A Comparative Study Of Postoperative Discomforts Experienced By Men And Women, Sylvia Tan Chang

This descriptive survey study was conducted to find out if women experienced more postoperative discomforts than men as determined by their statements on the third postoperative day. With this knowledge, the nursing care of these patients can be planned and improved. Twenty-five men and twenty-five women interviewed on their third postoperative day were asked to recall what they had experienced on the first, second, and third postoperative days. An interview guide adapted from the study conducted by Bartlett was used. The findings indicated that more women than men complained of feeling uncomfortable postoperatively. This study presents a historical account of intercollegiate wrestling at Utah State University, from its introduction into the athletic program in 1921 until the school year of 1966. Data were gathered by use of historical research methods and personal interviews.

The intercollegiate wrestling program at Utah State University has shown steady growth and development since its introduction in 1922. The primary motivating force behind the wrestling program was George "Doc" Nelson.

The junior college athletic program at College of Southern Utah commenced in 1923. The facilities were barely satisfactory, and the construction of better facilities began in 1926. A new gymnasium was constructed and was rated as one of the better facilities in the state. The football stadium was relocated in 1928 and constructed almost entirely by donated labor, materials and equipment from community residents. A new and larger gymnasium was constructed in 1949.

Football was inaugrated in 1928 on a full-time basis and has maintained this status, except during World War II The College of Southern Utah won the league …

[From the Summary] Five mongrel dogs were hemorrhaged to and arterial pressure of 35 mm. Hg. The blood pressure was allowed to fluctuate after ouabain injection. It was found that after drug injection this group was not different from a control group of two dogs, in terms of rise in cardiac output and oxygen consumption. Ten mongrel dogs were hemorrhaged to an arterial pressure of 35 mm. Hg., with maintenance of this pressure throughout the experiments. Ouabain, vasoxyl, isuprel, and saline were given at the appropriate times. It was found that under these conditions, ouabain acted similarly to the vasopressor, …

It was the purpose of the present study to explore the feasibility of investigating naturally occurring behavior of mental retardates with an observational technique.

Twelve mentally retarded male subjects, ages sixteen to twenty one, with Adaptive Behavior levels of upper III, were observed for a total of four observational time blocks of fifteen minutes each. From the collected data 105 behavioral events were extracted, and sorted as to their appropriateness or inappropriateness in the behavioral setting. Each subject was assigned scores based on frequency counts of occurrence of appropriate and inappropriate behaviors manifested during his four observational time blocks. Rank …

The purpose of this thesis is to test the theory of cognitive dissonance as it relates to a reader's selectivity in reading controversial material involving his personal prejudices or attitudes. Festinger states that forced or accidental exposure to new information which tends to increase dissonance will frequently result in misinterpretation and misperception of the new information by the individual thus exposed in an effort to avoid a dissonance increase. Therefore, cognitive dissonance theory would predict that a person's prejudiced attitude would negatively effect his reading comprehension on material which was disharmonious with his attitude. Many attempts have been made to prepare aryl boronic acids and their esters which show a preferential affinity for tumor tissues for use in radiation therapy of neoplatic disorders (1,2). The data of Soloway, as extended and refined by Hansch and his coworkers, successfully correlates the low lipid solubility and electron releasing substituents of phyenl boronic acid derivatives with increased tumor concentration (3,4,5). However, most of these organoboron compounds do not produce a sufficiently high tumor-to-normal tissue boron concentration ratio for practical use in human cancer chemotherapy by the neutron capture technique. Modification of deviant speech patterns begins with identification of the factors responsible for the deviancy. Agreement between speech clinicians (trained listeners) and parents and teachers (untrained listeners) on the nature of errors may be important in a successful clinical services program. Previous studies investigated differences between trained and untrained listeners in the number of "correct-incorrect" decisions they made about speech sounds. This study dealt with the ability of listeners to rate defective /r/ sounds along a r--w continuum. The roots and rhizomes of Anemopsis Californica (Nutt.) Hook and Arn. (family Saururaceae) have been used by the early Spanish Americans and Indians to treat a variety of ailments. The plant is commonly known as Yerba del Mansa, Yerba Mansa, or Manza.

We decided to investigate the essential oil of Anemopsis Californica in greater detail. The results of our investigation to date are included and described in this thesis.

The substance choline, one of the quaternary nitrogen bases, has been the subject of a number of reviews and investigations. It has been described as a cholinergic agent, an inotropic agent, a vitamin, and perhaps in other ways. In spite of the interest shown in its action and uses, there is as yet very little information available as to the mechanism by which it is absorbed by the intestinal mucosa.
