each compound containing both primary and secondary amino groups.

Further, the oxamates have been modified in an attempt to find compounds with greater differentiating ability than those used by Richardson et al., (1).

Recognition of the need for special education for school children with speech handicaps was first made in Potsdam, Germany, in 1896. Twelve years later in 1908 the first public school class in speech correction in the United States was organized in New York City, Programs of speech and hearing re-education in the public schools of the United States have expanded from this single metropolitan system in 1908 to a nation-wide effort in little more than fifty years.

This paper presents a study of the helminth endoparasite of the Chinese or ring-necked pheasant (Phasianus colchicus). The digestive and respiratory tracts of 262 pheasants, all of which were collected in Brown County, South Dakota, were examined. Collections were ,made from January, 1961, through November of the same year. The problem was divided as follows: (1) locating and Identifying the helminth parasites, (2) relating parasitism to the age of the birds, (3) ascertaining the seasonal distribution of the parasites, and (4) determining what gross pathological changes were due to parasitism.
