Enhancing Advocacy Through Nursing Interventions For Hospitalized Pediatric Oncology Patients With Absent Parents, Ma Seandee Mae Corrales
Enhancing Advocacy Through Nursing Interventions For Hospitalized Pediatric Oncology Patients With Absent Parents, Ma Seandee Mae Corrales
Nursing | Student Research Posters
Pediatric oncology patients require consistent, specialized care that is strongly supported by parental advocacy. Advocacy is critical for ensuring timely interventions, articulating the child’s needs, and providing emotional support during hospitalization. However, some pediatric patients face gaps in advocacy when parents are unable to be consistently present due to unavoidable obligations, such as work commitments or caregiving responsibilities for other children. This lack of consistent parental presence can impact the quality of care, potentially causing delays in treatment and unmet health needs (Brady et al., 2020).
Nurses are uniquely positioned to bridge these gaps by stepping in as advocates to …

How The Lockdown Of Covid-19 Influenced The Neurocognitive And Psychosocial Development Of Preschoolers, Kay Picson
How The Lockdown Of Covid-19 Influenced The Neurocognitive And Psychosocial Development Of Preschoolers, Kay Picson
Nursing | Student Research Posters
The COVID-19 pandemic instilled a new normal across the world. Businesses turned to take out services and faced financial struggle. Hospitals enacted a visitor policy, limiting contact with patients, their families, and their friends. Schools closed their classrooms and moved to online learning from home, isolating children from their teachers, peers, and an optimal learning environment.
The literature review consists of six articles pertaining to the influence of the COVID-19 lockdown on preschoolers neurocognitive and psychosocial development. Specifically, the influence of the lockdown on preschooler mental health, executive function, and social skills. According to the research, the results were differential, …
Effects Of Educational Intervention On Asthmatic Children, Zoe Coggins
Effects Of Educational Intervention On Asthmatic Children, Zoe Coggins
Nursing | Student Research Posters
Abstract
Children are more vulnerable to asthmatic symptoms due to the physiological immaturity of their respiratory systems. Therefore, irritants are deemed more hazardous for the pediatric population. Pollution is a growing health concern, and within the literature review, several approaches to the measurement of the impact of low air quality and educational interventions are discussed. The themes identified in the literature review are increased risk of pollution-induced exacerbation due to age, behavior, and residential proximity to emission-producing facilities. The review of the literature demonstrated how pollution is a growing public health concern, especially among the pediatric population. Interventions, reviewed in …
The Severity Of Obstructing Tubulopathy Is Often Associated With Foci Of Renal Tubular Obstruction, Ping L. Zhang, Hassan D. Kanaan, Wei Li

Etiologies of renal failure due to renal tubular injury may result from either ischemic/toxic injury of proximal tubules (ATN), variants of interstitial nephritis or obstructing tubulopathy by the luminal blocking of either monoclonal casts, uric acid or calcified deposits. Our previous studies indicate that the polarizable semi-transparent calcium oxalate deposits block proximal tubules, whereas monoclonal casts, uric acid deposits and bluish calcium phosphates block the distal tubules. We hypothesized that the serum creatinine (SCr) levels and the number of tubular obstructing deposits were correlated so that pathologic identification of obstructing foci can be predictable for the extent of renal dysfunction.

Immuno-check point inhibitors (CPI) such as PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors have been used to treat a variety of metastatic carcinoma with positive effects. However, there are complications such as gastrointestinal, hepatic and endocrine symptoms and kidney dysfunction. We describe our experience with CPI-associated acute interstitial nephritis (AIN).

Immune dysregulation, polyendocrinopathy, enteropathy, X-linked (IPEX) syndrome is a rare inborn error of immunity. It affects about one in every 1.6 million people. It is caused by mutations in the forkhead box P3 (FOXP3) gene on chromosome Xp11.23. FOXP3 is a vital regulator of T cell development and function. Dysfunctional FOXP3 allows the hyperactivation of T cells, resulting in skin rash, enteropathy, diabetes, thyroiditis, hemolytic anemia, and thrombocytopenia. The classic clinical presentation is intractable diarrhea, growth problems, dermatitis, and autoimmune endocrinopathy. Case Description: A 4-week-old male was transferred to our hospital’s NICU due to respiratory distress and feeding difficulties. Neurology …

10-year-old morbidly obese male with cirrhotic ESLD secondary to vertically transmitted Hepatitis C presented for liver transplantation and concomitant vertical sleeve gastrectomy. Other history included moderate persistent asthma, OSA, and presumed HPS with baseline SpO2 of 94%. Induction was smooth; intubation with an armored ETT was easy. During invasive monitor placement, bronchospasm worsened SpO2. Continuous albuterol nebulization provided reasonable reversal, and all stakeholders agreed to proceed. Postoperative course was complicated by status asthmaticus and dramatic extubation on POD3 when patient bit and kinked armored ETT. To date, patient has good graft function and a 16% reduction from his peak BMI.

Elevated Tryptase Level Identifies A Case Of Hereditary Alpha Tryptasemia, Ali H. Alnajim, Salman Aljubran

Introduction Hereditary alpha tryptasemia (HaT) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by elevated serum tryptase levels due to duplication or triplication of the TPSAB1 gene. Affecting 6 to 8 percent of the population, HaT presents with diverse symptoms, including idiopathic anaphylaxis, skin rashes, and gastrointestinal issues. This report highlights a case that underscores the complexities and diagnostic challenges of HaT. Case Description A 4-year-old male presented with recurrent skin rashes and gastrointestinal symptoms following ingestion of certain foods, despite negative allergy tests. Persistent symptoms led to further investigations, revealing elevated tryptase levels of 10.3 ng/ml, 12.1 ng/ml, and 8.3 ng/ml …
