The Unity Project: Camden Community Health Center Building Authentic & Impactful Relationships Through The Ask-First Model, Christian Diliberto, Ruchi Shah, Patrick J. Tempera

Last spring, the Camden Community Health Center (CCHC) launched the Unity Project, an initiative aimed at fostering relationships with various Camden, New Jersey organizations to not only educate community members about our services, but also to collaborate with them on improving Camden’s health. Although the CCHC has been in Camden for over 15 years, local organizations were unaware of our existence. There was also a similar disconnect among these organizations themselves. The goal of the Unity Project is to work towards affecting long-term change by forming authentic and impactful relationships with organizations that are already doing meaningful work.

Breathing swallowing coordination (BSC) is commonly evaluated using nasal thermistry and respiratory inductance plethysmography. In this study, BSC will be evaluated via spirometry in healthy adults. Spirometry may yield additional useful information regarding BSC in adults with neurodegenerative diseases.

Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States with no known methods to cure, reverse or halt disease progression. The “metal hypothesis” states that Fe^II, Cu^II, Zn^II, and Al^II bind to truncated Aβ peptides and form soluble oligomers which deposit as senile plaques. These plaques play a crucial role in AD pathogenesis. For example, metallated-Aβ aggregates are hypothesized to disrupt membranes or generate a reactive oxygen species (ROS) through redox cycling in the presence of Cu^I/II or Fe^III/II and a reducing agent. We previously found that stimulating activity in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) reduced binge-like alcohol drinking in mice. We manipulated the NAc using clozapine-n-oxide (CNO) and Designer Receptors Exclusively Activated by Designer Drugs (DREADDs). In a subsequent study, we tested the hypothesis that chronic administration of CNO (to stimulate excitatory DREADDs expressed in the NAc) could produce lasting reductions in binge drinking (as compared with mice receiving vehicle). We observed that 4 weeks of CNO administration resulted in reductions in binge-like drinking that lasted at least 1 week. Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among women. While many risk factors for breast cancer are known, viral infection has emerged as a potential factor in tumor development. Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV) generally causes mild or asymptomatic infection; however, recent evidence links HCMV to breast cancer. In particular, the viral cytokine cmvIL-10 promotes proliferation, migration, and invasion of breast cancer cells in culture. Since HCMV is transmitted via human breast milk, we hypothesized that breast tumor cells could become infected and produce cmvIL-10. If left untreated, orofacial cleft can impair normal speech development, and could lead to a number of health consequences later in life. The main motivation of the study is to measure the impact of being born with cleft and the cleft reparative surgery on overall speech and health for teenagers in India using difference-in-differences approach along with household fixed effects method. India has a backlog of an estimated 1,000,000 patients in need of cleft lip and palate repair. Unrepaired clefts result in social stigma and diminished psychological well-being, physical health and academic functioning. Cleft repair surgery has the potential to restore functioning in these domains. However, the magnitude of the social, educational, and economic impact of cleft repair surgery has not been evaluated using statistically rigorous methods. An estimation of the psychosocial and educational impact of cleft repair has implications for the appropriate allocation of public health resources. We use data gathered from teenagers in India. In 1962, as Cold War tensions approached their peak, Friedrich Dürrenmatt, a Swiss playwright, published his play The Physicists. Two of the most important topics in The Physicists are mental illness and ethical responsibility of scientists. Dürrenmatt’s three main characters: Möbius (a genius), Einstein (a Russian spy), and Newton (an American spy) are all physicists who appropriate the status of mentally ill in order to hide from society inside the Les Cerisiers Sanatorium. This study aims to answer the question: Is there an association between chronic commuting and stress? Chronic commuting is defined as an individual that has a commute to Dominican University of California 3 or more times a week and has a drive time of 30 minutes or more one-way. Evidence suggests that commuting has adverse health effects regarding stress and anxiety. This study has extreme significance as it regards student health and aims to expose the risks associated with an activity that students engage with every day. The goal of this study is to determine whether such an association exists.

Objective: To examine the association between fatigue and caffeine consumption, and explore nurses’ perceptions of the impact of these factors on patient safety.

Background: Many people consume caffeine for its benefits, such as stimulating the central nervous system to feel more awake. Health professionals, such as nurses, commonly experience fatigue and often will drink coffee to get through their long shifts.

Methods: A comprehensive literature review was conducted. Studies were split into two categories – fatigue and patient safety or caffeine's effect on human performance.

In fact, the rate of incarceration is more than five times higher than most of the countries in the world.
