Previous studies have shown a difference in perceptions of maternal guilt induction when there are variations in the situation of the event and the structure of the maternal guilt inducting statement (Rote, 2017). This research expands on this by examining whether differences in attention to specific words within guilt inductive statements may underly previously observed variations. Using eye-tracking methodology and hypothetical vignettes, this study examined which words college-aged students attended to most within maternal guilt inductive statements. Music and medicine are merging to treat depression in Parkinson’s disease (PD). Antidepressants, the current standard, demonstrate mixed effects in clinical trials, warranting other treatment options. Here, I compare music therapy to antidepressants in the treatment of depression in PD via literature review. Studies of depressed PD patients undergoing music therapy and/or antidepressants were reviewed with attention to variables including depression (on a patient-reported outcome) that were measured pre- and post- therapy. In the music studies, improvements were seen in depression. Methodological inconsistencies across these studies, a paucity of studies, and small sample sizes, however, necessitate more research to reach …

Patient handling is a common task within the healthcare industry. Rehabilitation Therapists (RTs) and Rehabilitation Therapist Assistants (RTAs) report a significantly high incidence rate of low-back injuries and other musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). The purpose of this study was to characterize the ergonomic risks associated with patient transfers and assisted gait therapy. Exposure to ergonomic risk factors were assessed using the Strain Index (SI), Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA), and 3-Dimensional Static Strength Prediction Program (3DSSPP). This comparative research studied psychological distress, symptomatology, depression, and anxiety in two groups of college students, those who relocated from a different country and those who reside in a southeastern state in the United States. It aims to investigate the differences in levels of distress depending on whether or not students had relocated from a different country. Fifty-one international students and 95 U.S. students completed questionnaires, which examined psychological distress, stress, socio-economic status (SES), and acculturation to culture of origin and U.S. culture. Parkinson’s disease (PD) and Lewy Body Dementias (LBD) are two distinct synucleinopathies with a great amount of symptomatic and genetic overlap. This overlap can often lead to misdiagnosis. Misdiagnosis can result in improper therapy and therefore a poorer prognosis. LBD is a neuropath diagnosis with subcategories, but for the purpose of this project we discuss LBD as a whole. GBA is a gene common to both diseases with different effect sizes in each, although increasing severity of disease for both. Common is defined as a presence greater than 1% in healthy controls. Objective: Examine prevalence, demographic, and cancer risk perceptions of adults who have had a skin examination performed by a healthcare provider.

Methods: Retrospective, cross-sectional analysis of a nationally representative sample of U.S. adults using the Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS). Logistic regressions were performed to identify associations between having a skin examination, risk perceptions, and demographic variables.

Background: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are environmental pollutants released through multiple processes including manufacturing, automotive emissions, and tobacco smoking. Previous evidence has shown that exposure to PAHs is associated with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer, but the association with stroke has not specifically been examined.

Methods: The study used cross-sectional data from the 2005 to 2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) for 8,650 subjects. Objective: College students are at higher risk for the development of orthorexia nervosa (ON), a term used to describe the pathological obsession with healthy eating. This study aimed to assess how the factors of eating disorder (ED) history, gender, and dieting behaviors affect the ON in this population.

Methods: Students 18 years or older in a southeastern university were invited to take an online survey. Survey questions include Bratman Orthorexia Test (BOT), Eating Attitude Test-26 (EAT-26) and participant characteristics.

The current qualitative study sought to investigate the top 10 serial killers, with the highest confirmed kills, in the United States between the 1970-90s. Unlike previous research, we have chosen to focus on multiple serial killers with the highest confirmed kills as opposed to doing a case study of only one individual with media notoriety. This study aimed at validating direct segmental multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance (BIA) as an effective means of measuring body composition when compared to air displacement plethysmography (ADP-Bod Pod) in adults. We also investigated the effect of recent water intake on the assessment of body composition by these methods. The study sample consisted of 61 healthy individuals, 24 males with mean age 25.5 and 38 females with mean age 22.2. Mean body mass index was 25.5 kg/m2 for males and 22.2 kg/m2 for females. Background: Knowledge and consumption of a variety of whole grains are limited in the college-age population. Immersion into virtual reality simulates one being transported from their current surroundings to a completely new atmosphere.

Methods: A pilot study was conducted to determine if college students would be able to correctly identify various grains while immersed in virtual reality. Participants (n=39) were asked to sample two similarly shaped grains (pearl couscous and whole grain sorghum) while immersed in a virtual reality on-campus cafe. The lack of studies comparing unassisted strap PNF stretching to assisted PNF stretching for chronic increases in hamstring flexibility creates challenges in determining if using a strap is practical to recommend.
