Despite claims by ZYN, the leading nicotine pouch brand, that it does not partner with social media influencers, influencers with large followings continue to post content depicting nicotine pouch use. Prior research suggests oral lesions are among the most commonly reported adverse events associated with nicotine pouch use; however, public discussions of these outcomes on social media remain understudied. This study examined public discourse surrounding nicotine pouch use and oral health in response to an Instagram post by a popular influencer. Background: Autistic children have unique dental healthcare needs. Oral complications stemming from poor tongue and motor coordination, high sensitivity to toothpaste and flossing, and sensory reactions to fluoride, amalgam, and other dental products are common. Autistic youth are also prone to dental-related emotional (e.g., dental fear and anxiety) and behavioral (e.g., noncompliance, disruptive behavior, avoidance) symptoms. There is also a substantial gap in pediatric and autism-focused training for dental providers, and caregivers report significant challenges in finding dental practitioners who treat autistic children. My doctoral capstone was completed with Hope Therapy Center (HTC), a pediatric clinic in Da Nang, Vietnam that is part of a Christian-based nonprofit organization providing free therapy services to children with disabilities and their families. This project focused on the ACOTE areas of education and leadership. It was informed by a previous experience at HTC where I observed a need for additional staff education, caregiver support, and sustainable occupational therapy resources. Adolescent sexual health remains a significant public health concern in rural Kenya because of the limited access to comprehensive sexuality education; therefore, contributing to high rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV, unintended pregnancy, and gender-based violence. This quality improvement project evaluated the implementation of the Game On for Safe Choices, a culturally responsive, game-based sexual health education intervention designed to improve adolescents' sexual health knowledge and confidence. Diabetes mellitus and food insecurity contribute to poor health outcomes among underserved adults participating in the Healthy Food Rx program at the Stockton Emergency Food Bank in South Stockton, California. Limited access to culturally relevant diabetes education and ongoing self-management resources may hinder effective diabetes management among food-insecure adults. This quality improvement project evaluated a four-week culturally responsive diabetes education program consisting of weekly education sessions, hands-on blood pressure and blood glucose monitoring, and a QR code-enabled Linktree resource platform. Inpatient falls are a major patient safety concern, particularly in orthopedic units where mobility limitations, comorbidities, and postoperative factors elevate risk and contribute to preventable injury, longer hospital stays, and increased costs. At Sutter Medical Center Sacramento’s orthopedic unit, an annual rate of 16 falls and persistent gaps in patient and staff education highlight the need for a targeted quality improvement initiative despite use of an EPIC predictive fall-risk model. Background: The median raphe cyst is a rare, benign, congenital condition characterized by small, fluid-filled cysts that develop along the ventral midline of male external genitalia. These cysts are usually asymptomatic during infancy and childhood but tend to grow in size as the patient grows. These can become cosmetically concerning or symptomatic due to swelling, irritation, and discomfort. They may also present social and psychological stress to patients and families. Background: Cellulitis is a common skin infection that classically presents with unilateral lower extremity erythema, swelling, and pain. The diagnosis is made clinically. Many conditions may mimic cellulitis that are collectively referred to as “pseudocellulitis.” These include stasis dermatitis, deep vein thrombosis, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and gout. The Alt-70 model is a validated clinical prediction tool for differentiating cellulitis from pseudocellulitis. It is unclear if it is utilized or if it has changed clinical practice in the emergency department setting.

Introduction Elliptical excisions are the most common method to treat benign and malignant tumors in dermatologic surgery. This standardized design is traditionally 3 to 4.5 times longer than the excisional width to prevent unsightly protrusions of skin after primary closure, known as “standing cone,” “Burow’s triangles” or “dog ear” deformities. This results in a scar significantly longer than the original tumor that may be less easily concealed.

Objective To compare the final repair length of a tissue conservative method to remove skin tumors and close resultant defects against predicted repair length of traditional elliptical excision.

Background: Inpatient dermatology is an important yet evolving field. There has been a linear decrease in the number of dermatologists providing inpatient care and in the number of medical centers with an inpatient dermatology service. Medical centers with inpatient dermatology services are unevenly distributed geographically, with most in larger metropolitan areas. There is still a great need for dermatologic expertise in the inpatient setting. The project aligned with the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) focus areas of Leadership, Education, and Advocacy through the development of a Resource Toolkit to support caregivers, clients, and rehabilitation specialists during hospitalization and discharge planning.Through discussions with stakeholders regarding social determinants of health and occupational justice, a need for improved access to community resources was identified. The goal of this capstone project was to create a simulated traffic stop event for neurodiverse drivers to decrease anxieties and promote positive interactions with local law enforcement. This project was completed under the ACOTE standards of project development and clinical skills, and in collaboration with the University of Kentucky Driving Rehabilitation Program and a Certified Driving Rehabilitation Specialist. Previous simulated traffic stops have been completed specifically for the ASD population and showed improvements in anxiety and understanding of traffic stops.
