A test of standing broad jump ability was administered to ninety-three sixth grade boys to compare the kinesthetic and demonstration methods of instruction. The subjects were classified on the Neilson-Cozens Classification Index and divided into three groups. The first group received the kinesthetic method of instruction, the second group was instructed using the demonstration method, and the third group did not receive any formal instruction.

In an attempt to elucidate the problem of extracellular space within the cerebral cortex of the rat, several physiological parameters were analyzed during perfusion fixation with glutaraldehyde and acrolein for electron microscopy. These parameters were electroencephalography, electromyography, electrocardiography, cerebrospinal fluid pressure, impedance of cerebral cortex, perfusion pressure, and flow rate of the perfusate.

The first portion of this investigation dealt with the problem of asphyxiation of tissues during fixation. The influence of pins on the compression and tensile strength of a composite resin was measured.

Compression strength was measured in cylindrical samples 8 mm long and 4 mm in diameter, using different size threaded stainless steel pins. The tensile strength was determined by compression along the diameter of cylindrical samples containing different sizes and orientations of threaded stainless steel pins.

The conventional dumbbell tensile strength was measured by pulling the mounted specimens in the direction of their long axis, using non-threaded pins.

This investigation concerns the relationship of diabetes mellitus and vascular hypertension to oral lichen planus. Questionnaires were sent to 470 patients with oral lichen planus: 286 responded. Of these patients 103 were examined clinically, and 74 with current lesions were divided into ''keratotic'' and ''erosive'' categories. These patients underwent three-hour oral glucose tolerance tests; also, their asterial blood pressure was determined. In the survey group, diabetes was reported about three times more frequently by those with "erosive"; oral lichen planus than by those ''keratoic" lesions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate microscopically the effect of topically applied 2% chlorhexidine gluconate on the healing of gingival wounds in dogs.

One week after the teeth were scaled and polished, seven experimental wound sites were prepared in the facial gingiva adjacent to the four premolars on each side of the maxillary arch in six young Labrador dogs. This pilot study was concerned with discovering the effectiveness of the ice pack as an agent for reducing the blood flow through the scalp blood vessels thereby reducing the alopecia caused by the drug adriamycin. The use of cold is known as a vasoconstricting agent. It was thought that if vasconstriction could be maintained for the first few minutes following the injection of adriamycin, the incidence of alopecia could be reduced.

The purpose of this study was: to develop a model for testing oral bone transplantation; to study the healing of a surgically produced defect with and without the transplantation of strongly allogeneic cancellous bones and marrow; and to determine the fate of the allogenic grafts. Twenty-eight CBA/H mice served as experimental animals. Intra-oral defects were made and in 14 of the animals strongly allogenic cancellous bone and marrow were transplanted. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a post-abortion counseling program. It was hypothesized that unmarried adolescents who received counseling following a therapeutic abortion would exhibit significantly fewer negative affects than those who received no counseling. The affects measured were anxiety, depression, hostility, and guilt. Twenty clients were randomly selected for this study. Prior to the abortion, the twenty clients were-tested for negative responses to the unwanted pregnancy. Both dibutyryl cyclic AMP and trypsinized concanavalin A have been shown to inhibit growth in certain cell lines but little testing of these substances has been done using human tumor cell lines. Further, there are at this time no published experimental attempts to correlate the effects on growth with a particular phase of the cell cycle in any cell line.

Ten male volunteer students between the ages of 18 and 24 in a beginning weight training class were used for subjects. The test periods included a pre-test and a post-test. This paper demonstrates the value of oxygen in maintaining arterial blood gas in an adequate range during outpatient oral surgery. Dental extractions were completed on ten patients under an anesthetic technique utilizing Innovar and methohexital with supplemental nasal oxygen. Blood gas samples were drawn at five stages during the procedure.

The mean of the PaO₂ samples drawn with the patient at the point of deepest sedation was approximately three times the normal value.

This experimental study tested the effect of a teaching program on success of a group of mothers desiring to breast feed their babies. It was hypothesized that mothers receiving specific instructions on the physiology of lactation and the proper sucking technique would have greater success than mothers not so instructed.

To be categorized as successful the mothers had to have an adequate supply of milk and had to express satisfaction with breast feeding. Criteria for adequacy of milk supply consisted of weight gain of the infant within accepted norms without use of supplementary formula.

This exploratory retrospective study was designed to evaluate selected factors, including the ability to regain bladder function related to post indwelling urethral catheterization in an acute general hospital population.

The records of 107 patients who met the study criteria became the study population. These patients had three-way urethral catheters, continuous antibacterial irrigation and closed drainage system. Twenty patients died (19 percent) before the catheter was removed. Of the 87 patients who were alive, 37 percent (32 patients) had in-adequate bladder function. Of these 32 patients, no attempt was made to remove the catheter from 15 prior to their hospital discharge. …

Six patients were treated by means of a simplified edgewise technique. The rate of the cuspid retraction and molar movement was measured and difficulty of appliance, adjustment, length of appointments, severity and duration of pain, and root resorption were assessed. The technique of treatment is described and evaluated relative to these criteria. The measurements were made utilizing a unique intra-oral camera and a measuring device designed for the study.

In a clinical study, polyurethane-type plastic modules were evaluated for use in retracting cuspids and incisors in Class I extraction cases.

Seven patients were selected to be treated with a technique utilizing these plastic modules. All cases were in Class I molar relationship and were either bimaxillary, protrusive or had tooth-size, arch-length discrepancies.
