This job termination study was done to find out the number of terminations and the reasons given for these terminations in a selected hospital. It was also done to determine the factors that were responsible for the decision of the employee to terminate. Both job related and non job related factors were studied. By studying these reasons and factors, nursing service administration may come to a better understanding of those areas within the working unit and relationships that need to have further study.

In this study an attempt was made to determine the amount of interproximal contact disruption necessary to initiate an electromyographically discernable deviation in the masticatory musculature. Ten adult subjects with adjudged normal occlusions were used. An additional study was under taken to determine the time necessary for the right and left temporal and masseter muscles to accommodate this disruption. Myographic recordings were taken of the subjects while closing firmly in centric occlusion and chewing Dentyne gum first on the right side, then on the left.

This study was done to learn how the incidence of falls was related to certain, selected factors such as ambulatory state, sex, location of occurrence and time of occurrence in the nursing home chosen for the study and to make recommendations for increasing the safety of nursing home patients.

The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether an introduction course in psychiatric nursing for beginning students would increase their awareness of the covert nursing needs of the hospitalized patient.

Literature was reviewed to find out what had been written concerning covert needs, how one could discern them and to determine the need of the patient as an individual.

Using the problem solving method, a tool was prepared to test the ability to identify covert nursing problems. A situational test was developed from experiences of seven hospitalized patients. A pilot study was conducted to perfect the tool.

The problem of this study was to review 100 open heart surgical cases in a selected hospital to determine the changes occurring in central venous pressure in relation to blood loss.

The review of literature revealed that central venous pressure is an important factor in determining immediate postoperative care of open heart surgical patients. If central venous pressure falls below the normal range of 5 to 10 centimeters of water, hemorrhage is suspected. If central venous pressure is elevated between 15 and 20 centimeters of water, cardiac tamponade is suspected.

Data from thirty medical records of phenylketonuric children under treatment were investigated to determine at which serum phenylalanine level (0-3.9 mg. %, 4-7.9 mg %, 8-11.9 mg. %, greater than 12 mg. %) there would be the greatest increase in intelligence. The children involved in the study were divided into the following groups according to the age dietary treatment was initiated: 0 through 5 months, 6 through 11 months, 12 through 23 months, and over 2 years of age.

They said, "From every angle, an adult with a disorder of articulation presents a much more serious problem than a child with such a defect" (40. p. 218). Their statement is an appropriate current evaluation of the same problem. Clinical experience as well as considerable research, which will be discussed later in this chapter, has shown that children are inconsistent in their misarticulation of speech sounds. Children who typically misarticulate a sound may, nevertheless, articulate the sound correctly in certain words. Several authors have suggested that these occasional correct productions of the usually misarticulated sound can be useful in therapy. This study was initiated to compare electromyographically the activity of the masseter and temporal muscles during the early retentional period in orthodontic patients. Electromyographic recordings were taken at the following times: (1) before typical edgewise appliance was removed, (2) at time of retainer insertion, (3) after eight to twelve weeks of retainer wearing, and (4) one day following occlusal equilibration. Electromyograms from the orthodontic group of subjects were compared with electromyograms from a group of subjects with normal occlusion, and a group of subjects with untreated Class II, Division 1 malocclusions. Three hundred Swiss Webster albino mice three weeks of age were placed on low (8%), medium (24%), high (48%) protein levels and a commercial laboratory animal feed, Purina Chow for various lengths of time: (1) simultaneously with infection, and four weeks thereafter, (2) three weeks before infection and throughout the four-week infection period, and (3) six weeks prior to infection and during the infection period. The experimental method with parallel groups and a single variable was used. The instructions for hygienic measures were the same in the control and experimental groups. In a pilot anthropometric study of 52 Navajo Indians of Monument Valley, Utah, the incidence of dental caries, permanent tooth periapical root resorption, and alveolar bone loss was assessed. The relationship of tooth malpositioning to the specific parameter was subsequently determined.

The sample was divided into arbitrary age groups.

Periapical roentgenograms were taken of each subject and were used in the assessment of dental caries, periapical root resorption, and alveolar bone loss. Data from a specially prepared examination sheet augmented the findings from the roentgenograms.

A random sampling of 54 Navajo Indians was examined and a selective group of 20 subjects presenting harmonious facial profiles and good occlusions were taken from this random sampling for specific comparison with Caucasian and other ethnic groups.

The methods used in this study are as follows: Plaster casts of Maxillary and Mandibular dental arches, profile photographs and lateral cephalometric X-rays. The cephalometric X-rays were traced in the standard manner on both Downs' and Riedel's analyses. The purpose of this study was to: (1) determine specific factors that contributed to medication errors during the identification process of medication preparation and administration, and (2) present these findings as an aid to minimize or eliminate factors which contribute to medication errors.

To conduct this study the descriptive survey was used. Seventeen medication nurses were observed on three medication rounds. A total of 688 patient contacts and 933 prepared medications were observed and tabulated. The tool of research used to collect data was an observation check sheet developed for this study.
