A new nurse leader often enters their role with minimal training. The absence of a structured orientation leaves new leaders without the advanced knowledge and skills needed to succeed in this complex role, increasing the risk of stress and burnout. This staff education project addressed whether providing the educational framework found within the American Organization for Nurse Leaders (AONL) nurse manager competencies would improve nurses’ knowledge to lead departmental operations and personnel for the new nurse leader. Duchscher’s stages of transition theory focused on the emotional aspects of transitioning into a new role. The AONL Nurse Leader Competency Assessment Tool: …

AbstractTraditional psychotherapeutic approaches are not always effective in alleviating psychological symptoms and improving functioning in young adults. Equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP) has been shown as a beneficial alternative therapeutic method developed for clients not helped by traditional methods. However, the essence of the therapeutic relationship that develops between the client, horse, therapist, and equine specialist has not been explored. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the lived experience of the therapeutic relationship in young adults who participated in EAP. The frameworks of person-centered theory and self psychology guided the development of interview questions, data analysis, and interpretation. Four …

Lived Experiences Of Stress And Burnout Among Pediatric Home Care Nurses, Johane Garcon-Paul

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Abstract

Research shows that healthcare providers encounter stress in their workplaces whether in a home or a healthcare facility that results in reduced job satisfaction, burnout, and inadequate care of patients. There is a gap in the literature regarding the lived experiences of nurses caring for children in all work settings, including the home care setting, regarding stress and burnout. The lived experiences of pediatric nurses working in home care settings were explored to discover conditions that contribute to their occupational stress and burnout. The occupational stress model with a major focus on the job demands-resources occupational stress model was …
