Nursing technicians in the psychiatric department of a government health care system were selected for an empirical study focusing on their unplanned leave usage. My on-the-job experience as a nursing supervisor was one of the main motivations for the study.

Since the presence of nursing technicians is of vital importance to the success of psychiatric treatment modalities in a hospital setting, it is obvious that a high rate of unscheduled absences causes disruption and diminution of the therapeutic process.

The purpose of this study was to determine the maternal perception of the neonate in two groups of patients. The Broussard Neonatal Perception Inventory was used to measure maternal perception. The Inventory was modified by the researcher for use with both primiparae and multiparae. The control group consisted of fifteen mothers receiving traditional postpartum care in the hospital setting. The study group was composed of fifteen mothers who, prior to delivery, chose to participate in an early discharge program. In the early discharge program the patient and her newborn returned home twelve to twenty-four hours after delivery with home follow-up …

In May of 1968, Father Daniel Berrigan, a Jesuit priest, and his brother, Father Philip Berrigan, a Josephite priest, and seven others, entered the draft board offices in Catonsville, Maryland where they removed 378 draft files and burned them with homemade napalm.

This paper examines that event as a case study in symbolic behavior as rhetoric. In doing so, the author first seeks a definition of rhetoric, and a definition of symbolic behavior. Background material, both on the Berrigans, and on symbolic behavior as rhetoric is provided.

The primary purpose of this study was to see if the mercury strain gauge could be used to assess lung volume partitions from chest wall motions. The air supply within any given lung volume provides the basic foundation upon which speech respiratory events rest. By assessing lung volumes in speech, the speech clinician is aided in the diagnosis and treatment of inappropriate uses of speech respiration. In an investigation of the efficiency of typical Type V criteria (Rintelmann and Harford, 1967), atypical Type V criteria (Rotondi, 1976), and LOT-Bekesy audiometry (Rattler, 1970), Rotondi (1976) found atypical Type V Bekesy criteria to be the most efficient in the detection of functionality. Increasing the attenuation rate and sweep speed, and reducing the sweep frequency range em­ployed by Rotondi (1976) reduces total bilateral Bekesy testing time from 24 to eight minutes, still allowing for application of atypical and typical Type V criteria. Torrance's creativity test, What Kind of Person Are You?, was used to measure creativity in a convenience sample of 231 subjects. Mycelial (M) and blastopore (B) cell homogenates of Candida albicans strain BJ85 were compared to detect and recover unique M components. Qualitative differences in the protein and lipid content of Mand B homogenates were suggested by discontinuous polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (DPAGE). In addition, a quantitative and possibly qualitative shift in the protein content during germ tube formation was implied by DPAGE. Unique M components were detected using both DPAGE and immunoelectrophoretic (IE) techniques. One unique M component by DPAGE, four by IE, and two by combined DPAGE and IE techniques were suggested. This project began with the notion that an in-depth examination of perceived changes in the parent-child relationship as reported by the noncustodial father would be both beneficial to mental health professionals as well as to paraprofessional groups and organizations working with divorced fathers. The authors were aware of much related research pertaining to the children of divorced parents and also the plight of divorced mothers, but felt there to be a lack of data concerning the noncustodial father and thus identified this area as an important mental health concern.

Leadership potentials and personality profiles of 27 associate degree and 20 baccalaureate degree nursing students were compared, using the California Psychological Inventory (CPI) and the Managerial Key for the CPI. The mean values on each of the 18 scales of the CPI and the mean values of the Managerial Score were compared and revealed no significant difference (p=.05) between the two groups of nursing students, and were within normal range, indicating average social and intellectual adjustment. Though the associate degree students had a higher mean value on the Managerial Score than the baccalaureate students the difference was not significant (p=.05). …

A sample of 27 cases treated with CHG were selected from the files of Rocky Mountain Data Systems, Inc. and Dr. B. Fletcher. The cases were divided into two groups according to forces used during treatment to initiate and continue distal molar movement. Group I consisted of 15.cases which had been treated by Dr. Ricketts using heavy cervical traction (250-500 grams); Group II included 12 cases which Dr. Fletcher had treated with very light cervical traction (120-240 grams).

The measurements of distal molar movement, facial axis and maxillary depth were recorded for each of the groups and t-tests were used …
