The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of family sculpting on perceptual agreement among family members.

Thirty families, each consisting of a father, a mother, and a child twelve years old or older, from areas of northern Utah and eastern Idaho participated in the study. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a peer counseling program in improving undergraduate students' academic adjustment. Six upperclassmen were carefully selected and systematically trained in the use of a study skills instruction program and certain supportive, therapeutic techniques. These six served as peer counselors. The peer counseling program provided individualized study skills instruction, informal personal/motivational counseling, and general educational information and advising for volunteer students in academic difficulty.

Declines have been documented on both the American College Testing Program (ACT) and the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). An increased interest in t he score declines and their possible explanations has also taken place in the last 10 years. Ten experimentally naive children between the ages of six and eight served in three generalized imitation experiments using symbolic models. Subjects were presented videotaped behaviors to imitate via closed circuit television, and their responses were mechanically defined, recorded, and reinforced in an effort to control social influences from the presence of the experimenter. In Experiment 1, imitation of three behaviors was reinforced and imitation of a fourth behavior was never reinforced for four subjects. Two other subjects received noncontingent reinforcement. Twenty-four young adults, ages 18 to 30, from Cache Valley were studied to determine the incidence of lactose malabsorption. Lactose malabsorption was determined by a two-hour oral lactose tolerance test. The criteria for a malabsorber was a flat glucose curve in which there was a rise in serum glucose less than 20 mg. per 100 ml. above the fasting level. Four of the subjects were found to be lactose malabsorbers. The incidence of lactose malabsorption was determined to be 16.67 per cent. Seven strains of Streptococcus cremoris and Streptococcus lactis were tested for temperature sensitivity on a temperature gradient bar. A temperature of 37 C was the optimum for differentiating between temperature-sensitive and insensitive strains. Temperature-insensitive strains produced cell masses with absorbance values of 0.1 or higher and activity levels of 1.0 (expressed as a decrease in pH) or above at 37 C. Temperature-sensitive strains failed to produce these cell masses and activity levels.

Strain selection and resistant-mutant isolation made it possible to identify ten strains of Streptococci sufficiently free of phage sensitivity for use in a cheese plant rotation program. These …

This study was conducted to determine whether a functional relationship exists between human tissue and environmental levels of chromium and/or zinc and in individuals with maturity onset diabetes.

Three counties of Utah were selected as sites:

Autocorrelation In Behavior Modification Data, Suzanne M. Girman

Many methodologists claim that autocorrelation in intra-subject designs is a pervasive and critical problem necessitating complex statistical analyses to determine the existence of an intervention effect. In this study, autocorrelation, coefficients were found for a large sample of graphed data in the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis. Results indicate that there is minimal, negative autocorrelation for most of the data analyzed (-.04). This result suggests the presence of autocorrelation in the intra-subject designs analyzed is of no practical significance, and thus is not the problem some methodologists have assumed it to be.

Approximately one-fifth of the more than one million abortions per year in the U.S. are performed on women who have already had one previous induced abortion. Repeat abortion is increasing and has been implicated as one of the major problems facing the abortion issue today. In this analytical study of 90 family planning clinic cli ents, some important findings relating to repeat abortion and ineffective contraceptive use were discovered.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the Cooper 12 Minute Run test and Bruce Multistage Treadmill test measure the same type of cardiovascular-endurance performance when testing adult women. A second purpose was to determine whether divergent levels of habitual activity by women are reflected in the scores on each test. Four groups of habitual activity were defined and labeled as follows: non-exercisers, minimal exercisers, adequate exercisers, and more than adequate exercisers. The study determined that twenty-three mildly to moderately retarded adults living within the community increased their sexual knowledge after attending a twelve month, data-based sex education training program. The Lane Community College-Adult Basic Education (LCC-ABE) Pre/Post Test was administered to each subject when he/she began and finished the training program. The Intermittent Probe Tests were administered to each subject after instruction in each of thirteen topic areas in the curriculum. The purpose of this research was to determine the subjective reactions of elderly hospitalized patients to the use and non-use of expressive touch by nurses. Expressive and instrumental touch and personal and non-personal talk were operationally defined.

The sample of 23 elderly patients consisted of 15 females and 8 males. The mean age of the sample was 76.4 years.

Human erythrocytes (RBC) from whole blood were separated according to their specific densities by centrifugation on a polyvinyl-pyrrolidine-coated colloidal silica matrix (Percoll) into four major subpopulations. By indirect immunofluorescence array, the most dense RBC subpopulation with specific density >1.110 g/ml (3-5% of total RBC), was positive for membrane-bound immunoglobulin; the remaining, less dense subpopulations were negative. IgG was present on 85-95%, IgM on 28-32%, and IgA on 15-20% of the RBC in the most dense subpopulation. When these immunoglobulins were radiolabeled in situ, eluted, and used in binding studies with autologous RBC fractions subjected to thermal and/or enzymatic treatment with …

This thesis investigates the application of art therapy for the evaluation and treatment of emotionally disturbed children, with a specific focus on the use of clay and Media Dimension Variables (MDV). The author posits that clay is an exemplary medium for therapeutic intervention due to its plasticity, three-dimensional nature, and capacity to range from resistive to fluid states. The study adopts Kagan’s (1969) MDV system to structure therapeutic interventions, categorizing art activities by three distinct variables:

This study explored the time relationship of life change events in young adult patients with minor injuries for which medical attention was sought in an emergency department (ED). Life change events are those occurrences in life which require an alteration in a person's adaptive and coping responses to ease the discomfort associated with the change. Too much change without an increase in adaptation responses may cause loss of control. The manifestation of loss of control under evaluation in this study was the occurrence of a minor injury.

The purpose of this investigation was twofolds (1) to determine the validity of selected submaximal field tests used to estimate aerobic capacity, and (2) to determine the association of maximal oxygen consumption with the performance of selected submaximal field test. Eighteen females (X = l.9.4 yrs) volunteered to be Ss. Prior to the first two field tests, anthropometric data of ht and wt were collected and %BF, FW, and FFW were computed from skinfold measurements.
