Factors Contributing To Executive Function In Young Adults, Lindy Janae Stevenson

Executive functions (EF) are skills used to complete desired behaviors and inhibit undesired ones. These skills are necessary for everyday life, and even more so in higher education and the workplace. This study examined the combined impact of sleep and exercise on five facets of EF in young adults enrolled in undergraduate or graduate courses. It also examined how perceived effort and performance in college classes interact with EF. The first five hypotheses studying sleep and exercise were analyzed using a 2x2 between-groups ANOVA. Background: Cervical cancer screening uptake in Sub-Saharan Africa is shaped by individual, social, economic, and health system factors, yet few studies test all four domains simultaneously within a single rural district. This study examined individual, social, economic, and health system determinants of screening uptake among women aged 18 years and above in Rubanda District, Uganda, a district with critically low screening coverage.

Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 418 women aged 18 years and above across four sub-counties of Rubanda District, selected through multi-stage sampling. Individual, social, economic, and health system characteristics were collected via structured questionnaire. …

AIMS: Pulsed field ablation (PFA) has emerged as a novel ablation modality for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and has rapidly reshaped contemporary electrophysiology practice. This article provides a comprehensive analysis on the mechanisms underlying the specific effects of PFA on myocardial, neural tissue structures, and the cardiac conduction system, integrating biophysical principles with preclinical and clinical evidence relevant to contemporary electrophysiology practice.

Overview: An MLA Caucus began an oral history project featuring its members. Using a collaborative, community-based approach, the project brings. This poster describes the development of this significant project.   Methods: In Fall 2025 one of our caucus leaders shared that they had a robust oral history project at their library organization. This began the idea of forming an oral history project at the MLA caucus level. Within the caucus, an oral history task force was formed. Pediatric health care systems face increasing uncertainty driven by rapid technological change, workforce shifts and shortages, environmental threats, and evolving family and community needs. Pediatrics requires future-focused considerations that go beyond adult systems, including family-centered care, developmental trajectories, and long-term societal impacts on child well-being. While the future cannot be predicted, futures medicine methods offer structured approaches to anticipate change and support proactive, values-driven planning. This Viewpoint describes the application of pediatric futures methods within an academic, independent nonprofit pediatric health system and proposes a practical framework that connects future readiness to strategic decision-making and daily care delivery. BACKGROUND: LSU Health New Orleans Libraries are conducting a scoping review to map the health sciences literature written on the topic of Hurricane Katrina for inclusion in an institutional archive. A pilot review was first conducted by the team to become more familiar with the process and gain better knowledge of the existing literature.

Background

Multimorbidity among older adults presents growing clinical and economic challenges, particularly in medically underserved states such as Arkansas. However, it remains unclear whether chronic conditions documented in routine healthcare encounters exhibit structured patterns of diagnosis co-documentation or primarily reflect incidental co-documentation. Understanding these patterns may inform future studies of multimorbidity and healthcare utilization.

Frequency-Dependent Cerebellar Circuits Independently Gate Social Vocalizations And Movement, Tao Lin, Benjamin R Arenkiel, Roy V Sillitoe

Communication depends on precise coordination between motor execution and cognition. Here we reveal that the cerebellum exerts real-time control over social vocalizations in adult mice. Optogenetic activation of excitatory cerebellar output in the superior cerebellar peduncle suppressed ultrasonic vocalizations with frequency-dependent potency while inducing distinct motor phenotypes. Systematic functional mapping across cerebellar regions and cell types revealed that vocal suppression can occur in the absence of overt motor impairment, suggesting selective control of vocal output beyond gross movement disruption. We identified the periaqueductal gray (PAG), a conserved midbrain vocal control center, as a key downstream mediator of this effect. Deep …

Birth Cohort Effects In Adults Associated With Influenza A(H1n1)Pdm09 Vaccine Effectiveness, Feng Liu, Stacey L House, Tamair Curley, Et Al.

BACKGROUND: In 2023-2024 influenza season, adults in the 1957-1985 birth cohort had the lowest vaccine effectiveness (VE) against A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses than other age groups, including those in the 1986-2005 birth cohort. We investigated A(H1N1)pdm09 antibody levels in sera collected from influenza cases and controls to explain the birth cohort effect of the low VE.

METHODS: Acute and convalescent sera were collected from adults (1986-2005 and 1957-1985 birth cohorts) during 2023-2024. Hemagglutination inhibiting (HI) and binding antibodies were assessed against representative A(H1N1) viruses and hemagglutinin antigens.

Background: Off-label use of intravenous ketamine (IVK) for depression is a widespread practice with limited regulation in the United States. There is an urgent need for current, evidence-informed treatment guidelines to facilitate patient safety, clinical decision-making, and care quality in real-world contexts.

Methods: The American Society of Ketamine Physicians, Psychotherapists and Practitioners (ASKP3) convened an interdisciplinary working committee tasked with creating guidelines for use of IVK for depression in outpatient settings. Edematous severe childhood malnutrition is distinct from the non-edematous form of malnutrition and remains a major cause of under-five mortality. Its etiology remains unclear, although aberrant one-carbon metabolism has emerged as a potential contributor. Here, we assess genetic variants at loci known to influence one-carbon metabolism, and determine their association with edematous malnutrition in Jamaica and Malawi. Six loci show evidence of association, including four related to homocysteine and folate metabolism - AHCYL1, PRICKLE2, GABBR2, and PLD2, with SNPs at the latter three also having direct effects on homocysteine-related metabolites in Mendelian Randomization. Introduction: Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) and other forms of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) require rapid, technically complex vascular cannulation. Although ECMO education and practitioner credentialing vary across centers, requirements specifically for cannulators are not well characterized. This study aims to describe training, credentialing, specialty restrictions, and proficiency maintenance for independent ECMO cannulators at U.S. ECMO programs.

Methods: We designed a multicenter, cross-sectional survey informed by prior literature on ECMO education and credentialing. Background Virtual care offers a complementary pathway to in-person visits for managing coronary artery disease (CAD). This study evaluated the feasibility of a nurse practitioner (NP)-led interdisciplinary virtual clinic dedicated to secondary prevention for individuals with stable CAD.

Methods A feasibility study was conducted in an academic cardiology practice in Canada from July 2021 to July 2024. A convenience sample of adults ≥18 years of age with stable CAD was included; each participant received at least one annual NP-led video visit reviewed with a cardiologist asynchronously.
