The Effect Of Ionized Bracelets On Pain And Function In Individuals With Arthritis, Jamie Gullickson, Josh Hamilton, Amy Hebl, Rachel Hoffman

Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects

Arthritis is a prevalent condition found throughout the entire population. Manifestations of this disease can lead to increased pain in multiple joints leading to decreased functional mobility and limitations in activities of daily living. Ionized bracelets have become an increasingly popular non-traditional, conservative treatment for decreasing pain and improving well-being in persons with multiple diagnoses and body system involvement. Very little research has been conducted on the effects of ionized bracelets; therefore, additional research needs to be conducted to validate these theories.

The purpose of our study is to determine the effect of ionized bracelets on pain and function in …

Means of maximal force in knee extension and flexion, 242.56 Ibs. and 227.22 Ibs., respectively, were found to be statistically significantly different. The mean of …

Purification And Characterization Of A Methyl-Dna Binding Protein Complex From Primary Erythroid Cells, Evan Paul Kransdorf Jan 2004

Purification And Characterization Of A Methyl-Dna Binding Protein Complex From Primary Erythroid Cells, Evan Paul Kransdorf

Theses and Dissertations

The chicken embryonic β-type globin gene, ρ, is silenced on day five of embryogenesis. Concomitant with this silencing is methylation of cytosine residues in the promoter and proximal transcribed region of the gene, which is first detected on day seven and is complete in adult cells. Once methylated, expression of the gene cannot be induced unless the methylation is removed by treatment of cells with Sazacytidine. Therefore ρ-globin is a member of a small group of genes whose normal developmentally regulated expression is mediated at least in part by DNA methylation.A methyl-DNA binding complex, termed the MeCPC (Erythroid Methyl Cytosine-binding …

Characterization Of Insulin-Like Growth Factor Binding Protein-2 Secretion In Mouse Mesangial Cells, Marianne Ellen Albert Jan 2004

Characterization Of Insulin-Like Growth Factor Binding Protein-2 Secretion In Mouse Mesangial Cells, Marianne Ellen Albert

MUSC Theses and Dissertations

Dysregulation of the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system plays a key role in the hyperproliferative state seen in diabetic complications. Enhanced IGF-I activity plays a causal role in diabetic glomerulosclerosis (DG) by stimulating mesangial cell proliferation, secretion and hypertrophy. Other alterations of the IGF system may include increased IGF-I receptor (IGF-IR) and increased IGF binding protein (IGFBP) expression. The IGFBP family consists of six soluble binding proteins, IGFBP 1-6, which have higher affinities for the IGFs than the IGF-IR, resulting in blocking IGF access to the IGF-IR. Since the IGFBPs primarily function to inhibit IGF action, we hypothesize that overexpression …
